JUMPING JACK
THE COMMON COLD usually runs its course in 7 to 10 days. Mine may take longer. Have Bronchitis which really isn't the common cold, is it? Not fair, but hey that's the way the cookie crumbles. I wouldn't mind a cookie just about now.
https://tasty.co/recipe/the-best-chewy-chocolate-chip-cookies
IF I HAD ANOTHER NICK NAME IT MIGHT BE COOKIE.
DAY 9 of coughing and having stuffed up nose, etc. This is by far the worst day for me. DayQuil and lots of fluids, Vitamin C, D3 and Zinc, rest plus nutrition. Hardest day for me since I started slightly coughing on Monday, May 26th. It has progressed. Today, I feel drained and coughing harder. I shall take it easy and be resting. Shucks.
Read that pineapple juice and black elderberry juice are super good for combatting bronchitis. On the look out for elderberry juice. Hubby ran to the store for me and purchased some pineapple in a can with juice for us to drink. I was absolutely down and out and needed to stay HOME to rest.
I asked out loud, "Why am I so run down?" Hubby very innocently ask, "Brain damage?" I laughed. He has difficulty hearing...so I think. Sometimes he is spot on even when he cannot hear.
I ask, "What did you think I asked?" He apologizes with saying his ears are ringing so bad and he doesn't have his hearing aides in.
After taking some Musinex DM...I almost feel human again! Wish I had taken some of this earlier on. Think it would have helped.
Nutrition is a must ALL THE TIME. Nutritionally DENSE FOOD is a must ALL THE TIME. It seems like I cannot stay on track like I need to be. I'm alright with not drinking coffee or soda. In fact this isn't an issue for me these days. It's wanting something sweet for my sweet tooth. Perhaps the body and mind are alerting me that I am not eating enough fruit?
Looking over some info I saved and of course Jack LaLanne comes up. I had snapped shot his meal suggestions which I think are very good and I can follow his suggestions. This morning for breakfast I had 1 piece of Killer Dave's multi-grain bread toasted topped with honey, 3 soy-free eggs, 1/2 cup of fruit (blueberries and cherries). Water to drink. Perhaps I should add almond milk. I'll add this later when I go get a STEAMER. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
JACK's MEALS go something like this:
Breakfast
1 piece of whole grain toast with honey
fresh fruit or fresh fruit juice
eggs or meat or both
black coffee or skim milk
LUNCH
A large raw vegetable salad
Low-fat cottage cheese, meat or fowl
SUPPER
Large raw vegetable salad
2 or more undercooked vegetables
meat or fowl
fresh fruit and yogurt
A very good guide for meal planning made easy. A NEW ATTEMPT TO GET HEALTHIER HERE I COME.
I watched a youtube video with Jack with the interviewer saying that the JUMPING JACK was named after him. I guess I didn't know this. Although he played no part in inventing the exercise, the late fitness expert Jack LaLanne was given credit for popularizing it in the United States. LaLanne used the jumping exercise during routines he promoted in decades of television fitness programming.
As I recover from this dreaded bronchitis, I pray that I can get back at it making LIFE a simpler state of affairs.
ON THE HOME FRONT: Breakfast was what we are calling THE JACK, fruit, toast and eggs.
Cherries and Blueberries, Killer Dave's Multi-grain Toast with Butter and Honey, and Soy-free Eggs. Water again.
Lunch was organic Pacific Roasted Red Peppers and Tomato Soup. I splurged a little and had some saltine crackers, but get this...I squirted mustard on the crackers. Yummers? Mustard is good for fighting infections like Bronchitis. Okay.
Feeling better...Praise the LORD.

HEALTH HELP
WEDNESDAY IT IS! Earlier this week, we decided to stay away from TOPEKA this week. Stay HOME. Okay with that, but other things happened to change our plans. We'd go to Manhattan instead. BEAUTIFUL WEATHER made the shopping day on Monday so enjoyable. Needed a few things like almond milk. Stopped by the grocery store which is under remodeling. Interesting changes they have made through-out the store.
I was checking out their ORGANIC SECTION also their Health Market where their vitamins are stocked. Had to make a trip to MENARDs as well. Delightful day, but on our way HOME, hubby's cell phone rings with a hysterical sister on the other line. My MOM fell earlier in the day breaking her hip and was being transferred to Newton's Hospital for surgery.
We went HOME making a multitude of telephone calls to the Hospital, back and forth to siblings and messages to family. After Mom was settled in her hospital room, I phoned and chatted with her telling her that I'd be over on Tuesday.
