I can only imagine if I had had storage tubs before 1990. All the relocating we did, it would have made the moving so much easier to have tubs to fill with our belongings. One relocation, I did have plastic tubs that were stored in a unit where the rain water puddled on the lids which prevented damage to items inside of tub. It was a blessing for sure to have plastic tubs this go round.
I continue working at getting better organized in this house that we have lived in for 3 and a half years. Thinning out is ongoing. I took a bag full of clothing to Goodwill. It actual felt great to part with these items. Goodwill's set up is very functional as you drive up to their back door and huge bins are waiting for you to place your items in. If you don't want a statement for taxes, you drop off your donation and drive away.
As I sort through things in the basement, I will decide what goes next. I have no problem bringing HOME more items to use. This is fun. SO I have no problem falling in love with stuff. For someone who does not want to be a hoarder, I have to turn loose of stuff as I go along in LIFE. Thankfully, I can say NO to more stuff. It's easier the older I am. Decorating styles change. None of this can go with us as we exit this world when death happens. Things should be used every day.
After watching hoarder programs it helps me to dive into cleaning up our HOME. The hoarding starts somewhere along the way and has to be dealt with or one gets in over their heads with THINGS that need a different filing system. A serious filing system. SERIOUS FILING SYSTEM.
Hubby uses a cardboard box to store our large Christmas tree. The box has seen better days. Still we are using it as we haven't come across a 'cutesy' storage box, tub or bag large enough to support the weight of this tree. So the original cardboard box will have to do and does.
To me when the Christmas decorations disappear, I think it's blah looking around here. It doesn't last long as the rooms return to their norms and on I go returning to general cleaning and such. Within a week I am all 'bettah'. Snowmen are showing up soon to meet some valentines. Thinking about SPRING and of course EASTER.
This full first week of the new year was a full one.
Sunday...two Grands had birthdays. A friend died of Covid.
Monday...Christmas clean up. Shopped.
Tuesday...gave Hubby a much needed haircut. He prepared for medical procedure. Christmas clean up.
Wednesday...Medical procedure, time out shopping, home to watch the counting of the electoral votes seeing chaos. Stunned. The impact of this storming was sobering.
Thursday...stunned about the Capitol. Shopped.
Friday...Shopped.
Saturday...Christmas decorations going bye-bye. Cleaning. Sigh.
