Having Tea With Beatrix Potter

It was a very special time to have a private setting with Actress Linda Mackey, 

a member of the International Beatrix Potter Society that portrays Beatrix.  

She shares events of Beatrix's day and manners techniques 

that every polite young Lady should know about and exhibit.

Lil Miss actually sipped (not slurped) mint tea from a tiny tea cup.

She enjoyed it so much she had three cups of it.

Pinky finger up.

Miss Potter shares her stories and skills with large groups of children, at private parties and  

one on one like we experienced this day.

Nice to know some social skills in this day and age

at Home Haven.  

You just never know when Neighbors will come a callin'.

Room 205

 

So let your light shine.

 We did.  

The little lamp was lit.

 We took a much needed rest in Room 205 at the 1886 Historical Elgin Hotel 

in Marion, Kansas.

REFRESHING.

I am a 56 year old woman that still has dreams and thoughts that take me elsewhere from my day to day adventures.  I am to be myself and not covet another's lifestyle, life, relationship, position or belongings.  God desires that I lean on Him.  He has great and mighty things for me.  I simply have to ask Him and He will show me.  There are surprises lined up for me and there are surprises lined up for you. 

How could a sickly little girl from Liberal, Kansas that thought telephone poles were trees that grew up sharing a small bedroom in the basement of a tiny house with her older sister, ever stay at such a GRAND place?  We're all grown up now and she stayed in another suite the same time I stayed at the Elgin.  Fun!  So much better than the basement.

Oh, the joy.

Decorating On The Prairie: Dimly Lit

Before the hustle and bustle of a busy day started, 

I walked around in our dimly lit home 

and Decorating On The Prairie took on a different meaning.  

Natural lighting came through the windows.   

The house was quiet. 

Taking some time to be alone in the quiet of the morning.

 How you view your life and home affects how you decorate.

Do you take time to think about what activities take place in each room?

Are these rooms decorated to encourage a mood?
Encourage an atmosphere or generate emotions of comfort, 
safety, or peace?  A refuge from the world?

It's really easy to get so busy that one doesn't slow down to think.

May you find some alone time.

Even if it's only for a few minutes.

How do you want to furnish a room?

How do you want to use a room?
How do you achieve what is needed in your home?

Be sure to brighten it with a smile and a kind word.

Warm wishes warms the heart and home.

buffet

The Dining room changed as we shuffled the Sideboard across the room and placed the Buffet in front of the over sized front window that looks out onto our Porch.  Love the natural lighting that flows in to light up the room.  All in a days work.  Satisfied with the outcome.  That's our $10.oo Sideboard.

The Buffet used to sit up against this wall.  Now the wall is freed up and allows the traffic flow to walk passed the wall and take a left into our Kitchen.  Later the color of the walls will change.  We'd lay area rugs down under the Dining room table to cover the old linoleum that will go by by and be replaced by wood floors.  We'll have to see what condition the wood floor is in under the present floor.

LATER for sure.  Future thoughts.

Wishin' it was already completed, but learnin' to wait a while longer.  How do you handle the wait?

Part of Spring cleaning always has a furniture shuffle happening somewhere in our home.

a red room

This RED ROOM is the present Lobby of the 1886 Historical Elgin Hotel located in Marion, Kansas.

Touring this beautiful Bed and Breakfast in May 2011 caused a yearning to stay at this lovely place.  
My Husband and I decided to lodge here in April 2012.

We had a wonderfully relaxing time while at the Elgin.

I want to go back.

This Historic Hotel is a diamond in a very small town.

A TREASURE.  

High ceilings, red walls and the Lobby's furnishings makes for a welcoming entrance.

Case study...I really like this room 

and would decorate my 'ole house the same way if I could.

Think I will file this one and see when I can pull it out of my hat.
