NOT BAD FOR AN OLD MAN AND WOMAN nearing 70 years of age. We've been heave-hoing big pieces of furniture working at making our COTTAGE cozier and better fitting for us as we continue to get settled in. This has been a very long drawn out thing, but we're managing to get 'er done a little here and a little there.
On Tuesday, the very heavy and oversized wood headboard ventured out to the SHE SHED after Hubby scooted things around to where the bed would fit in the shed the direction I imagined it should go. We diligently disassembled the Victorian bed from the bedroom and took pieces one at time to the shed. First the headboard.
We managed to carry it through the small crowded house, out the door, down the porch steps onto a furniture roller and then scooted it across the bumpy yard to the shed. Into the shed she went being propped against the wall as we took a break so we wouldn't break.
Next were the two side boards and last but not least, the footboard. Hubby assembled it and we waited to haul the mattress and box out til later. The mattress and box spent the night in the Living room propped up against the sofa until we could move them to the shed. Heavens these pieces are extremely HEAVY. We took Wednesday off so we wouldn't have to be outside moving large pieces of furniture in rain and went shopping as the weather dictated colder than comfortable.
On Thursday, the weather was pleasant enough to be outside so we heaved-hoed by moving the mattress and box springs. No kidding they are extremely heavy. We did it and getting these pieces into the bed frame took some more thought as we had to lift them to insert them into the wooden victorian bed frame.
Not much space around the bed to work in. At one point Hubby was under the bed on the floor and I had to tilt the box springs off the slats to where he could crawl out from under the bed through the slats. We managed and were the better for it. Took a break so we would not break ourselves. Next went the Victorian Gentlemen's Dresser base. This wasn't so difficult. Made fast work out of it.
The bed is set up in the shed. Now we work on taking the Gentlemen's Dresser mirror out to be attached to the base of the dresser. Hopefully we will do this today after it warms up some. Right now it's about 16 degrees outside. While it's warming up, we'll shuffle the Living room Buffet to the new TV room and place the big screen television on top of it. Hubby will hook up the TV. I'll refill the buffet with Depression glass that was in it.
The mirror and Settee went out to the shed later in the day. RELIEVED the large mirror is in one piece sitting pretty on the base of the dresser not damaged.
I will start clearing the Dining room table off and work at getting the Dining room completely cleaned up so we are once again civilized people. Heave-HO.
Wished Santa's Elves would assist us with this moving furniture as we are nearing 70 years of age and doing this THANG with a prayer. I suppose, we could have hired some help. Next time, I believe if there is a next time, we will have to do so. Family members are too far away to help.
When we get the Victorian furniture completely in the SHE SHED and the TV room set up, I will be beyond relieved. This is a CHRISTMAS GIFT to us as we are living in the COTTAGE making HOME a better fit for us as we age into older peeps working at taking care of ourselves the best we know how.
UPDATE: WE DID IT! Heave-HO. We did it! We did it! PRAISE THE LORD!!! We have a Victorian Bedroom in the SHE SHED. We have a TV room in the small bedroom AND the Living room is less crowded. This one I really like. This is such a great feeling before CHRISTMAS.
THINGS WE MOVED. Victorian tall headboard, 2 side boards, footboard, mattress, box springs, Gentleman's dresser with huge mirror, antique settee all removed from house to she-shed after space was rearranged to where furniture would go. Antique Buffet, large screen television, sound bar, two recliners into new TV ROOM. Boxes, lots of Nic-nacs paddy whack give a dog a bone stuff. Framed pictures and photographs. Odds and ins. Quilts and bedding. Artwork, dishes and craft supplies. ETC.
We have yet to get the Dining room put back in place as we pace ourselves. This will be a full day of cleaning and tidying in order to be ready for Hubby's 70th Birthday supper on Sunday. Fixing a American POT ROAST MEAL with potatoes, carrots and onions. Small Dinner Salad, Hawaiian Rolls with grass fed butter, Corn and Italian Green Beans. German Chocolate Cupcakes and French Vanilla Bean Ice Cream. Sounds like an International meal for my English Husband turning 70.
My old muscles are screaming some as I have been more physically active than usual. Still cleaning. I decided to forgo the big CHRISTMAS TREE this year. A Eastlake Parlour Table will be placed where the buffet was that held the tv in front of the bay window and I'll put a tiny tree on it with twinkle lights and narrow ribbon. Enough for us.
CHRISTMAS is fast approaching. Praise the LORD! We're nearly ready. Come Monday, I so pray that we can rest knowing that the laborious movement of shuffling rooms and downsizing are at a great place for us, the Mister and Misses in Retirement COTTAGE.
Tis the first day of WINTER and we are so pleased to have the rooms set up like we need them cozy in our COTTAGE.
