Rug Time

It has been a week since Thanksgiving and I haven't plastered my blog with THANKSGIVING pictures yet, but I will.

TODAY, our area rugs were delivered to our HOME, but way earlier than the scheduled time.  I panicked as the delivery man called and told me that they were going to deliver the rugs two hours earlier than our scheduled time.  HUBBY wouldn't be HOME as scheduled and the rugs would only be delivered to the driveway when we had made arrangements for an IN HOME delivery.

HUBBY managed to get HOME just as the delivery truck was parking in front of our sidewalk.  HUBBY managed to print off our agreement from Nebraska Furniture Mart that stated our rugs were to be brought into the house and unrolled in place.

Things worked out for us as the two delivery men agreed to bring the rugs indoors.  They are beautiful and we like them very much.  We'll leave them rolled out without furniture on them so they have time to relax and lay properly.  THESE rugs plus two recliners will be our 2018 CHRISTMAS gifts for our estate.

TODAY, I watched the WALTONS on television as I did four loads of towels at the launder-mat.  Too cold to drive to retirement cottage to do laundry.  After the Holidays and well into SPRING, we will draw up plans for where the washer and dryer will go in our new location.  It'll take months to get all settled into this prairie house where the hook-ups are in the basement.  Giving it great thought about the hook-ups being in the Kitchen so the basement stairs are not a hinderance to aging legs and aching backs.

The CHRISTMAS tree will be set up this week as I decide what else we can get out.  The Nativity Scene, fireplace garland, front door garland, wreaths for the front doors.  Maybe a couple of miniature Christmas trees on both sides of the front doors.  Don't suppose the outside trees will get decked out as the weather decided to deliver WINTER early in the middle of AUTUMN.  It's as if our AUTUMN was one month long then bam SNOW with freezing temps.

Pics later,

sNoW fLaKeS SnOw FlAkEs

Unwrapping my new snowflake Christmas ornaments that I bought back in October.  Time flies.  Getting geared for CHRISTMAS.  A new Christmas tablecloth is going to be washed this week to replace the brown one that was used for Thanksgiving Holiday.

I mentioned to my Hubby that I would like to have the Nativity Scene out and place it on the buffet.  Knowing he knows where to find it.  Decorating will be light.  The Christmas tree theme is going to be WINTER SNOWFLAKES with twinkle lights.  Light blue, silver, white and crystal decorations.

Table cloth and candle on Dining room table.
Nativity Scene on buffet.
Christmas tree up and decorated in the Living room.
Wreaths on the front doors.
Maybe some garland lining the outside of the front doors.
Garland on the fireplace mantle.

HoHoHo Merry Christmas.
Not sure the large plastic ornaments will be hung  to dangle on the large trees on the front lawn.
I might go so far as to place a Christmas bedspread on the Guest bed.  That could be fun.
Candles are ready to go.
Best to buy some throw away Christmas plates, cups and napkins to use for company.

That's about it for now,

Thoughts Of CHRISTmas

THOUGHTS of how I'm going to decorate and which foods to fix this year for CHRISTmas have been swirling about inside my head for a few weeks now.  It's hard to contain it.  Staying the course for THANKSGIVING was a difficult event this year as our entire main floor of the house was a mess due to remodeling.  The furniture shuffle was out of necessity.

Being THANKFUL.

Remembering how our country came to be requires setting apart some time to be thankful.  This Holiday came to be.

The event that Americans commonly call the "First Thanksgiving" was celebrated by the Pilgrims after their first harvest in the New World in October 1621. This feast lasted three days, and—as accounted by attendee Edward Winslow—it was attended by 90 Native Americans and 53 Pilgrims.

The New England colonists were accustomed to regularly celebrating "thanksgivings"—days of prayer thanking God for blessings such as military victory or the end of a drought.

George Washington was the first president to proclaim a day of thanksgiving, issuing his request on October 3, 1789, exactly 74 years before Abraham Lincoln's last Thursday of November "as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise."

Much has changed in our modern culture towards being THANKFUL to God for HIS many blessings directed toward us.  Taking some time to remember and celebrate that we have received many blessings is much needed in my LIFE as I do not want to ignore being THANKFUL.

Our week-end after this Thanksgiving will be the beginning of slowing the pace of activities as CHRISTmas begins seasoning in.  Staying focused on remember the LORD's earthly birthday will be meaningful.  If I keep a slow, steady pace until CHRISTMAS, my nerves will surely be calmer.  Much needed.

"Behold, the virgin shall be with Child, and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which translated means, 'God is with us.'" - Matthew 1:23

Isaiah 7:14 King James Version (KJV) 14 Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

I began CHRISTmas shopping before Thanksgiving.  The easier this is the better it is as I have been aging right before myself.

