Oh BUSHONG It!!!!

1888 Doc Bushong

Oh my....Bushong is a real place!  Had to look this one up on Wikipedia.  Interesting history.  This tiny spot on the map was named after a baseball player.  2010 Census stated about 34 people lived there.  There were 34 people, 12 households, and 10 families residing in the city.
I wonder if a person wanted to get away from it all, if this might be a place to live???

The city, originally a whistle-stop of the Missouri Pacific Railroad, was first named Weeks. The city took its present name in 1886 in honor of St. Louis Browns catcher Albert J. "Doc" Bushong. Following the Browns' victory in the 1886 World Series over the Chicago White Stockings, the Missouri Pacific Railroad honored several of the St. Louis players by naming some of their depots after the players. Bushong had played every game in the series and was at bat in Game Six, when the winning run scored by stealing home. The city of Bushong is the only one still carrying its name from the 1886 World Series.[8]
During the Cold War, Bushong was the location of one of the first generations of nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles. The site, active from 1961–1965, was part of the 548th Strategic Missile Squadron.[9]

So I don't think this is the place to get away from it all when they've already had a nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missile!!!

I'm a KANSAS NATIVE that has lived in Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Texas.  At 64 years of age I had no idea that A BUSHONG, KANSAS even existed until yesterday.  HA.  Long story short, I took a wrong turn and ended in the fine town of BUSHONG, KANSAS.  Didn't stay long as I was on my way to Emporia.

Also drove through AMERICUS, KANSAS.  I'd heard of it, but never BUSHONG.  It's embarrassing to say that I was going to EMPORIA by hook and crook of country roads AND got lost in the country.  Very scenic drive though.  Enjoyed the sights I saw.

EVENTUALLY
I made my destination without a proper map and a sense of humor.

I was meeting up with two of my siblings in Emporia to visit about our MOM.  She had a doctor's appointment and we thought we'd group together and get on the same page with one another about Mom's future wishes.  I not only got to see some of the Kansas sights, but I got to see my Mom, a brother and a sister.

We visited as siblings getting informed about Mom's wishes, had Lunch at KFChicken and then chatted with our Mom about her wishes.  Did a little shopping at the DOLLAR TREE then drove HOME without a glitch.

The weather was turning off COLD expecting midnight SNOW.  As of this morning we have not had this snow.  JUST COLD.

Hubby was HOME fixing Goulash.  Twas delicious and so nice of him...and I fell asleep in my recliner exhausted from travel, family meeting and more travel.

At the end of the week I'll have some lab work done and finally see where my TSH levels are since lowering my medicine dose 6 weeks ago.  Will be good to know where it's at.  My energy level is slightly better so I think my TSH numbers are at a better level for me.  Good guess.  When TSH levels are so suppressed it became difficult to walk, talk and make sense....it's like walking through molasses when up and about.  Physical signs begin to manifest elsewhere in one's body such as joint pain and aches unknown to mankind.

The backs of my feet/heels have felt like they were bruised.  It's been unusually painful making simple walking very difficult to endure.  Since the middle of the month of AUGUST I have battled with this PAIN.

Later it would be revealed to me that I have an extremely suppressed TSH level with a extremely low Vitamin D level.  My HEALTH WALK continues.  Take better vitamins and rest until levels rise.  Active mental activity with planning and slow as she goes movement, but movement.  Slow stretches.

JEEPERS! Mister Wilson, this is exhausting keeping up with all of this stuff.

SIMPLIFICATION is the name of the game.
God bless,
d

HAY DIET

Researching FOOD Plans.
Latest is the HAY DIET.

Not this kind of hay, but a 1904s diet
by Dr. William Howard Hay.
He was into food combinations.

It worked for him and a multitude of his patients after he was stricken with serious health issues such as heart failure, high blood pressure, Bright's Disease.

The Hay diet meal plan is based on the categories of Proteins, Starches, and Neutral Foods. Proteins and Neutral Foods may be combined, and Neutral Foods may be combined with Starches. The combination of Proteins and Starches should be avoided.

Information gathered is lengthy, but believe this will help me prep for this change in eating habits.  I PLAN on doing this PLAN.  I have a 30 day menu of his that I'll post later.  For now I'm reading up on this and making PLANS.....

