SPRING SHUFFLE

CHIRPING BIRDS can be heard today as I am resting.  Sitting in a quiet, darkened room with a table lamp lit.  Grey skies outside since we had a gentle SPRING RAIN throughout the night and into the rest of the day.  Watering the flowers that will begin to break through the grounds in hopes that SPRING is really near.  Makes me SMILE.

I worked at clearing HOLIDAY items off the dining room table reclaiming the large metal serving tray holding Easter Bunnies and colored eggs for decoration in past seasons.  I won't decorate for Saint Patty's Day this year going straight into Spring BUNNIES and eggs.  Somewhere in the basement are artificial eggs that will dangle from a tree outside in the yard.  HOPE we can find them.

So very pretty.  I don't expect to do our's this elaborate,
but this is beautiful.

My intense SPRING CLEANING continues.
OLD DARK PIC OF MY MACHINE.
My HONEY and myself shuffled the HEAVY, old treadle sewing machine housed in a oak body out of the Victorian room into the hallway trying to figure out how we'd get her down some stairs, turn her and go up a few more stairs into the SPARE room which will become a television room by CHRISTMAS. grrrrrins.

It may take us this long to make this room manifest.  We used two pieces of wood like skis and slid this heavy sewing machine down the stairs.  Like a skiing pro, she slid down the steps and back up another group of stairs.  Into the spare room she went.  Centered in front of some windows.  For the time being she will sit there with another sewing machine on top as we continue to shuffle boxes that have to be gone through.

It is taking some doin' to get settled in our 1883 PRAIRIE HOME.  A lot of doin'.  A lot.  I can see it completed in my head.  Forge ahead and eventually we'll get there?

IT'S SHUFFLING TIME as we continue to make ourselves fit into place in our HOME.  Our third anniversary of being here will be in May 2020.

This past week-end, we moved two large Henredon arm chairs from the spare room and carried them into the VINTAGE BEDROOM.  This is where they will stay for now.  They were only being stored in the spare room until I could figure out where the heck they'd go.  Henredon arm chairs were out of my price range until we spied these at a THRIFT STORE at a super duper price that I found myself saying,  BUY THESE FOR ME!!!!  With them out of the Spare/Television room, it helps that they are out of this room so more shuffling can take place.  This felt so satisfying to have these huge chairs actually relocated.  I was trying to remember when we bought them.

Tis March now.  I started out the new year sicker than I wanted to be with the flu.  Right before CHRISTMAS I was coughing which led to a horrible cold.  FLU.  Then asthma flared up.  The Impeachment trial was watched.  Nursing myself back to health, February came and a trip to Arizona to visit a dying brother in law.  His funeral service took place and we darted off to TOMBSTONE to relax.  Arrived HOME exhausted.  Beyond tired that caused us to miss our Grandson's Oklahoma birthday celebration.  He turned 13.

I feel my age.  Slowly we are shuffling furniture and de-cluttering.  Deep cleaning is in slow motion.  A sigh of relief is happening as the bedrooms are taking on a character of their own.  Two of the bedrooms were switched.  Messes are still there.  Slowly they will disappear with each day a tiny bit of work happens.  Tiny. Etsy bitty teeny weeny progress.

GATHERING up pictures that will go on the walls.  As the pictures get hung, we'll see progress.

I must be feeling better as I rearranged two shelves where the encyclopedias sat and switched them out with framed pictures of my Grandchildren.  Dusted them and positioned them to smile back at me as I sit in my grey recliner looking across the room.

One day closer to SPRING!  11 days until the calendar declares SPRING is here.  It's been a really long WINTER to me.  By SPRING...I am hoping the Bedrooms are where they're going to stay.  Clutter gone.  Nice bedding on the beds.  Pictures on the walls.

Such small task...so little TIME.
ALWAYS SOMETHING TO DO.  Amen.

Plez Don't Pinch Me

Wearing Green
~What A Beautiful Color~

PLEASE DON'T PINCH ME.

SAINT PATRICK's DAY today.  "Fried Cabbage" with bacon and boiled potatoes is on our menu for supper.  Dear Hubby said he'd fix it after I came across a recipe of his Mom's that was published in a 1994 church letter.  I only have a few of her recipes.

Tonight we will feast.
I know it will be a good hardy meal.
Wearin' green.

PLEASE DON'T PINCH ME......
How did that get started?

