7-UP AND SATURDAY SLUMP
PRAYING FOR A BRIGHTER DAY. I have a little something going on with my body. Sipping 7-up, eating jello, napping off and on throughout the day. Slight temp. YESTERDAY WAS ROUGH as I couldn't stay awake and had intense intestinal cramps with stomach ache. Really bad.
TODAY, I improved. I will allow myself time to heal in the quiet.
When jello doesn't appeal to me, I know I'm sick. I eagerly sip 7-UP. Alright with the calories. Not much else makes it way to my mouth. Keep hydrated and rest. Best medicine I can suggest.
CURIOUS ABOUT 7-UP's origin?

DINING ON THE PRAIRIE: Grass Fed Pot Roast, Carrots and Two Types of Potatoes
HAVE MERCY...it was so good. Kind of like Yankee Pot Roast in Kansas.
THE POT ROAST was slow cooked in my crockpot for 7 and a half hours so the roast was very tender. Beforehand I seared the roast, I poured some olive oil in the crock pot and cut up an onion to simmer in the olive oil while I seared the sides of the roast in oil. I used a cast iron skillet on the range before transporting the roast to the crockpot.
For an hour I let the roast cook in the olive oil with onions then added spring water covering the roast. After an hour in the water, I added carrots and potatoes.
It turned out well. Of course I love organic ketch-up so I topped it off with some. Hubby made the gravy for the potatoes. He's a gravy kind of guy. Together we had a wonderful meal on a cold day.
Next, I'll make stew with the left overs by adding corn, green beans and stewed tomatoes. Dining On The Prairie is delicious.
Blessings,

KALE
Of all the super healthy greens, kale is king.
WHERE'S POPEYE WHEN YOU NEED HIM? Instead of spinach eat KALE? Eat both and then some.
I ACTUALLY ATE SOME KALE mixed in with broccoli this pat week. Ummmmm. I didn't like it, but I ate it anyways. It looked a lot like a mixture between lettuce and spinach, but nasty tasting. I'd rather eat spinach.
ONE OF THE MOST NUTRIENT DENSE VEGETABLES I hear is KALE. Did some reading about other ways to prepare it SO I will try fixing some at HOME because Hubby and I need NUTRIENT-DENSE FOOD.
Be sure to wash the product extra good before preparing to eat because this vegetable is known to be one of the dirtiest products due to being heavily sprayed with pesticides. I'll be looking for ORGANIC.
https://experiencelife.com/article/how-to-cook-kale/
I pray that I can stay faithful in eating nutrient dense foods. It's a BIG NO on the liver, shellfish, seaweed and sardines. The rest, NO PROBLEM.
Have you found yourself needing change in your food program, diet, what's on your plate?
I have.
There's HOPE. It's called change.

HAVE YOU DONE SOMETHING NICE FOR YOURSELF?
IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE DIFFICULT TO THINK ABOUT SELF, does it? If nothing else is said, we have a real BE KIND TO SELF campaign going on. Not to be self centered, but being good to self has to be balanced. When you are use to giving, giving, giving to so many others, being nice to self sometimes falls through the cracks. It is necessary to be kind to oneself no matter what.
So I ask myself, what have I done nice to and for myself today? PAUSE. Think about it. What? I drank my V8 this morning for my BREAKFAST so there are a few servings of vegetables and I did not go over board on lunch. I ate gluten-free chips and the bread used for the tuna fish sandwich was gluten free as well. The eggs were free-range organic eggs. Drinking iced tea and spring water. This afternoon I will skip my nap and work upstairs decluttering on the house. It's an ongoing process. Some good 'ole exercise. Happy thoughts and prayers.
It is easy for me now to say I will not drink diet sodas or use artificial sweeteners. Cutting back on actual sugars will take some work. Limiting my intake takes discipline. Actually it seems like so much really is a work of discipline... even what I think about and use my time on. More vegetables and fruit. Why adding this to my diet is so hard, I don't know, but it seems that I do not eat enough of these throughout the day.
I'll be studying up on switching some lifestyle changes concerning preparation of foods. Knowing more about what to purchase, avoid, or add.
Blessing the food I eat will continue. Dear God Prayers will continue.
OUR WEATHER IS GORGEOUS TODAY. I will take a short walk and breathe in some fresh air. Today and tomorrow it will be like SPRING. Too pretty to stay indoors all day.
BUT I HAVE TO DO SOME INDOOR CHORES. Of course. Left over pot roast for supper. Will start to warm it around 4 this afternoon so it's ready to eat around 6.
WALKING THE STAIRS will continue. Slow stretches. Dusting will continue. Decluttering will continue. This old lady may be boring, but I am for real.
What have you done for yourself that's kind and nice?