The Hay diet menus for the summer included the following meal recommendations:
  • A Friday plan began with a
  • Breakfast of orange juice and milk.
  • Lunch was tomato bullion, a baked onion, a tomato-and-cucumber salad with mayonnaise dressing, and apricots for dessert.
  • Dinner was broiled fish or steak, steamed chicory, steamed carrots, and a salad of shredded cabbage, onions, and radishes. Mayonnaise dressing was allowed, and dessert consisted of lemon ice.

  • A Saturday plan started with a
  • Breakfast of wholewheat muffins, honey, butter, and black coffee.
  • Lunch was cream of carrot soup, steamed celery, and a salad of pineapples, pears, and grapes. Salad was served with mayonnaise dressing.
  • Dessert was lemon fluff.
  • Dinner was broiled lamb chops, steamed cauliflower, steamed kale, and a salad of grapefruit and sauerkraut with mayonnaise dressing. The dessert was fresh peaches with unsweetened cream.

Function
Hay created his meal plan to treat medical problems associated with obesity. He claimed that a change in eating habits rather than medication was beneficial in the treatment of conditions such as cardiac disease, kidney disease, and kidney disorders.
In contemporary times, the Hay diet is used as a weight-loss plan by the general public and people interested in alternative treatments. Advocates of natural health maintain that the plan reverses conditions such as arthritis, indigestion, constipation, and flatulence. The Hay diet is also regarded as a natural method for providing relief to people diagnosed with asthma and allergies.

The Hay diet meal plan is based on the categories of Proteins, Starches, and Neutral Foods. Proteins and Neutral Foods may be combined, and Neutral Foods may be combined with Starches. The combination of Proteins and Starches should be avoided.

Definition

The Hay diet is named for the New York physician who created a plan that prohibited the consumption of starches and proteins during the same meal. William Howard Hay began developing the food-combining diet in 1904 to treat himself for medical conditions including a dilated heart. He lost 50 (22.7 kilograms) pounds in approximately three months and recovered from the conditions.
When William Howard Hay (1866–1940) graduated from New York University Medical College in 1891, he practiced medicine and specialized in surgery. That changed 16 years later when his own medical troubles led him to research the connection between diet and health. Hay then weighed 225 pounds (102 kilograms) and had high blood pressure and Bright’s Disease, a kidney condition. Hay discovered that his heart was dilated while running to catch a train.
The dilated heart caused by weakened heart muscles meant that his blood could not pump efficiently. Hay knew from treating patients that his future did not “look overlong or very bright,” according to his 1929 book Health via Food. The title described Hay’s health theories, his condition, and treatment.
Hay diagnosed the causes of his conditions as the “very familiar trinity of troubles” that then ranked as the primary cause of death: the combination of high blood pressure, kidney disease, and dilated heart.
Hay wrote that his legs had swelled; and he slept seated because he was afraid he would drown in his fluids if he slept lying down. He wasn’t able to lose the weight through exercise and what he thought was a proper diet. Hay wrote that the dilated heart made his prospects were bleak. He knew from treating patients that there was no medical treatment for a dilated heart. He advised them to prepare for the “final hop-off” (death). With that diagnosis applied to himself, Hay looked at his life to evaluate his own situation. He described himself as a “strong man of splendid heredity,” so Hay looked at his eating habits.
Developing a new diet
Hay started his special diet by eliminating two meals and eating only vegetables for the third. He stopped drinking coffee, but continued to smoke cigarettes and drink alcohol. Hay wrote that his craving for coffee ended in two weeks. Several months later, he gave up smoking. By the third month, Hay weighed 175 pounds (79.4 kilograms).
Hay considered that a normal weight. He spent the next four years researching diet and exercise, examining those issues from the conventional and alternative perspectives. His research included studying the work of Ivan Petrovich Pavlov, the Russian physiologist known for his research involving dogs. Pavlov’s studies of the digestion process of dogs indicated that it took about two hours to digest starches and four hours to digest proteins. However, it could take 13 hours to digest a mixture of protein and starch.