Pinching people on St Patrick's day is thought to revolve around the leprechaun and the legend that wearing green makes one invisible to the mischievous fairies. As the dubious legend dictates, leprechauns would pinch anyone not wearing green – so people pinch those not wearing green to remind them…

Finding out that MAEWYN SUCCAT is actual name of St. Patrick who wasn't Irish, but born in Britain to Roman Parents.  Hummmmmm.  What say you?

G R E Y  S K I E S and chilly temps.
I slept in this morning....slept well throughout the night.
It's a refreshing occurrence sleeping throughout the night without waking til morning.  A deep, deep sleep.  Waking refreshed is worth more to a weary soul then money.

Yesterday, I went to town to pay a city bill, cash a check at the bank and stop off at Dollar General.  The weather was pleasant and I was thankful to get outside with fresh air and sunshine.  After shopping, my guts started to rumble and I knew I was in trouble.  I couldn't get HOME fast enough for the bathroom.  Earlier in the day I had taken an Emergen-C.  Welp....this gave me the runs.  Reading up on it, it says sensitive people may get diarrhea and kidney stones.

Sooooooo, I guess I'm sensitive....I won't be taking it for a while and when and if I take it again I'll have to cut way back on the packet.

Took the rest of the evening easy in my housecoat.  Watched the 1965 version of THE FLIGHT OF THE PHOENIX.  I remember  this film that as a family we went to the drive-in to watch.
6' 3" Jimmy Stewart was the pilot.  We had watched the 2004 remake of the movie the other day and decided to watch the original as well.

THE Flight of the Phoenix vs.
FLIGHT of the Phoenix.

Both are good movies with the stories being a tad bit different.  Dennis Quaid just isn't Jimmy Stewart.  I like Dennis in his own right, but what can I say...the remake is a decent story all its own.  A thriller.

Today, I hope to tidy up around my easy chair and dust mop the floor.  I finished going through this round of old family pictures, cards, letters to sort and give to other people.  ONE DAY my living room will return to looking like a Parlour not a cluttered up multi-purpose room.  Thankful we have somewhere to work on this.

The stack of greeting cards between my father.in.law and mother.in.law grew as I dug through a storage tub.  I wasn't ready to pitch them.  Wanted Hubby to go through them then I will part with them.

His dad called his Mom, "Baby Doll".  I didn't know this until a month ago.  A nic-name for her just between the two of them in their special LOVE STORY.  They had one for 66 years.

SPRING is on the calendar
and I can hardly contain myself.

Spring cleaning is on the calendar as well.  A fresh, clean house will make me SMILE and feel better.  LORD, help me get this accomplished.  Please.  I need energy and ambition to go hand in hand.

My Hobby in this time of life is downsizing
and getting better organized, but first comes the SPRING CLEANING.

Please don't pinch me.
Today I wear green...tomorrow, not sure.  Something pretty though.  It'll perk me up.  I'll get this cleaning done and listen to the birds outside as if it were the first time to hear them.  No need to get emotionally involved with the toilet.  Just go through the motions and get 'er cleaned.

When it's all said and done, I'll be smiling and wearing lipstick.
Making HOME a priority,
d

MONDAY and Spring Cleaning

WHERE DO I BEGIN?
My energy level is very low.  Vitamins needed.  I had a mini fit the other day.  It got to me that I am not keeping up with all that needs done.  I have fallen short of being a 'ON TOP OF IT ALL' homemaker.  I'm not being too hard on myself.  I really have fallen behind.  I hurt.

This cough I have flares up ever so often.  Energy is low.  Each morning I have hopes of a better day.  This has been a long drawn out illness.  Though I can get quite a lot done sitting, the other full body chores are really not there.  Even at a snail's pace, I am slow.  MY ATTITUDE needs an adjustment and a half.

For the majority of FEBRUARY, I was down for the count.  Inching into March and having challenges.  Really sick.  I'm trying hard to get back into being a healthier woman.  I'll start with vitamins and PRAYER.

Every little thing I do get done must be considered good enough.
This is a new day and a new week.  Praying for strength and better health.

My dear Husband isn't as well as he could be.  Bronchitis again.

I'd like to start the day by curling my hair and seeing if I can make it presentable again.  It's no secret that my hair has been coming out way too much.  My TSH numbers are still too high meaning I am in a hypothyroid zone where hair falls out more than it should.  My nails are still too brittle.  AND my energy level off.  Not a pretty picture.  Poo.

