OUR PLANS CHANGED FOR THE DAY WHICH MEANT WE WENT TO SEE THE CHRISTMAS LIGHTS AT POTWIN PLACE after 9 when we finished serious shopping for the week-end Birthday party a day earlier then planned.
With the weather being colder than expected, we changed our plans when we would be moving furniture to the SHE SHED. We put it off and went shopping instead. Flipped the days.
A FUNNY. As I was driving through TOPEKA traffic, I asked my HUBBY what does TOPEKA mean? What is the meaning of TOPEKA??? He looked it up as he is the researcher when I'm driving the car. He said to the OSAGE INDIAN, it means A GOOD PLACE TO DIG POTATOES. I laughed. You've got to be kidding. POTATOES!
The name "Topeka" is a Kansa-Osage word that means "place where we dig potatoes", or "a good place to dig potatoes"
I am a Kansas Native and did not know this about what the name TOPEKA means. A big laugh. At 69 years of age, I now know what TOPEKA means. 69 mind you. 69. When I was about a third grader, we did an intense study about our state and I don't recall it ever being mentioned about POTATOES or I would have remembered.
DIGGING UP POTATOES. A good place, mind you. Doesn't sound very romantic or eloquent. Nothing like Land of Dreams. Heaven on Earth. Land of the many Deer. Over the rainbow prosperity. Big sky small river.
Potatoes? A good place to dig potatoes? Shaking my head. Come to think of it, it's very practical. PRACTICAL. Alrighty then. Moving right along. Good thing I LOVE potatoes. yum.
HUBBY had a very full day before he came and got me to go see Christmas lights in Topeka. He did a lot of driving. He got his hair cut, paid a Bank visit and brought me HOME a Starbucks GREEN Tea. We went to FLORENCE ADAMS in St. Marys to view the gorgeous Christmas tree they have in their store that our grand told us about.
MY TREAT FOR THE DAY. ONTO GOD'S STOREHOUSE. Due to road work we had to take the long way to GOD's STOREHOUSE where I spied a VICTORIAN TILTING WATER PITCHER. No stand with it, but thought I had to have it anyways since it is probably a 1880s VICTORIAN piece with beautiful engraved designs on it.
It doesn't have the stand that was originally attached to the pitcher, but I knew if I didn't purchase this lovely water pitcher, it would haunt me with the I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THAT...I should have bought that...I should have bought that. So I bought it.
After leaving GSH, we went to SAMS and then WALMART. Munched down a SAMS hot dog before shopping for Birthday meal items. After we shopped, we went to POTWIN PLACE and admired the gorgeous lights in the Historical Houses District.
Not sure how many years we have been at this HALLMARK LIKE MOVIE VILLAGE where we drive the neighborhood looking at the houses that are decorated for the season all a glow with different hues of colored lights.
2024 CHRISTMAS THEME FOR POTWIN PLACE IS SANTA'S VILLAGE.
One day closer to CHRISTMAS. Christmas LIGHTS, Christmas MOVIES, Christmas decorating, Christmas songs, Christmas shopping, Christmas cards, Christmas parties, Christmas Programs, CHRISTMAS SERVICES seem to be a big part of the month in DECEMBER.
I tell myself, Please do not forget the reason for the season, which is JESUS. To us a child is given. The earthly birth of our SAVIOUR REMEMBERED AND CELEBRATED. The one that is the key to eternal life, a rightful place with GOD with abundant living. OUR precious Jesus who gives meaning to life.
