My darling daughter posed for me on our porch.

As I went through older photos, I came across this one 

and thought it was a decent one to share again.

Not for throw back Thursday.  Just because I liked it.

Liked the subject matter, lighting and environment.

From a few years ago when our porch was in sad shape.

Still like the pics.

Spring is on her way.

Better run.

The tub is calling my name.

Coffee In My Cream

Admitting that I am slowing down.  Not sure if I can blame it all on aging, or the medicine I'm on or the fact that I have NO thyroid and not sleeping the best.  Hubby checked my blood sugar level for me this morning and I was a tad bit high for fasting.  Yesterday morning and today when I sat on the sofa to have coffee, I was groggier than normal.  Felt like I was drugged. Not good.  So I asked Husband if he'd check my sugar level.  I'll have to keep an eye on this.  sigh.

It's the week-end!

How this week has flown.

We had some gorgeous Spring-like weather  with more to come. 
HOPEFULLY this week-end.

A wonderful way to inch into what lies ahead 

for us on the prairie.

Lil Miss recovered from the flu.

Her make-up work from school was a stunner.

She went to school for one day without a fever,

stayed HOME the next day due to headache and stomach pain.

She rested.

We worked on her HOMEWORK.

I told her to pretend she was the teacher and made light of her HOMEWORK.

She completed 27 pages of work.  27.  27.

There was more to do.

When she comes HOME after being at school, 

she has a snack, stretches and gets PLAY time.

I did the same with my own children when they were growing up.

My Oklahoma Grandchildren are having a time now with flu, 

strep, etc.  PRAYING.

Influenza A

The dreaded FLU hit

our neck of the woods.

One of those strains that has morphed.   

Daughter was told 

that Lil Miss had Influenza A.  

A nose swabbing determined the diagnoses.  

Her temp had been 103 and climbing.  

Quick...what do you do?

Children's Tylenol altered with Ibuprofen.  

Give age appropriate dose every 4 hours.

Cold wet wash cloth to the back of the neck and across the forehead.

Lukewarm bath.  If they get the shivers, wrap them in a blanket afterwards.

Dress in cool clothing to help cool off body.

Cold wet socks wrapped around the ankles.

Drink fluids.

Eat popsicles/freeze pops.

Pray.

Rest.

If coughing, use cough drops.

Encourage child to cough into elbow.  

Children's cold meds will help.

Disinfectant wipes to wipe down the phone, door knobs, light switches, 
computer keyboards, handrails, bathroom fixtures, etc.

Keep person away from others as best you can.  

As long as they have a fever, they are contagious.

Lil Miss has ate oyster crackers, jello salad, popsicles/freeze pops and drank 7-up.

She's doing better, but needs lots of rest and fluids.

I Took The Day OFF

The week-end was a time for resting.  
On Saturday, I had a supper date with my husband and took it easy.  ATE Salad. 

Cranberry Apple Chicken Salad

I will try to make this one at HOME.

Grilled seasoned chicken breast, glazed pecans, apple slices and dried cranberries
atop a bed of spring mix. Served with balsamic vinaigrette. 

We went to my favorite thrift shoppe.  Glad we went before the next arctic blast blows in.  Purchased a nice piece of glass.  A wooden box of old silver plated utensils for $12 plus 15% off sale.

My heart leaped a tad on this one.  

Table service for 6.  In excellent shape.  

How to set an attractive table!

When's the last time you used a salt cellar

not to mention one for pepper?

Like never.

Sunday I stayed in my housecoat the entire day.  I truly took the day off.  My Husband did laundry and cooked!  He told me later that he would not make it as housewife.  I told him that he didn't have the hips for it.  grins.  He was a sweetheart and got the laundry caught up. 

No…I don't think so.

I will get dressed today and see what I should do.  Might be iced in.  Hoping my husband can stay home and work from here instead of driving on slick roads.

Monday night has become our television night where we have supper and watch Downton Abbey on Roku.  We shall see what happens to these people.

While looking in the Walmart Clearance area, I found 2 sheer panels for $5 a package.  When I checked out, they were $3.  Hoping to stitch sheer balloon shades for the bump-out in the Parlour. It's been a while since I sewed.  Hoping they turn out.  This will be such an economically way to add a little charm to our HOME.    

I've left the Christmas greenery on the stair rail.  I still need some embellishment to warm my thoughts.  This cold weather is chilling  me out.  It's been so cold I cannot think of much else.  

