Hi! You know I love you and enjoy hearing from you.
I use to say I could take ideas from a multi-million dollar estate and apply the decorating elements to my humble abode. Still think this way, but as time has passed...I'm more interested in making my home a welcoming place instead of just a pretty environment to live around. AND decorating ideas can come from all sorts of places.
No matter what economic group you live within, Design and Decorating is all around us. Might as well enjoy it!!! Being creative is not limited to the economy you live with...lack of creativity can be a state of mind that you can change.
My posts will NOT be FANCY or OVERLY SoPhIsTiCaTeD. Just plain 'ole simple and hopefully interesting as I show you around my Prairie Home that's located in a small KANSAS town nestled in the Flint Hills. HOME SWEET HOME!
Home Haven is about 126 years old. She's a two story house made out of native limestone. Hard wood floors, high ceilings and a multitude of windows make their place inside. Her stone walls are about 22" thick with plaster on the interior. She rest on three lots. Lots of tender loving care is needed to spruce her up. We're working on this a little at a time.
Today we're going to venture into the upstairs quarters of Home Haven that's rarely seen. She's in the throws of being RE-DECORATED. There's DUST BUNNIES up there. I'll be showing her off when the decorating gets further along, but for now.......this is it Babee.
Living in small quarters that's going through SLOW MOTION
re-decorating can have some challenges that make having a SENSE OF HUMOR and much prayer necessary! amen? Can I have a witness?!?
What do you want in a Young Child's Bedroom? THE BASICS...a place to sleep, rest, dream, play in and think, get dressed, store personal clothing and belongings. A place to relax. A place to call your own and be at HOME in. A SAFE and quiet place.
This particular L-shaped bedroom is quite small measuring about 8' by 13' and has a radiator and small closet. There are two windows. Ceiling fan with light. There's a bed, small children's rocking chair and oak chest of drawers. The floor is made of yellow pine and has an area rug on it.
Presently Lil Miss's Bedroom is morphing towards becoming PINK. She's 4. From crib to youth bed to larger bed. Her Youth Bed has just gone away and she is sleeping in a Queen size bed that recently got a new comforter with matching pillow shams. She LOVES it!!!
Little petite roses on the comforter and shams. Light colored sheets will be next on the agenda.
The cotton comforter and shams came from Aldi's and cost under $30.00.
For a 4 year old the light weight comforter is an easy covering to use to learn how to make a bed.
The walnut headboard was free and my sweet hubby refinished it a few years ago.
THIS IS WHERE WE'LL START.
Different Bed.
Different Bedding.
Next comes different Window Treatments.
Beaded Board installed on walls and painted.
A change of color for the room.

Some personal artifacts make a room welcoming and give ownership.

Use lighter colors in small rooms to get a larger feeling to the space.
When the size of bed changes, the obvious is at hand. Different bedding is needed. This is a great place to start with in decorating a child's room...the bedding. Take the colors and/or design that's in the bedding and enhance the room with a theme. Since PINK is the color of choice, we'll continue down this path.
Different curtains will show up on the windows soon. Pics to follow.
The plaster walls are in the process of being covered with beaded board to add a different texture that will be painted PINK. I really like beaded board!
Pictures will be added to the walls along with shelves and hooks.
Personal artifacts and items are already about the room.