SLOW ABOUT KONMARI
Internet image. Look what someone did.
Such order.
SEEMS LIKE KONMARI was all the rage in 2016. I hadn't heard of it because I didn't watch much TV nor did I read about it on the internet. Where the heck was I? Babysitting, daughter got married, Mother- in-law on her death bed, a devastating house fire and a dad that did die after suffering 11 days after a stroke. I was emotionally spent. Period. No Konmari for me.
SO I can say I did not hear about KONMARI. 2017 wasn't much better. Too busy recovering from house fire and another parent died. GRIEF. Buying a house and getting items for living were on the horizon as 675 boxes from of our belongings from being cleaned at Service Master came back to us. Hello. No space for so many boxes. We had to store them at a storage unit as the cottage we were living in was way too small to handle these boxes. We bought a house.
Truthfully, I did not know what KONMARI was until 2020. Looking back I remember our realtor talking about saying goodbye to items. Hold the item and see if it brings you joy or not. Take a picture. I had no idea she was talking about KONMARI METHOD.
Now in 2021, our t-shirts are KONMARIed in the drawer. I have some more t-shirts to do. Do I like this method? I'm getting use to it, but just in the t-shirt arena. Not ready to hold each item and see if I have a spark for it that brings me joy. COMMON SENSE decluttering is going on. Spiritually, emotionally and physically I am there.
Stream lining our interior. This is why the bedrooms were shuffled this past week. In the Master Bedroom, the simple task of switching the highboy with the dresser so a Henredon chair would fit in the room was an easy step except for the splinter in my foot. That was more difficult than switching the furniture about. They slid so well.
An antique chair that was in the Bedroom was carried down the stairs and now rest peacefully in the Living room by the fireplace. Back to the other bedrooms. The Henredon chairs had to be moved out of the way so a antique cedar chest was shuffled down the hall into a new place where the chairs were. Time era related furniture in the same room looks so much better. BUT FIRST storage boxes in the hallway needed shuffled elsewhere to make a clear path. These puppies are still needing gone through and relocated elsewhere. Pencil it in for next week.
With the cedar chest leaving the Victorian room, I shuffled the washstand across the room where the cedar chest used to be opening up the window beside the bed. The victorian sofa was moved making room for the victorian dresser to slide across the room over in a different corner where the sofa was and the sofa went where the dresser was. More boxes need dealt with. sigh. Deep breath. The dolls that were on the sofa went onto the bed until I cleared out an area in a different closet. I moved the dolls yesterday into a different room's closet. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. Then we went to town.
This morning the two oscalating fans were taken apart to clean away a couple years worth of Kansas dust. They look better and will run better. More efficient.
Today, I want to refold my t-shirts the Konmari way. I can do this as I sit. Another drawer being better organized. Casual tops and blue jeans in the laundry. TIS SATURDAY And I hope to get more stuff dealt with in the bedrooms. Heavens, it's always something. The less somethings I have to deal with the better. Here's when decluttering is needed.
The snowmen decoration where put away today into a storage box to hide for another year. HONESTLY, I was READY for them to go. The real snow and bitter cold has made me want an early SPRING. I will need to locate my door wreaths and get them out.
KONMARI...a great way to get tidy when dealing with clothing and the interior of ones HOME. I like the way it looks when finished. Hope I can continue being neater.
BLESSINGS to you.