Back to curling hair.  I will attempt to get a day started where I actually fiddle with my hair.  Then I will gather up the laundry and make a stop at the Laundromat before noon.  Back HOME for a light lunch.  Look over the bills and see what needs taken care of this week.  Make the Guest bed with fresh sheets.  Tidy the room.  A nap may be in here before my Hubby gets HOME from work.  Some quiet time and then supper started.  I think it will be for the best to have a quiet evening.

HERE's to a healthier day!

Will Make Mess While Shuffling

Was so happy that MARCH arrived.  Had a slow day going through pictures and paperwork until HUBBY came HOME early due to serious asthma attack.  Made a call to the doctors and away we went.  Bronchitis.

While meds were being filled, we went for an early supper.  After picking up meds we headed to the laundromat so I could finally get bedding washed.  The place was a zoo.  So busy.

This week-end I need to work over the Guest room and clean.  First place to SPRING CLEAN.  It seems like clutter breeds faster than ever in this house.  We have a lot of pictures and items that we brought HOME with us after my Father-in-law's funeral.  There are some pictures that I want to hang in this room.  MY GOAL is to have this room all tidied once again by the end of the month.

FRIDAY... hopefully will be a slower paced day to finish up cleaning around my easy chair.  I have a few things to do so I can clean up the Living room.  I am getting the furniture shuffle fever once again.  Wonder if this will take place.  Think it's a SPRING THING that gets in my blood and I have to do something about it.  Think cabin fever is getting to me.  I NEED SUNSHINE and warmer temps.

Source was internet

Officially SPRING will come on the 20th, but I'm ready to clean NOW.  A little here and a little there.  SPRING FRESHNESS.  A 30 day challenge this month.  Each day I will work on SPRING CLEANING.

THURSDAY Day ONE.  Guest room bedding washed and dried.

FRIDAY Day TWO.  Guest room cleaned.
Bed made.
Floor swept.
Furniture dusted.
Extra items taken out of room.
Laundry sorted.  Towels and underwear to laundromat.

SATURDAY Day THREE.  Play it by ear...might be shuffling furniture.

Will make mess while shuffling.
Promise,
d

buffet

The Dining room changed as we shuffled the Sideboard across the room and placed the Buffet in front of the over sized front window that looks out onto our Porch.  Love the natural lighting that flows in to light up the room.  All in a days work.  Satisfied with the outcome.  That's our $10.oo Sideboard.

The Buffet used to sit up against this wall.  Now the wall is freed up and allows the traffic flow to walk passed the wall and take a left into our Kitchen.  Later the color of the walls will change.  We'd lay area rugs down under the Dining room table to cover the old linoleum that will go by by and be replaced by wood floors.  We'll have to see what condition the wood floor is in under the present floor.
LATER for sure.  Future thoughts.

Wishin' it was already completed, but learnin' to wait a while longer.  How do you handle the wait?
Part of Spring cleaning always has a furniture shuffle happening somewhere in our home.

Always,
~d~

Decorating On The Prairie: Spring Cleaning

Just adding a tassel to a key adds a bit of beauty.
Spring cleaning continues.  An old mirror was lowered down the wall closer to our walnut chest.
We shuffled STUFF.  Good 'ole stuff on the Prairie.

The reality of Spring cleaning and a furniture shuffle leads to our things showing up on the bed.
Where will all that stuff end up?  Hopefully dusted and placed in a different place far far away from where it was.

Happy Spring Cleaning to you!
Keeping it real,
~d~

Spring Cleaning

The weather is lovely and the windows are open letting fresh air into our old stone house.  What a glorious week-end we have had.

Spring cleaning has started with the rearranging of the dining room and major deep cleaning in the master bedroom.  Thinking about removing the matching area rugs from the bedrooms and placing them in the dining room for the time being.  The linoleum floor in the dining room will eventually be replaced, but until that time, the rugs would dress up the room and add to the formality.

At present time, the dining room table is being cleared off!!!  She's my staging place that catches everything from thrift buys, to a place for the makings of Easter baskets.  You can actually see wood.  Grins and double grins.  I placed a crystal vase with yellow daffodils and purple irises on the table and then moved them to the sideboard that is now sitting in natural lighting by the oversized window.  Like it there.

The baskets for the Grandchildren are close to being completed and in the mail.

Yard work will begin in April.

For today, my sweet hubby is my sidekick.  He's the muscle around here!  I only partially have a heave ho in me to shuffle and lift heavy items.  Thank you Sweetheart for all the help.

