| 1888 Doc Bushong |
Oh my....Bushong is a real place! Had to look this one up on Wikipedia. Interesting history. This tiny spot on the map was named after a baseball player. 2010 Census stated about 34 people lived there. There were 34 people, 12 households, and 10 families residing in the city.
I wonder if a person wanted to get away from it all, if this might be a place to live???
The city, originally a whistle-stop of the Missouri Pacific Railroad, was first named Weeks. The city took its present name in 1886 in honor of St. Louis Browns catcher Albert J. "Doc" Bushong. Following the Browns' victory in the 1886 World Series over the Chicago White Stockings, the Missouri Pacific Railroad honored several of the St. Louis players by naming some of their depots after the players. Bushong had played every game in the series and was at bat in Game Six, when the winning run scored by stealing home. The city of Bushong is the only one still carrying its name from the 1886 World Series.[8]
During the Cold War, Bushong was the location of one of the first generations of nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missiles. The site, active from 1961–1965, was part of the 548th Strategic Missile Squadron.[9]
So I don't think this is the place to get away from it all when they've already had a nuclear-tipped intercontinental ballistic missile!!!
I'm a KANSAS NATIVE that has lived in Kansas, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Texas. At 64 years of age I had no idea that A BUSHONG, KANSAS even existed until yesterday. HA. Long story short, I took a wrong turn and ended in the fine town of BUSHONG, KANSAS. Didn't stay long as I was on my way to Emporia.
Also drove through AMERICUS, KANSAS. I'd heard of it, but never BUSHONG. It's embarrassing to say that I was going to EMPORIA by hook and crook of country roads AND got lost in the country. Very scenic drive though. Enjoyed the sights I saw.
EVENTUALLY
I made my destination without a proper map and a sense of humor.
I was meeting up with two of my siblings in Emporia to visit about our MOM. She had a doctor's appointment and we thought we'd group together and get on the same page with one another about Mom's future wishes. I not only got to see some of the Kansas sights, but I got to see my Mom, a brother and a sister.
We visited as siblings getting informed about Mom's wishes, had Lunch at KFChicken and then chatted with our Mom about her wishes. Did a little shopping at the DOLLAR TREE then drove HOME without a glitch.
The weather was turning off COLD expecting midnight SNOW. As of this morning we have not had this snow. JUST COLD.
Hubby was HOME fixing Goulash. Twas delicious and so nice of him...and I fell asleep in my recliner exhausted from travel, family meeting and more travel.
At the end of the week I'll have some lab work done and finally see where my TSH levels are since lowering my medicine dose 6 weeks ago. Will be good to know where it's at. My energy level is slightly better so I think my TSH numbers are at a better level for me. Good guess. When TSH levels are so suppressed it became difficult to walk, talk and make sense....it's like walking through molasses when up and about. Physical signs begin to manifest elsewhere in one's body such as joint pain and aches unknown to mankind.
The backs of my feet/heels have felt like they were bruised. It's been unusually painful making simple walking very difficult to endure. Since the middle of the month of AUGUST I have battled with this PAIN.
Later it would be revealed to me that I have an extremely suppressed TSH level with a extremely low Vitamin D level. My HEALTH WALK continues. Take better vitamins and rest until levels rise. Active mental activity with planning and slow as she goes movement, but movement. Slow stretches.
JEEPERS! Mister Wilson, this is exhausting keeping up with all of this stuff.
SIMPLIFICATION is the name of the game.
God bless,
d