Next on my list of things to do is to sew buttons back on my husband's work dress slacks. Praying I get this task done before he RETIRES and outgrows these garments.  Winter project is to thin out paper and tidy the 'junque' room.  Peaches sounds really tasty about now.  Peaches.  sigh.  I need to dust all over the house again.  We have plenty of Kansas dust around here even in the Winter.  Spot cleaning it is.  

If they can do it, so can I.

Christmas has come and gone.

My Folks joined us for the day and I was fortunate enough to take a picture of them 
that I thought was actually pretty good.

Dad has grown into a very quiet man these days.

Catching him smiling was a blessing 

and treat.

Mom is about the same.

Praise the Lord.

Decorating On The Prairie: Photo Gallery

Took awhile.  I had a plan.

 After the family room stairwell walls 

were covered with beaded board 

it would be a great place to hang family pictures.

It took years.

Gulp.

The area requires more finishing touches.

Not quite there yet.

*For now some pics are in the Gallery.

 The Stairwell has a sharp right turn leading upwards to the second floor.  If things go as plan, the beaded board will continue in the upstairs hallway where more pictures will hang.

I've gotten older waiting for projects to be completed.

While the waiting is difficult to endure,

'tis best to find things to occupy one's time.

It makes the waiting not quite so difficult?

I am human and have times where 

the wait is frustrating.

Jibber Jabber

Howling winds are outdoing themselves today.  It is bitter cold here in our part of the world which has plenty of character.  I am more than thankful that I can stay inside and dream of how to decorate my HAVEN.

Reviewing the TO DO LIST in my head keeps my thought life cob web free.  I cannot say as much for the actual cob webs that seem to be comfortable inside our HOME on the prairie.  What does the Bible says about cob webs in the palaces?  Even these fine places are hand picked for weaving webs.   

Proverbs 30:28 The spider takes hold with her hands, and is in kings' palaces.

Blessed to have a warm place to call HOME.  Food on the shelf, electricity, running water, comfortable bed to sleep in, a loving Husband and Family.  During the dreaded winter months, I confess I have to deliberately focus on things that bring me joy.  The weather seems to tempt me to get grumpy.  Focus on goods things and bring to remembrance that this cold season will pass.  SPRING will be here soon.   

I am chilled and need to stay bundled up with socks on my feet.  Seldom do I wear socks even in the Winter.  Today I surrender ALL and slipped some on. 

I made a hair appointment with myself.  After I pry away from the computer, I will take a warm shower, wash my hair and trim it all by myself.  She needs shaped and I am willing.  If I mess up too badly, I'll ring my beautician and cry.

Feeding Your Family For Less

~Turkey and Egg Noodle Dish~

Feeding your family for less can be a reality.
Last November when the grocery store 

ran a special for BUY A HAM 

GET A FREE TURKEY, I did.

  

We ate HAM on CHRISTMAS EVE 

and TURKEY on CHRISTMAS DAY.

A few days later the left-overs went to good use.  

Diced HAM stirred into scrambled eggs tasted so good, 

but it was the TURKEY that was a hit.  

Left-over TURKEY made it's way into a EGG NOODLE DISH.

~Turkey and Egg Noodles~

Egg noodles were boiled in chicken broth.

ADD cooked Turkey seasoned with Thyme and Rosemary,

stir in one can each of Cream of Celery and Cream of Mushroom Soup.

Warm and serve.

Life just got a little easier and we dined for less.  

The left-overs went fast,

Hubby on his 60th Birthday surrounded by his children

SUGAR-FREE Chocolate Bundt Cake 

with sugar-free chocolate frosting drizzled 
with coconut pecan frosting.

I did my best to find a sugar-free German Chocolate cake 
at the market.
Came up empty handed.
Improvised.
Made one myself.

We had a BATMAN THEME party.

It is an inside joke.

It's not funny to be bitten by a bat and go through rabies shots.

Husband was bit on the top of the head a few years ago which earned him the nick-name Batman.

While he was in the powder room
we tricked him and told him that he was wanted on the phone.  

HURRY!  A long distance phone call from Alaska!  

NO TIME to comb his hair.  He fell for it and hurried into the room to see candles.

SURPRISE!!!

BATMAN WAS THERE.

 Cake, Ice-cream, smiles and well wishes.

Opening gifts with happiness to celebrate 
the big 6-0.

ALL IN GOOD FUN.
