PENTECOST SUNDAY

French Artist

Jean RESTOUT (1692-1768) painted this 15' high by 25' wide oil painting of his 1732 rendition of Pentecost. The 'La Pentecote' is displayed in the LOUVRE MUSEUM in Paris, France.

Five years ago, one of our sons was married to a young lady from Belarus. On our return to the United States, we detoured to France and stayed a few days. On a visit to the Louvre, we viewed this painting.

It is outstanding. Full of vibrant color. The size of the painting is larger than life...kinda like the Holy Spirit! Larger than normal life, full of regenerating power. The kind that gives you everlasting LIFE and cleans out the cobwebs of your mind.

The Pentecost can be read about in the Holy Bible when the Holy Spirit fell on the people staying in the Upper Room waiting for the gift God promised to them. They'd be receiving power when the Holy Spirit came on them during a baptism with the Holy Spirit so they'd have power as witnesses.

ACTS 2:1-4

1) When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.

2) Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.

3) They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.

4) All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.

As we remember Pentecost, may you be all that you are meant to be.

Tea On Thursday

With all that's going on in the world, I'm so glad you stopped by. Can you stay for awhile and visit with me as if we've known each other all our lives?
Have you ever met someone like that...that seems like you've known them forever? Especially like the ones that are so easy to talk to and you know that they will listen and not be quick to judge.

The sweetness of this kind of friendship is a God send.

This week the rains fell and the temperature turned off cooler than I like, but not too cool to where a hot beverage didn't help warm us up.

This contemporary cup and saucer is more for coffee than tea, unless you're at A Greasy Spoon Cafe and then you'd be glad to have this style for a warm cup of tea no matter what. Even though it's porcelain, it's a heavier cup than the delicate dishes that I believe official Tea Drinkers would be comfortable using for the much loved Tea ritual.

But in a pinch this cup would do. It's clean and close at hand.

They were quite a find at the After Christmas Sale marked down prices...$12.oo for a complete table setting of four. They're white, easy on the eye and pocketbook. With the dishes being a neutral white, they go with any color theme and are a pleasant enough shape that they're a fun addition to our Haven!

If you were in my neck of the woods today, we'd take time to chat and sip either coffee or tea. The choice would be yours! I'd love to hear how your week has gone and what you've got planned for the week-end. It may be boring to keep hearing me say...I need to get the house tidied, but it's true. I need to get get the house tidied. How 'bout you?

Blue Willow China

My Love Affair with Blue Willow China didn't happen all at once.

Has this ever happened to you ?
You're not overly fond of something or someone and then you have more activity with them and realize, that it or them is growing on you?

We ate at a Abilene, Kansas Restaurant that serves it's Family Style meals on these dishes. The restaurant's atmosphere is stellar with their delicious food being served on and in these dishes. Why even the coffee tasted better in this charming environment.

After reading about the love story behind the design, the design starting growing on me. If you look at a Blue Willow plate, you'll see the elements of the story: the mandarin's palace, the bridge, the lovers running across to safety, the distant isle on which they settled, and two love doves flying free in the sky.

There are some variations on the story.

Here's one version:
Chinese legend has it as a romance between Koong-se/Knoon-shee, a beautiful daughter of a wealthy mandarin, and Chang, his lowly secretary/accountant. Koong-se's father had promised her in marriage to a powerful and noble Duke. To keep Koong-se and Chang a part, the father erected a fence so they couldn't see each other.

As a wedding dowry for Koong-se, the Duke brought a box of jewels. A disguised Chang crept into the palace during the wedding banquet and eloped with Koong-se carrying the jewels across the bridge. The lovers found a hideout on a distant island.

Time didn't stop the Duke and the mandarin's search for the lovers. According to the legend the lovers were killed while sleeping in a little house that was burned down. God was so touched by their love that he immortilized Chang and Koong-se as two flying doves.


In 1780 Englishman Thomas Minton engraved the design and sold it to the manager of Shropshire Pottery, Thomas Turner, where it was mass-produced and eventually became the most popular china pattern in the world.

