TIS TERRIBLE THAT A COUPLE OF WOMEN DISAPPEARED FROM THEIR CAR on the way to pick up the children of the younger woman for a birthday party. Traveling from one small community to another. Yes, but I questioned why so quickly this is getting international news. Sad and tragic that people disappear each and every day, but they don't become international news. Perhaps if they were well known, but why is this case making international headlines? Between the two of them, are 6 children that do not have their mother, a husband without his mate and a fiancé along with their family and friends.
It appears that there was a horrific custody battle with the children of the 27 year old woman. Her ex-husband is in drug rehab so he has an alibi when the disappearance took place. The children were exposed to child abuse by the woman's brother. So I can see where the Paternal grandmother does not want her grandchildren living with their mother if she isn't going to protect the children from the brother that sexually abused them. The mother had violated the custody orders. I suspect this is why the mother did not have full custody of her own children.
The older woman was 39 and a Pastors wife that was riding along to comfort the younger woman. The women never arrived to pick the children up. With the car being abandoned on the side of the road, whoever abducted the women was not interested in taking the car as it was left behind. They are missing.
I haven't heard if cell phone calls were made during the women's journey to pick the children up in Oklahoma. The news has not said anything about cell phones at all.
The younger women's pastor was contacted to inform him that the woman never made it to pick up the children. Not sure what else the pastor was told, but he and the husband of the other women went to where the car was that was surrounded by law enforcement officers.
We have relatives in Hugoton that my husband contacted to visit with concerning this awful thing. It doesn't look very promising that the women will be found alive as large amounts of blood were found in the car and about it along with drag marks leading away from the car.
Like many others, I'm piecing together what I think happened. I used to live in Hugoton. Moved there in 1975 with my Husband and new born son. We rented a small house with a rather large fenced in yard. Would go on and get mortgaged to our first house on the same street as the rental. Have two more babies while living there.
We'd leave Hugoton around 1980 Thanksgiving time and return to Liberal, Ks. Communities constantly change. The dynamics of both communities has morphed into different places to live.
My heart goes out to the families and especially the young children. This all took place the day before EASTER.