Hay maintained that the solution was to eat proteins at one meal and carbohydrates at another. He classified fruits with acids. Hay labeled vegetables in the neutral category that could be consumed with either group. He also advocated the daily administration of an enema to cleanse the colon.
The Hay diet was credited with curing the doctor. He pointed out in Health via Food that the book was written 24 years after his bleak diagnosis. Hay said that after changing his eating habits that his blood pressure was lower, the swelling caused by fluid was gone, and he could run quickly and at a distance.
He gave up his traditional medical practice, surgery and administering drugs. He believed that his eating plan was more beneficial. Hay introduced his diet in 1911 and spent the rest of his life promoting it. He lectured in the United States and Canada and wrote books. The Medical Millenniumwas published in 1927, followed by Health via Food in 1929 and A New Health Era in 1939.
In addition to writing diet books, Hay used the diet to treats patients at sanatoriums. He worked as the medical director of the East Aurora Sun Diet and Health Sanatorium in New York state from 1927 through 1932. He then founded the Pocono Haven Sanatorium Hotel in Mount Pocono, Pa. He served as its director until he died in a traffic accident in 1940.
Hay’s eating plan was the forerunner of late 20th century food-combining diet including Stephen’s Twiggs’ Kensington Diet and Judy Mazel’s New Beverly Hills Diet.

Description

William Howard Hay evaluated health theories and weight-loss methods while developing his plan. When he concluded that proper food combination was the solution to improved health, he saw some benefits in Fletcherism. The slow-chewing method could aid in the digestion of incompatible foods in some cases, Hay wrote in Health via Food. Bread could be chewed into a liquid, but the process wasn’t effective with foods like cheese.
Exercise did not provide the answer, Hay said. He pointed out that farmers who were physically active were diagnosed with some of the same conditions that less sedentary people were. Hay concluded that the solution was a lifetime of his diet and a daily enema. Hay regarded the enema as vital to providing relief to the colon and eliminating the toxins produced by a poor diet. He pointed out that some patients were constipated for two weeks because of their poor eating habits.

The contemporary Hay diet

Contemporary versions of the Hay diet no longer recommend a daily enema. The eating plan still follows Hay’s classification of foods into three categories, along with the rules about how the foods are combined at mealtime. The diet consists primarily of fruits and vegetables, and dieters are advised to wait at least four hours before consuming a meal from an incompatible category.
Some versions of the Hay diet recommend eating small portions of proteins, starches, and fats. There is also an emphasis on eating whole-grain products and unprocessed starches. Some plans allow alcoholic beverages; others prohibit processed foods with ingredients such as refined sugar, margarine, and white flour.
The Hay diet meal plan is based on the categories of Proteins, Starches, and Neutral Foods. Proteins and Neutral Foods may be combined, and Neutral Foods may be combined with Starches. The combination of Proteins and Starches should be avoided.
The Protein category consists of:.
  • Meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and dairy products including milk, cheese, and yogurt. Milk should be avoided with meat, but combines well with fruit.
  • Beans including lentils, pinto beans, kidney beans, soy beans, garbanzo beans (chickpeas), haricot beans, and lima beans.
  • The majority of fruits. In this category are apples, apricots, berries, cherries, currants, gooseberries, grapefruit, grapes, guavas, kiwis, lemons, limes, lychees, mangoes, nectarines, oranges, passionfruit, pears pineapples, prunes, raspberries, strawberries, and tangerines. Melons are in this category but should be consumed separately.
  • Beverages allowed are red wine, white wine, and cider In the Neutral Foods category are:
  • All vegetables except those in the Starches category.
  • All nuts except peanuts.
  • Fats including butter, cream, egg yolks, and olive oil.
  • Beverages in this category are whisky and gin
    In the “Starches category” are:
  • Cereal, bread, rice, and products made from flour and whole-grains such as wheat, oats, corn, and barley.
  • Starchy vegetables such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and Jerusalem artichokes.
  • Sweet fruits such as raisins, dates, figs, sweet grapes, and ripe bananas. Extremely ripe fruit is not allowed because the sugar content is higher.
  • Beverages in this category are beer and ale.

