IS IT THE WEEK-END YET??? It was a two lipstick kind of day.

UP EARLY AND ON THE ROAD TO TOPEKA FOR MY HUSBAND's FRIDAY MEDICAL APPOINTMENT.  Follow-up on his emergency eye surgery he had last April.  He's coming right along and was given a GOOD REPORT.  See ya in 6 months.

TODAY WAS A VERY BUSY DAY FOR ME.  Slow paced, but busy.  I was rather hungry after his appointment so I went straight to STARBUCKS for a UNSWEETENED Green Iced Tea plus we split a Egg White Roasted Red Pepper EGG Bite with hubby.   THOUGHT IT WAS PRETTY GOOD and I'll get another one in the future.

Lost track of where we went.  JoAnn for more ribbon to make bows for the front door wreaths, Orscheln Farm & Home to look around, Chinese Restaurant for LUNCH, Capitol Federal banking, God's Storehouse to browse in which I found a couple of lovely pastel colored quilts for the Victorian bed and a Emily Post's 1937 book ETIQUETTE, Wal-Mart for supplies buying some lipstick and shoe inserts, Target looking for large paper clips...found that coral colored lipstick I was craving, Office Max for large paper clips, Starbucks to cool off our hot afternoon weather, Menards for bottled water, popcorn salt, popcorn in a bag and home repair supplies, Aldi for Three Bean Salad, Sams for fuel...HOME to unload and eat supper.  AM TIRED.  Is it the week-end yet?

Two pastel colored quilts to adopt into our inventory of bedding.

I was thrilled to get a copy of EMILY POST's ETIQUETTE book.  Back in her hey day she was respected by many and her advice rang true.  The ETIQUETTE book has black and white plates instead of colored ones, but that's alright I can dream anyhow.  I'm not sure I can follow all of the advice, but think the $3 I spent on this hardback copy will provide hours of entertainment.

The blue book is thick and full of valuable advice to think about even in the year 2022.

I bought two tubes of lipstick today looking for a nice coral colored shade for Autumn. The one I bought at Wal-Mart was MAYBELLINE's close to coral, but not quite coral.  I was disappointed, but thought it wasn't too bad.  Then when I was in Target, they actually had a tube called Kiss Me Coral being a beautiful shade of coral by REVLON so I splurged and got it as well. IT WAS A TWO LIPSTICK KIND OF DAY.  I now have my stash of lipstick.  I know that Maybelline and Revlon are not free of harsh chemicals.  Will try to do better later on in life.

MY FEET HURT TONIGHT.  Ouch.  Feet up and relax.  I put in a busy day and got much done. Painting this week-end on the Kitchen cabinet that has been primed and sanded.  More wonderful paper to go through to keep, file or shred.  Whalaah one of these days I will get to say, She's DONE!.  Hallelujah and a half.

I have every intention of eating Three Bean Salad on a bed of lettuce for some meals. LOW CAL.  I need all the help I can get as I have a huge appetite.  I have to be PRO-ACTIVE when dealing with food intake.  I have to watch it.  Remind myself to eat slower, smaller bites, chew more than I usually do, less grains, less dairy, less SUGAR.  Less is the new more.  grins.

As we drove across the PRAIRIE, we'd see much road construction with some of the KANSAS LANDSCAPE trees starting to turn slightly yellow and orange.  Means AUTUMN isn't far behind.  I'm okay with AUTUMN WREATHS on the front doors now.  I'll be making two bows to high light them as they need additional color to make the wreaths POP.

GOSH, the week flew as last week-end we made our way to OKLAHOMA for a grandson's 8th Birthday party and here it is FRIDAY again.  This week flew.  May this week-end be a blessing. One grandson got his driver's permit.  FOOTBALL starts for one and CROSS COUNTRY for a grand-daughter.  A new job starts for a grand-daughter.  Three other grandsons will begin SOCCER.  Life doesn't slow down because I am tired.  Life has to slow down because I took a nap or read a magazine in the leisure of my HOME.