When I arrived at the Hospital, she was in some pain. Stayed with her throughout the day. When I was told that she'd have surgery at 4, there was talk that they'd see how she was doing as her blood oxygen wasn't as high as needed. The time slot for surgery was moved to 7pm. She was wheeled into surgery at 7:30 and out by 5 after 9. Visited with the surgeon, went back to her room and waited for her. By 10 she was in her room. Stayed a little while then we said our good-byes and will return later.
My brother and SIL will stay with her on Wednesday. Her blood pressure dropped this morning and she collapsed when going to a recliner. I will be checking up on her throughout the day. I am exhausted.
Hubby has a medical appointment this week which he has waited her 6 months. So we do not want to miss this as it is very important to visit about his NHL. Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma isn't a picnic. I continue to read up on it as to what to do.
Next thing will be to increase physical activity for the both of us. Continue to eat better and take nutrients, vitamins, minerals, etc.
When it comes to health, I have had to relearn much especially about the American way of eating. I was brought up in it and have had health issues that developed that I believe can be eased with a different way of eating and THINKING. As I clear out JUNK in this house, I believe that clearing out junk in my thought life needs to go hand in hand with memorizing some scripture, thinking on good things, eating good things, wearing good things.
OTC stands for Over The Counter. I am weaning myself off of OTC sleep aids. A week now I have not taken them and am getting sleepy in the evenings and sleeping through the night!!! Hallelujah.
Last Spring, The doctor asked me to go off Metoprolol that I had been on for years.
About a month ago I went off of OTC Omeprazole for indigestion. Since changing my diet and losing weight, I am doing well without this med.
That's three meds within the last 11 months. That's fantastic for me.
I continue to work at improving my health. SO many meds have bad side effects. After I read that long term use of OTC Sleep Aids contributes to dementia and memory loss, I decided...I need to stop using these as I have used them for years. Occasional use is alright to take, but a daily basis for umpteen years is a NO NO. Many drugs contribute to blood sugars rising, elevated cholesterol and obesity. I'm guilty of all three. Blood sugars are up, bad cholesterol present, obesity needs to say bye-bye.
AS FOR EXERCISING... I walked about 20 minutes yesterday in the out of doors. I confess, I have not exercised to my JACK LALANNE VIDEOS this past year. I was reading up on his wife Elaine who turns 96 this month. I wanted to see how she's doing and what she continues to do in her health journey.
I am still so impressed with JACK. He died in 2011, I think at the age of 96. He truly did some magnificent things during his life. I will return to checking out his nutrition aspect of things and exercise.
I'll walk through the videos to start out with. THIS WEEK, video number 1!!! Elaine can be checked out on facebook. Elaine LaLanne.
AFTER SEEING SOME PICS OF JACK...I thought who needs a gym when you have a sturdy chair and ottoman. grins. Jack was the KING of practical exercise.
Welp, I had best get after the chores. I continue shredding old papers, going through boxes and shuffling furniture when I have the time and energy.
LIFE IS SHORT. Live wisely.

Hi. MY NAME IS DEANNA AND I'M A CARB ADDICT.
OUR SPRING WEATHER ARRIVED. Beautiful and lovely weather. Taking it all in. After the wintery conditions we had just two weeks ago with the arctic blast, this is the complete opposite. Freezing temps -21 to 70 degrees today. This is what I call SPRING even with it not being legally Spring on the calendar until the 20th.
I'll be walking this afternoon. Then a shower. Paperwork. More laundry. Studying. Cleaning out the linen closet, refolding the extra bedding. Week-end movie after supper. Rest.
I have come to the understanding that I am a carb addict when it comes to eating. The selection of food choices is heavy on the carbs. Portion control is changing. Eating vegetables is a must, but even with veggies, some have more carbohydrates then others. Root vegetables that grow underground have more carbs then above ground veggies. Colored veggies have more carbs than green vegetables. Such as green peppers have less carbs than yellow, red and orange.
I am changing. I have to. I want to. I am.
With having no thyroid at all, I became hypothyroid. Over the last ten years, I have gained over 40 pounds. It's fairly common to gain weight after having the thyroid removed and most doctors don't think twice about it because the text books says this happens. It's not nice to be the one gaining the weight. Well, doc I'm gaining weight. Advice: Eat less and exercise. I will. This is what I read would be said. No mention of staying on top of hormone health.
MY FITNESS PAL has a place on it that you can record the foods you eat. I started using this.
my fitness pal (dot) com
But in the mean time, I'll eat differently. Less carbs, more vegetables, some fruit, less dairy, less grain, more lean meat, water. When I eat popcorn and nuts, I'll pop one puff or one nut in my mouth at a time instead of a handful. Chew slower. Eat less. Avoiding soda pop. No coffee for now.