Benefits

Hay wrote in Health via Food that he saw “the comeback of thousands of patients” who followed his regimen. The Hay diet features some nutritional principles endorsed by organizations including the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the American Dietetic Association, and the medical community. Their recommendations call for eating lean meat and poultry that is that is prepared by grilling and baking. Nutritional guidelines also advocate the consumption of a variety of fruits and vegetables.
Those recommendations are also found in the Hay diet. People who follow those recommendations and fill up on fruits and vegetables will lose weight. Those are low-calorie foods that are rich in fiber. Whole-grain products also contain fiber. Eating high-fiber food produces the sense of fullness more quickly than the consumption of foods with fat does.

WIKIPEDIA HAS THIS TO SAY ABOUT HIM:

William Howard Hay (December 14, 1866 - 1940) was an American physician and director of The East Aurora Sun and Diet Sanatorium. He is principally known for the 'Hay diet', a food-combining dietary system.

As a consequence of health issues, he changed his diet, discontinued coffee and stopped smoking.[2] His condition improved, he lost weight and his blood pressure fell. Over the next 4 years he developed a dietary system based on this experience.[2] The dietary system he developed involved fasting and promoted the idea that certain foods require an acid pH environment in digestion, and other foods require an alkaline pH environment, and that both cannot take place at the same time, in the same environment.

In 1921 he went to Buffalo and in 1927 he was appointed director of The East Aurora Sun and Diet Sanatorium.[3][4] where he developed the 'Sun-Diet Menus'. In this period Hay was a member of the Medical Advisory Board of the Defensive Diet League of America, and campaigned against the use of aluminum cooking utensils,[1] vivisection[5] and vaccination for smallpox.[6][7] In 1930 he resigned from his local medical society just before charges of unethical advertising were preferred.[1] In 1932 he purchased the Pocono Hay-ven resort and in 1935 became the Medical Director of Hay System, Inc. The Hay diet was popular around that time and many restaurants offered 'Hay-friendly' menus; followers of his dietary advice, who called themselves “Hayites”, included Henry Ford.[8]
Dr William Howard Hay developed brights disease, a form of Kidney disease , and had to move towards alternative methods to cure himself. His own orthadox field of medicine was of little or no help. Hay was a New York Medical Doctor and surgeon, and is more than comfortable at times undermining his own profession, including stating that the medical profession has no purpose in the prevention or the cause of disease, but only in the treatment of it.  He learned about how disease manifests through high acidic intoxication instead of an alkaline or base forming model of digestive health.
Hay was a strong researcher in the discovery and crucial understanding of proper food combining for Human Health.
Dr. Hay was criticized by the medical field, such as Physician Logan Clendening describing the Hay Diet as a "half-baked unscientific food fad".  I looked Logan up and discovered he suffered depression and killed himself.
Dr. Hay lived from 1866 - 1940, dying in automobile accident.

"Any carbohydrate foods require alkaline conditions for their complete digestion, so must not be combined with acids of any kind, as sour fruits, because the acid will neutralise. Neither should these be combined with a protein of concentrated sort as these protein foods will excite too much hydrochloric acid during their stomach digestion."

- William Hay, How to Always Be Well

The Hay System promoted eating three meals per day with
(1) meal one being what the diet considers to be alkaline foods only,
(2) meal two composed of what the diet considers to be protein foods with salads, vegetables and fruit,
(3) and meal three composed of what the diet considers to be starchy foods with salads, vegetables and sweet fruit;
(4) with an interval of 4.0 to 4.5 hours between each meal.

“All disease is caused by auto-toxification (self-poisoning) due to acid accumulation in the body.”
“Now we depart from health in just the proportion to which we have allowed our alkalies to be dissipated by introduction of acid forming food in too great amount… It may seem strange to say that all disease is the same thing, no matter what its myriad modes of expression, but it is verily so.”
“It was said earlier that all we can do for disease is to stop creating this background of acid end-products of digestion and metabolism, and this is true, for if disease comes always and only from this acid collection, then it must be evident to anyone that the cure lies in the discontinuance of this accumulation.
“Pneumonia, erysipelas, typhoid fever, influenza, acute arthritis, colitis, hay fever, all subside when the body is fairly detoxicated and the diet so corrected as to stop this excessive formation of the acid end-products, simply because each was expressing the end-point of tolerance of toxins, and each was the means by which the body sought to unload this unwanted mass.”
“If the blood develops a more acidic condition, then these excess acidic wastes have to be deposited somewhere in the body. If this unhealthy process continues year after year, these areas steadily increase in acidity and their cells begin to die. Other cells in the affected area may survive by becoming abnormal, these are called malignant. Malignant cells cannot respond to brain commands. They undergo a cellular division that is out of control. This is the beginning of cancer.”