Further research and study will take place as I hope to continue to walk in better health.  Tis an ongoing journey.

This week-end we will rest.  We have to.  Working on the house so much has worn us down.

Sleep is needed,
d

THANKful For Today

Colossians 3:17 King James Version (KJV)

17 And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Made it to the grocery store late Sunday afternoon to enter SAMs busy like a ZOO.  Still they were well stocked and I purchased pies plus a few other goodies to help me out this week with the menus.  Starbucks was in order for the drive HOME and to get rived up to clean the inside of the fridge making room for this weeks progress.  HUBBY came with me for a much needed break away from the painting.

King James Bible Psalm 150:6
Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.

But first as Hubby was pushing a grocery cart to our car...a turn made the carton of organic eggs in a clear container go flying onto the pavement.  The majority of these beautiful brown eggs broke exposing the golden yokes inside.  These raw eggs did not cook on the pavement as it was icy cold outside.  ha.  A nice Sams worker that was pushing shopping carts back inside told Hubby that he could take the carton with broken eggs exchange for good eggs.  We loaded our two carts into the auto.  Two shopping carts full of goodness.  I haven't shopped SAMs like this since last THANKSGIVING.  It's been a while.

Psalm 107:1 King James Version (KJV)

107 O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.

Oops then it happened...as he was loading the carton of root beer the carton fell a part and out jumps a can bouncing off the pavement and rolling downhill which caused a pin hole to spray carbonated root beer as it sailed away.  Okay that's organic eggs and a root beer accident.  Oh the battle wounds of shopping at a ZOO with an extra tired Husband.  I know his muscles are tired from all of the painting, shuffling furniture, climbing up and down a ladder at HOME.  This has been a long ordeal.

Psalm 69:30-34 King James Version (KJV)

30 I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving.
31 This also shall please the Lord better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs.
32 The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God.
33 For the Lord heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners.
34 Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein.

I drove Husband to the front door so he could exchange the eggs and then parked over at the loading zone to wait.  He was gone a good 15 minutes as he had to go through the steps to replace the eggs.  Perhaps the eggs had to be laid by the chickens out back.  No it was just extremely busy.

Psalm 100:4 King James Version (KJV)

4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

Company is coming for THANKSGIVING and I am no where near ready as the house is in an uproar from the painting and the furniture shuffling.  I need to get on a roll and get this HOME back into service.  Exhausted just thinking 'bout it.

Hubby has painted like a machine to get to where we are going.  Calling a truce until after THANKSGIVING.  The Living room looks like humans live here as it is civil once again.  The Dining room hopefully will be presentable late tonight and the Kitchen will reappear tomorrow.

King James Bible 1 Thessalonians 5:18
In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

Today, I had best wash my hair and curl it to where it air dries.  The Guest room will be ready, but not the hallway as this is where I have placed items that need further attention.  Will have to hide it and deal with it all later.  sigh.  Okay...moving right along.  I didn't get the laundry caught up, but hope to get undies, towels, bed sheets and blue jeans washed today.

SO that's hair washed 'n curled to air dry, Guest room tweaked on, laundry worked on and I think I had better buzz to ALDIs to finish up the grocery shopping.  Then put all away.  That's enough for a busy day.

King James Bible Philippians 4:6
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

I will be ever so THANKFUL when this week has slowed down.  SOMETIMES my LIFE just gets way too busy for being comfortable and I don't do well on adrenaline highs.  Exhaustive.

I can be THANKFUL that not everyday is so busy.  Thankful.

God bless and I hope that you are able to slow your pace some so you can take time to remember the blessings.  Talking to the choir here.

THANKSGIVING,
d

Pinch Me

AS FAST AS THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER IS GOING
I will not be ready for Thanksgiving Day or Christmas.
The last few years when it was THANKSGIVING DAY, I would be sitting at the dinner table eating the nice meal telling myself it's Thanksgiving day.  Not quite believing it.

Pinch me and eat a piece of pie,

Remembering Rambled Thoughts

I remember growing up in a time when my MOTHER was HOMEMAKER receiving her new refrigerator.  A much taller, modern style than the little one with a very small freezer on top that had to be defrosted ever so often.  An activity that few do these days.  Excitement ran rampant when the delivery man brought the new fridge to our HOME on Roosevelt Street.

Dad faithfully kissed Mom good-bye each day as he left for work a short drive from our little house in Liberal, Kansas.

The day a third television station was broadcasted in black and white to our HOME.  Channel 13 had made her debut which meant we had ABC, NBC and CBS.  Saturday Night At THE Movies with popcorn and Pepsi.  Family TV Night was better when watching Disney, Bonanza and Sunday Night At The Movies altogether.  Dad stretched out on the sofa with Mom and us kids sat on the carpeted floor or in one of the overstuffed upholstered chairs.  No channel switcher needed as we were available to be the one to turn the channel.

