helped make Abilene's Dr. Seelye of Seelye Medical Company famous and very RICH.

He wasn't actually a medical doctor

only attending school for one year.

It helped that the general public liked his snake oil.  

Bought it.  Bought it.  Bought it.

  

Mr. Seelye smiled all the way to the Bank.

Founded in 1890, the company's popular "cure-alls" included the Wasa-Tusa healing elixir, 

Fro-Zona menthol and Ner-Vena headache remedy.

   

We took the Abilene, Kansas 
Historic Seelye Mansion Tour and I enjoyed every thing about this place including the Tourist Information Center where artifacts from the Seelye Medical Company are displayed.

I gave that lots of thought.  

You know…maybe crying in a mansion wouldn't be so bad after all.

SEELYE LABORATORY and OPERA HOUSE

Built in 1878 is no more.  President Eisenhower announced that he was running for 
President from this building.

We left that Summer day better informed about the Mansion on Buckeye Street that I had eyeballed for 20 years hoping to see SOMEDAY.  That someday came on my actual 60th birthday in July.  It was extremely satisfying to take an actual TOUR of this magnificent place that is open to the public.

Marking off one of the places I'd like to see on my Mansion Bucket List.

I have no way of knowing how long the Historic Seelye Mansion will be available to tour.  Embracing the moment.  Another lovely Mansion in Abilene is the Lebold Mansion. 

We've toured her twice.

After our second tour, the place went on the market and was sold as a private residence.  She'd go on the market a second time.  The gorgeous draperies that were there vanished.  The antique furniture that was in each decorated High Fashioned Victorian room disappeared.  I have pictures and memories.  It isn't the same.  

The AWESOME pink Victorian Kirby House Restaurant burned to the ground.  She was a beautiful place before the fire.

Three years ago we were fortunate to eat there 

before this mishap took place.

AND SO I say farewell to the Seelye Mansion

that at present time proudly stands for all to see.

She's magnificent.