REMOVING A SPLINTER...AND THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER
WONDERING HOW TODAY WILL GO...shall see. This week all the bedroom furniture is getting shuffled in hopes of making the bedrooms more functional and coordinated in style. The shuffling is going very, very slow, but it's going. This story has a happy ending...AND THEY LIVED HAPPILY EVER AFTER.
When the rooms are arranged like I want and like, I am a happier me. It satisfies something deep inside me to have the furniture just so so. Whalaah. Tis comfortable. Contented am I.
TODAY, I am in hopes of shuffling the Victorian bed room furniture. Practicing in my head arrangements being rehearsed. It's doable. I slid the cedar chest in the Vintage room and I love it. Such a nice piece of furniture. It slid easily down the hallway into the other bedroom after moving storage boxes out of the way that I'll deal with later.
LATER, the cedar chest will be emptied out after the bedrooms are shuffled. Probably next week? I'll be returning my wedding memorabilia to the chest. Like visiting with an old friend that's finally come to visit. The cedar chest and wedding dress belong together. They are well acquainted with one another. After the 2016 house fire, the cedar chest went to refinishers and the wedding dress went to be professionally cleaned. When the dress returned, she was in a special box. She has stayed boxed for over 4 years. The cedar chest returned looking better than ever. Once again there will be 'they lived happily ever after.'
Emotionally and mentally, I'd like to have my wedding memorabilia together again. When a person has relocated as much as I have where all the belongings get mixed up, it's an 'act of love' getting everything in its place and a place for everything. The HAPPY ENDING is when all the things are where I know they are and neatly stored. This time around, our relocation has been an ongoing venture. This Spring, I am in HOPES that the bedroom furniture is where it will stay for awhile. Restful and peacefully in place.
I have a vision of my HOME being neat and clean once again. This WINTER should be the perfect time to make it happen. Being indoors during the cold months has it's advantages for a HOME MAKER. Yet SPRING is in 29 days!!! The count down is on.
IN A NUT SHELL: Furniture shuffled. Storage boxes gone through. Single pictures relocated. Cedar chest emptied and filled with wedding memorabilia. Cedar chest items will need relocated. Closet bedding taken out, refolded and relocated. Chair placed in closet. More storage boxes gone through. Musical shuffle. It sounds so quick and easy when put this way, but when push comes to shove, it's a very slow and a time consuming process for an old woman doing it by herself. I have to do a little here and a little there when my back is the way it is. Frequent and long sitting breaks in which I manage to work on paperwork.
YESTERDAY, I TOOK A PLEASANT DRIVE in the afternoon with the sun shining to the Post Office, Bank, Hardware Store and Grocery store. The temps were about 21 degrees when the temps the day before were -21. 21 is much better. The negative is difficult to take.
TOMORROW, I hope to be well rested.
Hubby got that nasty splinter out of the bottom of my foot. Feels so much better. Strange how a tiny splinter can cause so much havoc. I didn't know about another way to remove a splinter. Tweezers and fine sterilized needle.
TIPS ON GETTING A SPLINTER OUT:
https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/550097/simple-and-painless-ways-to-remove-a-splinter
In the evening, I slathered Healing Jelly over both of my feet and put cotton socks on them to sleep in and wear throughout the night. This past year my feet have become so dry it's scary. Working at moisturizing my skin. If I do this in the evening then place cotton socks on my feet, perhaps they will not be so dried out. Just have to be faithful in doing so.
The human body is constantly changing. C o n s t a n t l y. I've noticed that after I take a shower and work at getting the old skin off my feet that within the hour the skin is extremely dried out. I have to moisture them.
I remembered when I was 29 years old taking a train trip to New York from Omaha, Nebraska where I slept in my seat, that an elderly couple sat across the aisle. I didn't understand why the woman placed plastic bags on her feet at night. Now I think I get it. Keeping the moisture in takes some doing at times. I wonder if this elderly couple lived happily ever after?
Blessings.

DECORATING ON THE PRAIRIE: LET THERE BE LIGHT!
Our $5 solid brass chandy has been put to good use. We had decided to install a chandelier that we had. It was used in our rock house until we got a different chandy. This Williamsburg chandy went out to the garage for a few years. We moved in 2017 and the chandy came with us.
This chandelier has a history with us when we bought it about 9 years ago for $5. Our thrifty buy was in pieces when we spied it lying in some snow in the yard of a thrift shop. We brought her HOME and my dear talented HUBBY cleaned her up and assembled her. I was thrilled to have her then and I'm thrilled to have her hanging in our new house. Really thrilled. More can be read about this $5 chandy:
http://homehavenministry.blogspot.com/2012/01/decorating-on-prairie-and-5-chandy.html
After we moved to this present location, we had a new ceiling put in the living room, Hubby asked that a hole be made so a light could be hung. It paid off. We have been living with a hole in the ceiling. Started looking at lights. Time flew by and here we are. With this horribly cold weather, our forgotten chandy went up instead of purchasing a different one.
A medallion was painted 3 coats of Benjamin Moore Cotton Ball paint, then installed. Chandy went up next. We are so pleased to have more light in the room! It makes me really happy to look up at the light and marvel.
Let there be light and there was,

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.
