Hubby and I chatted about a piece of furniture we saw at the THRIFT SHOPPE. A HANDSOME HIGHBOY. I've wanted one for a loooooonnnnnggggg time but they were way out of our price range. This piece needed some work done to it so the price was reasonable. We could make it fit within our tight budget.
The piece had busted feet and messed up legs on it needing the MASTER's TOUCH to pull it back from the DUMP. HE looked BAD. Upper part looked great, but as you moved toward the floor the feet and legs were seriously damaged. SERIOUSLY, but the price was good. If the piece had been with decent feet and legs it would have sailed out of the THRIFT SHOP long ago. HE had sat there on their sale floor sadly squeezed in between more furniture waiting for someone to give him a working over.
Decided the price was right and Hubby believed he could repair the broken and damaged legs/feet. We'd have a nice piece to add to our estate for little money. BUT how would we get it HOME without a truck rental?
The bottom part of the Highboy would be placed in the back seat of our car and the larger part put into the trunk. Secured it and away we could go.
Slept on it. Yes, we want it.
After my doctor's appointment in Manhattan, I drove over to the Topepka THRIFT SHOP to purchase the HIGHBOY. It was still there. BOUGHT IT.
Walmart stop and then back HOME to rest until HUBBY got HOME from work. We went back to TOPEKA to pick up HIGHBOY.
Within an hour we had the piece of furniture secured in our car. Slow drive HOME on a cool evening while admiring the wide open spaces of the FLINT HILLS. Beautiful.Hubby unloaded the HIGHBOY. I was the designated DRIVER and when I got HOME I just had to hold the house door open as he wheeled the piece into the house. He planned to work on the feet the next evening and did. Looking great. He did a super job on the repairs.
Finally the HIGHBOY was assembled back together and placed in our HOME location. LOOKS WONDERFUL in our living room with traditional furniture.