Making Snow Angels in the Church yard across the street from where we lived was acceptable entertainment for a 10 year old girl bundled in snow apparel.  Snow Ice-cream was minty fresh and cold to the mouth.  Delicious.  The fear of nuclear fall-out would come later with black speckles in the snow.  I didn't quite understand why we could no longer make snow ice-cream.

Walking the two blocks to Grade School wasn't a life and death situation.  There was no fear of being molested by perverts.  At the age of five, I would make the journey to McKinley Elementary Grade School five days a week until the end of sixth grade.

The harshest thing that would happen to me while in Grade School was having to take a spelling test in the first grade after returning to school from a three month absence due to recovering from Rheumatic Fever at HOME.  Mrs. Stockton handed me a test and I asked her if I had to take it.  She said yes then I cried out loud, "But I didn't get to STUDY!!!"  She simply told me to do my best.  I don't remember the outcome of this test, but I was devastated at the time.  That Summer I would get my first taste of SUMMER SCHOOL to help stay on top of academics.  Hum.

Discovering that wearing cat framed eyeglasses weren't as cool as I thought they were when selecting them at the Optometrist Office.  Nobody seemed to notice I even had glasses when I showed up with glamorous facial jewelry propped on my nose.  Hum.  They were so purdee and tannish in color.  I could see so much better with them on my face.

While in the Third Grade, President Kennedy was assassinated.  I remember going HOME for lunch that day and returning to school in which our class was in a detached annex building beside the big brick building that I would attend the Fifth and Sixth Grade in later.  Eventually this two story brick building would be done away with.  The annex building would as well.  I returned to class and the intercom came on with the sound of organ music playing.  I thought for some reason that the music was from the Elmer Childress Program that my Mom listened to which played religious tunes.  Instead a man's voice came over the intercom announcing that President Kennedy had died.  I don't remember the teacher discussing any of this with us as we were expected to continue on with our school work as if nothing had happened in the world.  Couldn't she have at least talked about what had just happened and how the government would handle this?  A once in a life time life lesson was ignored.

Running head on with fellow student Jack butting heads when coming from opposite directions around the corner of the school building hitting so hard it knocked us both to the ground seeing stars.  We were in each other's blind spot.  This was a whole body slam talking to our innermost being.  It took a little time to catch our breath and pick ourselves up from the ground dusting ourselves off.

When not being picked first for a team activity and wondering when I would be selected was not a welcomed feeling as well.  Not being selected for the SCHOOL TALENT SHOW left me unsettled and determined to be alright with the reject.  Fellow friend and school mate and I played a duet while sitting on the elevated stage.  She played her saxophone and I played my tried and true clarinet.  I suppose we weren't flashy enough nor sounded like Lawrence Welk's a one and a two and a here we go.  If I could have had this recorded I suppose it would speak volumes that we just weren't showy enough with a good sound.  Linda would grow up to become a Judge and I one that judges.

Being scared when a classmate's sister died.  I should have let it be known that this scared me so I could have been comforted.  A life lesson ignored.

I was the tallest girl in the sixth grade and I had no white GO-GO Boots to wear.  These boots were made for walking and that's just what they'll do...one of these days these boots are goin walk all over you.  Nancy Sinatra tune.

Some good moments were when my artwork was x'd by the Art Critique that would silently come into our room carrying a pencil to mark the work that would be in the yearly Art Show and Tell.  Our Open House would display the work.  Such excitement would be difficult to contain.

Satisfying to my young soul was when I WON the chalkboard MATH race against the classroom brainiac  Craig.  Craig loved anything about astronauts and the Space Age.  Unfortunately he got into trouble one day and was denied the opportunity to watch a classroom television blast off.  I felt sorry for him when he cried that he had never missed one.  Mr. Compton the Superman look-a-like was a beast that day in the Sixth Grade.  He seemed like the bad guy instead of one fighting corruption leaping tall buildings in a single bound.  Faster than a speeding bullet.  More powerful than a locomotive.  Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound.  Look up into the sky...it's a bird, it's a plane...no it's Superman!  Mr. Compton wasn't Superman.  He was just a man dealing out disciplinary action that was extremely harsh to a child who never missed a NASA event that was televised.  This may have even been Craig's television.  I don't recall having a classroom television.  Hum.  I wonder where Craig is today.