Blue Willow has been imitated by Spode, Royal Worcester, Wedgewood, Davenport, and Leeds and Swansea. For two centuries the Blue Willow pattern has been in the repertoire of nearly every British china and porcelain maker.

My treasured Blue Willow dishes with the cobalt blue design were purchased at the recent City Wide Garage Sale and I was treated to these two pieces for $5.00. I like them alot! Such fun to find these dishes to place in my haven.

Memorial Day formerly known as Decoration Day is a United States Federal Holiday observed on the last Monday of May. It commerorates United States men and women who died while in the Military Services.

First enacted to honor Union Soldiers of the American Civil War. It was expanded after World War I to include American casualties of any war or military action.

Beloved, we are still blessed to live in this country with the liberties we have. So many have died in action to defend our American rights. Died.
When I was a young girl, my cousin Bobby went to Vietnam to serve his country. He left behind a pregnant wife. This was in the day when there wasn't email. He was killed in action MAY 23rd, 1969, 40 years ago this very day. When Bobby returned home in a flag draped box, he hadn't heard his son's cries or changed a diaper. His skin was seriously sunburned and he still had a military haircut. When Life Magazine published their 1969 issue of one week's deaths, Bobby was the last picture on the page.

With respect and honor, I think of those that have died while in military action and know that it shouldn't be taken lightly.

God Bless their Families and all of those in our Military.

Tea On Thursday

Blessings to you today from HomeHaven nestled in the Kansas Flinthills.

Cup of Tea?

I'll provide the cup and saucer if you'll share the tea suggestions...

I wish I was at a tea party right now.

This week's tea will be served in a more contemporary cup and saucer set given to me as a Christmas gift from my eldest son and wife.

The set's decoration has a color theme of tan background with blue and pink blossoms on green stems with leaves. The cup's interior is white. Markings are Design Pac Inc made in China. The cup's height measurement is

2 and 3/8th inch deep.

I suppose this style of cup has a specific name, but I'm not familiar with it. Any clues?

My camera doesn't have a lense that will zoom in to where the pictures are crystal clear, so the pics are on the fuzzy side.

Hope we all can take some time to relax and think on good things that puts us at ease with smiles on our faces.

Marital Bliss

Serving invited guest

white cake with buttercream frosting, nuts, mints, coffee and punch at a formal reception following a important ceremony or gathering is a kind way to say "Thank you" for being here today to celebrate with us this important event. We're so blessed to have you in our lives. You're valuable to us and we love you.




Looks like alot of frosting to eat. The cake in these pictures still looks good enough to eat, but I assure you that it would be hard as a rock. The cake is petrified. Close to ten years ago, this cake was served at my 25th Wedding Anniversary. These pictures of the cake were taken Sunday, May 17, 2009.

Lord willing we will celebrate 35 years of marriage in August. 35 years! I still have a piece of our wedding cake stored in a tin box. It isn't nearly as pretty as these pieces of 10 year old cake, but that's okay. I'm not sure who started the tradition of saving some wedding cake to eat on the one year anniversary of one's wedding. Simply freeze some slices of cake and thaw out the day before your anniversary.

As for these anniversary slices, I didn't do anything special to petrify them. Just let them dry out in a dark cabinet. I'm not sure how long I will keep these. The pictures look pretty good for a keep sake as the cake is starting to fall apart.

I don't have any newly baked cake to serve you, but if I did I'd share it with you and tell you that I value our blogworld friendship and Thank you for stopping by.

Wooden Rolling Pins And So Much More

Wooden Rolling Pins seem to add warmth to the Kitchen Atmosphere no matter where you live. No matter what size or style the food preparation room is, we need tools to help make our cooking/baking experience a joy.

The largest of my wooden rolling pins was a thrift buy special at $3.50. I delighted in this find! Wow, I thought it was so pretty. It's about 3" in diameter of solid hard wood.

While my little kitchen is under construction and I'm not sure when it will be completed, I like displaying these pins to help encourage me that a revamped kitchen will be birthed very soon.