QUEEN FOR A DAY!

FEELS GggggRRRRReat!  I am officially caught up with ze laundry!!!  If I could I would do back flips, but I am not built for such a thing.  Not even close.  This is not my GIFT from GOD.  At 64, I'm  alright with being a QUEEN FOR A DAY HAPPY that I am in idle mood for a few days concerning the laundry.  grins.

I am, however, built just right to sit in a nice comfortable THRONE with a crown on my head and wave hellos to the passerbyers.  Sitting is my super power.  I'm getting rather good at it.

Now I will tally-ho and get the sweeping done next week.  You see when I'm in ill health and not up to spiff then something has got to slide with the HOUSEWORK unless one has a cleaning crew come into the  HOUSE and prance about doing what I usually do with the dusting, sweeping and vacuuming.

I don't have a crew so the DUST BUNNIES invade my HOME territories and I do my best to not feed them.  Keep them quiet.  They just hang around until I personally shoo them away.

When I was a little girl I did actually watch QUEEN FOR A DAY on television.  I can't remember very much about it because I was young.  I do remember that one Lady won and was crowned QUEEN FOR A DAY!  Cape, crown and sits in a big chair.  LOOK AT THOSE GORGEOUS FLOWERS!!!

The HOST Jack Bailey and one of the Queens.

WOuldn't this be fun to win and be honored
for what ever you requested?

I watched way too much television as a kid.  As an adult, most days the television no longer comes on, except to watch a movie once in a while.  HONESTLY....it's the computer that is on more than the tele.

THE TELEVISION WATCHING OF MY YOUTH CAN BE COMPARED TO THE YOUTH TODAY ON THEIR PHONES.
I THINK IT IS FAR BETTER TO PLAY OUTSIDE IN THE BACKYARD IN THE DIRT THAN TO BE GLUED TO THE TELEVISION.

THE PROGRAMS OF YESTERYEAR WERE FROM A FAR BETTER MORAL STANCE.
T.V. PROGRAMS TODAY HAVE GONE DOWN THE TOILET.

IF YOU WERE TO RECEIVE A MILLION DOLLARS FOR NOT WATCHING TELEVISION FOR A YEAR......WOULD YOU NOT WATCH?

I'd NOT WATCH.
HERE's A MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!

Well, I have got to go.
Blessings to you,
d

ZEST BOOM BAAH!

U GO GURL!

FOURTH DAY in a row to go to the Laundromat.  Not taking up residence there, but sure need the facility.  Have mercy.  Only have a small amount of laundry left to wash.  PTL.

ALMOST finished with getting caught up.  It's a terrific feeling.  It doesn't last long so when it IS completed I can
pat myself on the back and say "GOOOOOOD JOB, Darlin!"

Sometimes I have to be my own personal CHEERLEADER.
Zest Boom Baah.

I WILL that I will get caught up.
Then I can work at vacuuming the ENTIRE house with dusting really well.  It'll take me a month to get caught up on this TASK in time for THANKSGIVING/CHRISTMAS.
The air is so much cleaner since the DUCT WORK has been professionally cleaned so after I get caught up on dusting it should stay cleaner longer.

ANOTHER WINNING POINT FOR TEAM *LIFE ON THE PRAIRIE/d*

CHEERING MYSELF ON TO VICTORY!
LET'S HEAR IT!!!!  You can do this.  You've got this thing!

Thrift Store Stop today.  Gotta remind myself that I don't need anything, so just enjoy looking.  HAIR APPOINTMENT on the calendar and a AUTUMN CONCERT.  I need to go to the DOLLAR STORE and look at some things.  That about wraps up my TO TOWN activities.

GO TEAM.  No really.
Somebody has got to CHEER me on
so I keep up the pace.

It might as well be me,

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