New clothing and school supplies at the start of the year.  RECESS.  Music with Miss Reynolds holding her hanky always wearing a proper dress.  Short curly black with grey hair and wearing her beautiful glasses.  She was strictly a music teacher first and always a very good Methodist.  Band.  Being a TWIRLER and marching in the city wide Parades.  Come rain or shine we marched in the cold weather with a SMILE on our faces.  Ear muffs were acceptable.  Winning a HUGE homemade cake at the School's Carnaval CAKE WALK.  This was in the day that you knew you won something important because it was a rather LARGE cake all your own.  Walk to playing music beside chairs that were arranged in a circle.  One by one a chair would be pulled from the circle and the person left without a chair left the formation.  I won.

Getting silent crushes on Jeff, Roy, Al, Tony, Jack, Larry, etc.  Never drawing attention to myself except in Kindergarten when I was five years old and I really like JEFF.  He gave me a ring and my first KISS.  Haven't a clue where he is today.

Going HOME after school knowing my MOTHER would be there to see how my day went before I kicked my shoes off and had a snack.

Playing in the backyard.  Watching TV.  Swimming across the Living room floor.  Cutting out furniture from old catalogs making make-believe homes with four Living rooms and six Bedrooms.  Having adventures as Honey West, the Beatles, the Monkeys,  Pretending.  Imaginations running wild.  Lost In Space,  Batman.  Playing Barbies and pulling my Sister's nose.  Pinocchio.

Receiving CHRIST and singing in the choir.  It was a time when house doors weren't always locked.  I could walk clear to town alone with pigtails bouncing.  The Park was available.  The swimming pool ready for a dip.  Not such a scary time.

Christmas was exciting with colored lights in the front yard bushes covered in snow.  Silver snowflakes hanging from the Living room ceiling.  An angel on top of the Christmas tree.  Christmas morning with new gifts under the tree.  Loving Parents and siblings.  Early mornings waking to Christmas.  Listening to Christmas Carols and watching Christmas programs.

Baby Dolls under the Christmas tree.

Mom would wash my hair and pin curl it after she combed it straight.  Went to bed with pin curls all over my head.  Maybe I should try this technique once more.  What would it look like?  Humm.

Meals around the kitchen table with a window air conditioner in front of the table which made Summer time meals rather chilly as I sat in front of the unit.

First time to taste shrimp made by my Mom she couldn't fix them fast enough as we kept wanting more.

A puppy under Dad's office desk.

First Tacos tasted in Colorado.  Delicious on the first bite.

One year Dad brought HOME the most beautiful Blue Point Siamese Cat with gorgeous blue eyes named Monkey-John.  People traveling across country just couldn't stand his meow as a half crazed kitty in their automobile as they drove across country.  Their trip wouldn't be completed for hours.  They stopped at Security Oil Company in Liberal, Kansas where my Dad managed this glamorous 24/7 open Service Station.  Dad offered to take the cat.  He'd find out what they meant when he brought Monkey-John HOME in his car.  Monkey-John went deliriously crazy in the car meowing fanatically non-stop.  He'd live with us for many years.  He was generally a calm creature except when in a traveling vehicle then he came unglued.

Dad would frequently trade a car for another one as it was not uncommon to swap automobiles at the Service Station.  One day a brown car the next maybe a blue one.  Dad was known to keep his tools in his car which would rattle about while he drove back and forth to work puffing on an old cigar with the window down in the middle of the Winter.  Mom wouldn't allow Dad to smoke at HOME so he did at work and in his car which was his palace.  Once Dad had a hitch hiker riding along in his car.  A mouse ran up his pant leg causing Dad to smack it as it ran for higher ground.

Dad had integrity and decided he needed to buy his own Service Station after he was cheated out of a yearly bonus.  He and Mom decided that enough was enough and bought a station back in my Dad's old stomping grounds where he grew up and met my Momma.  They were each others best friends.  He did this after I graduated from High School.

When I was a Freshman in College, my folks moved away and I stayed behind feeling like a fish out of water without them.  Farewell.  I could no longer go inside the Roosevelt HOME filled with HOME accessories being the place I grew up from age 4 to 18.  NOT in this physical body, but my mind is a different story.  In a flash I see every room and remember so many hours of being a Family so long ago.

I still remember loads more, but that's enough for today,
d

November

~Mom and Dad~

November this year seems like WINTER.  The oranges, browns and yellows of AUTUMN have taken cover under the snow and grey skies.  WONDER if the outdoor pumpkins will weather well or shrink?  S H R I N K and s h r i v e l.

Along with THANKSGIVING comes loved ones birthdays.  My Dad who is heaven would have been 92 today.  My ornery son celebrated his 41st birthday about a week ago and my first Grand-daughter turns 17 next week.

HAPpy BIRTHday to my loved ones and all those having a BIRTHday this month!!!

All grown up and a amazing man.

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

“Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.”

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

By wisdom
a house is built,
and through understanding

it is established;
through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

and beautiful treasures.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