It's not the first house that I've lived in and had to wait a very long time for a remodeled kitchen to appear. The waiting and the working in amongst the mess can frey your nerves. I think it's very important to have order in the home, but when a room is under construction it may seem like this will never be a reality. Be of good cheer and praise the Lord. To substain good mental health while all of this is going on...think on good and pleasant things. See in your mind a finished kitchen, praise God for kitchens, and know that this project will come to fruition. One day soon, you will stand in the kitchen and be able to say, "IT IS FINISHED and I helped!"

I'm writing this word of encouragement because I NEEDS IT, I DO!!! If you can find it in your heart, please lift ole Deanna and her hubby up in prayer that this project quickly come to pass. God Bless you.

Secrets to taking care of wooden rolling pins are:

Don't leave the pin too long in water.

Dishwashers not recommended.

Immediately after use, handwash pin in hot sudsy water, rinse well, dry with towel before storing.

If there is dried-on food particles, use a plastic scouring pad to work food off, rinse and dry.

If concerned about pin cracking from excessive heat, condition pin with food safe oil such as salad oil or mineral oil.

Solid wood rolling pins are such a nice tool to have around. They're handy and make an attractive decorating statement even if you don't use them very often. I should know!

With this $3.50 rolling pin...Home just got a little easier to make into a Haven.

Tea On Thursday

Hello from Home Haven nestled in the Kansas Flint Hills!
It's time for Tea On Thursday...already. Hurray that Thursday is here. This little Tea Pot that rest on a small cup was one of my thrifty buys from The Salvation Army for only one dollar. What a bargain. On the bottom of the tea pot and cup are no special markings. Just a made in China sticker. Wouldn't you know.

I was so glad to give this little set a new place to reside at Home Haven. Perhaps you have a tea pot that rest on top of a cup. Do you know if this particular arrangement has a specific name to it or if this is just a cutesy thing? A novelty item?

What type of tea would you suggest, if any, I should sip on to help me with being less crabby as a peri-menopausal momma???

Recipe From Kitchen of Laura Ingalls Wilder
Gingerbread~serves 20

Cream 1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup molasses
add 1 cup boiling water with 2 tsp. soda (allow run off into bowl and refill 1 cup)
add 3 cups flour sifted with 1 tsp. of each: ginger, cinnamon, cloves, all spice and nutmeg
Beat 2 eggs well, add last.
Bake @350 degrees for 30 minutes in 9"x13" greased pan

If we were to write out our stories, some of us would be able to identify with the Ingall's Family.
Some of us wouldn't have any similarities. All in all, we all have started out somewhere and are living our lives. What if you could take three months off from your present life and were allowed to live in a rough cabin just like this one and live as a pioneer...would you?

I would. I'd love the challenge. I'm sure you'd hear me singing,

And the deer and the antelope play.
Where seldom is heard, a discouraging word,

This is the day the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it!

This is a picture of one of the cup and saucers that I am honored to have. It belonged to my Mother. A few years ago when she and Dad downsized to move from their house into an apartment, I was blessed to receive this from their estate. Mom collected cups and saucers.

So did her Mother.

Wanted to share with you this pretty cup and saucer and maybe, just maybe you'd share with me some tips on making a fine cup of tea or coffee. I'd love to hear your suggestions.

BLESSED ASSURANCE

Beloved,
There's no time like the presence to think about assurance of being Heaven bound when Jesus is truly one's personal Savior.

Many people are in works bondage about maintaining their salvation once they have accepted Christ as their Messiah/Savior. While on Earth, they may never rest in their walk with God and know that their rightful place is in HIM and there can be PEACE. Jesus did the work for us. He said IT IS FINISHED as he died on the cross. He is the Lamb of God that finished the work of making it possible to have a rightful relationship with Father God AND to be filled with God's HOLY SPIRIT. Jesus is the one that completed the work. Not us.

Some believe that Jesus is their Lord, but have no assurance that they are going to spend an eternity in Heaven in God's presence because they believe that they haven't been good enough, done enough works to earn their rightful place. In other words they don't know and believe that because Jesus is their personal Savior that they are now an heir to Salvation. A sure thing.

It's not by works that we earn salvation...
Jesus did the work, not us.

Assurance is CERTAINTY, CONFIDENCE.