Better go sip some coffee and then onto today's cleaning.

God bless and thanks for stopping by.
Now I must get back to the heave ho,

THE SONG OF SOLOMON Chapter 2: verses 11, 12 and 13
11) For lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;
12) The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;
13) The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell.  Arise my love, my fair one, and come away.

SpRiNg

At Home. Come on in. Got some good news? Won't you share with me how you are?

Still cleaning...made great headway this week-end, but have a ways to go. My Hubby is a huge helper. Huge. I sure need his help.

The spare room has become My ClOsEt and StOrAgE for a little of this and a little of that. I should be praising God that we have this room to use! Eventually this room will return to a actual bedroom with antique oak furniture. The furniture is partially in storage, partialy in this room and that. I know where the pieces of furniture will go once we get that far!!!

Oh Happy Day when it gets that way. The present bathroom will return to a closet and a bedroom into a new old fashioned bathroom. After this happens, the spareroom will be decorated and be a bedroom again. O momma...this will be awesome.

This has been a tough challenge for me. As our house morphs into something different than it is...I have to pray, shed some tears, blogggggg, search decorating magazines, pop some vitamins and sigh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Redoing a house isn't something new to me, but this assignment here in this old rock house has had challenges like never before.

At a snails pace we are going through
the spare room STUFF. We were successful at
getting the extra stuff out of the room, but will take some muscle sorting through all of it.

I went through my clothing that hangs on racks and put into color families. Like it! Hubby repaired the clothing rod that's in the actual bedroom closet. His clothing hangs in this small closet. Went through his clothing. This helps me take inventory of his clothing and knowing what needs replaced. He has his casual clothing, casual work clothes and dressier things. Looks like he needs some more crisp white shirts and some newer slacks. His shoes need to find their way back into the bottom of the closet.

Tomorrow I will be relocating blankets and sheets from the spare room. I will be unloading video
tapes and movies from the downstairs wardrobe and using this piece
of furniture to hold bedding. The video tapes will go into storage boxes for now. Have plans for my dolls that are in vinyl boxes. Poor babies...some of these dolls have been in boxes for three years. Can't hardly believe it.

It's almost like moving again shuffling things and finding different places to hold order. So, it's kind of like musical chairs figuring where to put this and that until things are placed elsewhere.

We've got a plan and it's the waiting for it all to happen that is a struggle. Yuck.
Until it's finished...I need a staff to order
around to do this and that and that again.
Not gonna happen...sniff sniff. I izz the maid!

As we morph into a finished product...I hope I can post some pictures that show the progress. Until that happens...I hope to stay strong and productive. Monday, I will be doing paperwork and babysitting little Junior Miss.
She's growing and I think it's alright to go from calling her toddler to calling her lil Junior Miss. She's like sunshine. Grandchildren are bright spots in my life.

Not to bore you all with spring cleaning, but it helps me stay focus talking about it. Hope you have some tips to enlighten me with.
Love you all and wish I were done with this SpRiNg ClEaNiNg. Can you believe it, Spring is coming this week! Let it happen.

Gentle Spring Cleaning

Warm wishes to you in Blogland! Gentle Spring Cleaning begins today with hopes of having noticeable results by Monday. Here's the plan and I pray it becomes a reality that needs to manifest right before our eyes.

The spareroom became a catch-all and needs completely reorganized.

So with that in mind,

1) I will carry most of the clutter from the spare room, place it in the master bedroom and hallway to decide what to keep, pitch, sale or give away

2) Clean the ceiling fan

3) Sweep the floor

4) Wipe down and wash the windows

5) Organize the closet
6)Carry items back into spare room and organize.

Awe...this will be like a breath of fresh air.

It will be awhile before the ceiling is tinned, a light fixture bought and installed, the walls are painted/wall papered, floor repaired, different curtains hung, oak furniture placed in room.

The furniture is in waiting.

Write your plan down and run with it!

May we make quick work of it and call it done.

Have a refreshing week-end and don't forget the Time Change.

So glad you stopped by.
God Bless us real good!

~Deanna~

PS somewhere along the way...I'll take the time to sip on a cold rootbeer...which is my tonic.
Pity I can't get into that dress anymore, but if the hat thingy fits...I'll wear it along with the apron! grins...it's a joke.

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

“Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.”

I shall not die,
but live, and declare

its rooms are filled with rare

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