HOME should be a place to kick your shoes off and go ahhhhh.  A HAVEN away from the hustle and bustle of too much noise and too many activities.  SOME TIME UNDER A SHADE TREE would be appreciated where no one is around, but some characters in a book.  No threats and no hurry.

Several movies were watched this week which I thought were alright.  2022 TOP GUN: MAVERICK and the 2014 movie ELSA AND FRED.

TOP GUN: MAVERICK

ELSA AND FRED

I may have to take it slow this week-end as I have been on the go.  Know what I mean, Vern?

Blessings,
~d~

afternoon tea table

Emily Post (1873–1960).
Etiquette. 1922.

The Afternoon Tea-Table

“The afternoon tea table is the same in its service whether in the tiny bandbox house of the newest bride, or in the drawing-room of Mrs. Worldly of Great Estates.”

the child at the table

Emily Post (1873–1960).
Etiquette. 1922.

The Child at Table

“In eating soup the child must dip his spoon away from him—turning the outer rim of the spoon down as he does so....”

“In being taught to use knife and fork together, the child should at first cut only something very easy, such as a slice of chicken....”

“Having cut off a mouthful, he thrusts the fork through it, with prongs pointed downward and conveys it to his mouth with his left hand. He must learn to cut off and eat one mouthful at a time.”

“When no knife is being used, the fork is held in the right hand, whether used ‘prongs down’ to impale the meat or ‘prongs up’ to lift vegetables”

“Bread should always be broken into small pieces with the fingers before being buttered.”

“When he has finished eating the child should lay his knife and fork close together, side by side, with handles toward the right side of his plate.”

the ideal guest room

Emily Post (1873–1960).
Etiquette. 1922.

The Ideal Guest Room

“The ideal guest room is never found except in the house of the ideal hostess; and it is by no means idle talk to suggest that every hostess be obliged to spend twenty-four hours every now and then in each room set apart for visitors."

(note to self:  the ideal hostess doesn't always have an extra room to provide visiting guests....so it is more important to be the attentive hostess that makes her guests feel welcomed and at home even if they sleep on the floor.  Provide proper blankets and pillows.  Give them yours if you don't have spares.)

The Most Elaborate Dinner Dance Ever Given in New York

“The scene represents the palace and garden at Versailles. There were only four tables. Singers appeared on the balcony during dinner, other performers danced, sang and juggled on the pathways. After the dinner the pathways of grass were taken up to permit dancing by the guests.”

consideration for servants

My Kitchen is minus the Servent......it seems that our present day Kitchens are more sophisticated than this one that would have been found in a mansion.

I like the order that this illustration suggest.

“A gem of a house may be no size at all, but its lines are honest, and its painting and window curtains in good taste.... and its bell is answered promptly by a trim maid with a low voice and quiet courteous manner.”

Well...I have the low voice.......good enough?

quote...unquote

Emily Post (1873–1960).
Etiquette. 1922.

The Personality of a House

“The personality of a house is indefinable, but there never lived a lady of great cultivation and charm whose home, whether a palace, a farm-cottage or a tiny apartment, did not reflect the charm of its owner."

I'm off to a quiet start this morning.  I came across this Emily Post Quote that I had scribbled down in one of my numerous notebooks and wanted to check it out to see if it was indeed one of her quotes.  According to cyberspace.....it is.  So, I'm sharing it.  I agree with it.

If you were to stick your head into my home today....you'd see that the charm of my home is in need of some thinning out of messes and getting better organized.  My home truly is reflecting my personality these days.  Scattered brained and in need of a vacation.  I will be thankful when the messes are rightfully taken care of and my home mirrors a Lady that finally got caught up!

Pleasant thoughts and God bless,
~d~

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

“Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.”

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

By wisdom
a house is built,
and through understanding

it is established;
through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

and beautiful treasures.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