3. something said or done to inspire confidence, as a promise, positive statement;

Marriage Compliment

Beloved,
If you are married, do you compliment your spouse in ways that no one else can?
Almost daily I know that my husband and I compliment one another.

He is challenged with having ringing in his ears which makes it difficult to hear as well as he would like.

I have had allergy and sinus problems for years which makes it difficult to breathe as well as I would like.

So there you have it, we compliment one another daily. I usually hear things before he does and he usually smells before me...
ha ha ha.

There was an old man standing on the corner waiting for the traffic light to change to green so he could cross the street. A beautiful dog was sitting by his feet.

Another man walked up and stood by the old man waiting for the light to change.
He couldn't help but notice the beautiful dog. Looked like a show dog.
He asked the elderly gentleman, "does your dog bite?"

The old man gently said, " no."

The man reached down to pat the beautiful dog on the head.
As he did this, the dog growled and bit the man's hand.
In pain, the man pulled back his hand and said, "I thought you said your dog doesn't bite!!!"

The elderly man said, "that is not MY dog."

Daughter's Pie Crust Recipe

Beloved,
This is simply a delicious recipe for a very flaky pie crust that will just about melt in your mouth. My daughter gave permission to print the secret recipe. THANK YOU! and God Bless.

Pie Crust:

1 cup flour
3 heaping tablespoons of shortening
a dash of salt
a tiny bit of ice cold water

Mix it together
and roll out on wax paper.
Assemble pie and before baking, spread a small amount of milk on the top of the pie
crust dough.

Put Some Spice Into Your Marriage

Beloved, My good friend Webster's New World DICTIONARY
of the American Language helps me out almost every day. This book has almost spoiled me when it comes to spelling and definitions.

I didn't want to believe it, but it has happened to me. Sometimes when I write out a word, I'll look at it and the spelling doesn't look quite correct. So out comes the dictionary. This is funny, because the word isn't always spelled the way I think it should be so when I'm hunting for it in the Dictionary it becomes a game of seek and seek.

Since typing on the computer, I'll check my spelling on the internet and ease my mind.

Webster helped me to define spice:
spice 3. that which adds zest, piquancy, or interest.

Okayyyyyyy. Here we go. Put some spice into your marriage. My husband is my best friend and sometimes we go shopping together to the grocery store. To put actual spice into our marriage doesn't mean a trip to the store to buy spices. This could be interesting to see the two of us shopping with zest, but this isn't what I'm meaning.

When we were younger and seldom got out of the house together on a date to keep the home fires burning, I had to come up with something special for one of our Wedding Anniversaries. I wanted to add some spice to our celebration. We had a baby sitter for our children as we went out for the evening. A nice movie then onto a pleasant meal at a restaurant where we'd be waited on hand and foot. Dancing to end the evening before returning home.

I'm a natural blonde, so I thought I'd rent a black wig, don a pair of dark sunglasses and slip into a different dress. I'd excuss myself from the dinner table, go to the ladies room and change into a different dress. I had all this stuff in my handbag. Come back to the table and surprise my hubby of I don't recall how many years at that time and sit down at his table and say nothing.

When I went to get into my giddy up, I felt like a criminal dressing in the stall. I was shaking so badly I could hardly put the wig on. Slipping on the different dress was fun as I was thinking what are the other Ladies in the restroom gonna think when I walk out of this stall wearing dark sunglasses in a already dark room, dark headed and completely wearing different threads? I'm not sure the darker shade of lipstick I put on was straight or not.

As I approached the table where my husband was waiting, I quietly sat down beside him. There were some odd looks that came our way. That wasn't the idea. My husband was very surprised as I sat there. I had a nice meal, nice conversation with my husband, danced the night away and added some spice for the occasion.

On the way home, I returned to 'ole blonde me as to not scare the baby sitter away and didn't even think about returning home in a different outfit. Oh well...
Had a great evening out playing Cinderella.

Please don't think me totally nuts. This was all in good fun. Compared to the Song of Solomon, my surprise for my husband was very mild and needed a whole lot more spice than what I had delivered. Wouldn't you say?