I'll eat differently. Aim for no GMO or genetically engineered foods. Hormone free milk. Organic range-free eggs. Hormone free Grass fed beef. Less pork. Avoid soy. Avoid 'natural flavors' which have chemical additives. Avoid high-fructose corn syrup. Hidden sugars be gone. Hidden chemicals be gone.
I'm aiming for my plate to have less carbs on it. Half the plate covered with skinny veggies then the starchy veggies on a fourth of the plate and the protein on the other fourth. The fruit on a different plate for dessert. I'll start eating the food that has the least amount of calories first, then more onto the next lowest calories ending with the food that has the most calories, leaving the fruit to be a dessert.
I end my day with organic 2% milk. Maybe I ought to start my day with it as well. Okay. Calcium.
Breakfast as of late has been 8 ounces of V8. Today I added two soft boiled eggs. Maybe tomorrow I'll add a piece of buttered toast and a glass of 2% milk. Water in between meals as a snack. Yogurt with fruit.
Sample Breakfast:
4 ounces of 2% organic milk
8 ounces of V8. Note to self: Read up on ingredients in V8. Need to do own juicing to avoid 'natural flavors' that are in V8. Natural flavors have chemical additives.
2 soft boiled eggs
2 pieces of buttered toast
OR
4 ounces of 2% organic milk
8 ounces V8
small bowl of oatmeal
small yogurt
OR
A Smoothie.
Sample Snack:
Cup of cottage cheese sprinkled with a few crumbled nuts and 6 blueberries. Water.
OR
Small yogurt with fruit mixed into it. Water.
OR
Handful of mixed nuts. Water.
OR
Small yogurt. Water.
OKAY. I'm off to a great start.
True confessions. Before, I have ate enough pasta, rice and bread to feed three people at one setting. The portions have been huge. Too large of potato portions. I have ate too many carbs for too long. Way too much for one person especially me. Over did it way too many times. DO I feel better confessing this? No. I haven't gotten it off my chest sort of speak. A few moments on the lips is a lifetime on the hips??? On the hips, but it doesn't have to be for a lifetime I pray.
I will and have deliberately cut way back on the carbs in pasta, rice, bread and potatoes. Smaller portions. I can still have them, just focus on the size of the portions. I will have to change the portion sizes by making the carbs smaller and the veggies much larger portions. When having a plated meal, I will change the portions. The plate will be half full of skinny veggies instead of a quarter of the plate being salad.
This is doable and I'm willing.
REMEMBER JACK LALANNE? I do.
We ordered the JACK LALANNE SHOW COLLECTION BUNDLE PACK of videos today. I watched his television program as a child way back when. You can watch some of these on YOU TUBE. I like the fact that you can do simple exercises in your own living room with a simple chair. No need to join a gym. I may later, but for now the gym will be in my HOME in front of the tele exercising with Jack. Let you know how it goes.
Blessings.

MIDDLE OF THE WEEK
WAKING FROM A NAP where I couldn't hardly wake up from slumber. My eyes were so heavy. Way too tired. Had a busy afternoon and I guess I over did it. By the time I got HOME I fell asleep. Long nap and I may have trouble falling asleep when it's time to actually go to bed tonight. Couldn't help it, the tireds came over me like a hypnotic trance. Sleep. Sleep. Sleep.
WEDNESDAY was a very good day for me. Took a long drive in beautiful SPRING like weather. Sat at a park and took in the lovely sights of nature. Huge, mature trees sprinkled throughout the park. It will be really lovely when Spring comes. Right now the branches of the trees are naked, but still making a statement about their appearance. Here I stand. Majestic, but plain.
Off to the Bank, onto Menards for a few grocery items and other things. Treated HUBBY with a Starbucks coffee and slice of banana bread with walnuts and pecans. Stopped by a lighting store. Then to the grocery store for some meat products. Wearing a mask today was hot and uncomfortable. Maybe this is what wore me out. Don't know.
Anyways, onto our HOME and ate lunch. Then I slowly went to sleep like a contented baby.
REMEMBER JACK LALANNE? As a child in 1960, I'd watch his exercise television show at 9:30 in the morning.
Recently, I watched some old Jack Lalanne interviews. He was infectious with enthusiasm and very energetic. At the time he decided to change his life as a troublesome teenager he was a sugarholic. His mother took him to a lecture where the speaker said things that registered with Jack to change. AND change he did. From a skinny boy to a muscular man.
He died in 2011 at 96. He was still doing 2 hours of exercise the day before he passed away. If he had gone to the doctor for antibiotics, he may have lived even longer. I wondered if his wife were still alive and as far as I can tell she still is. She'd be about 94 now days. I watched an interview of hers on facebook. Interesting lady.
She still is so active at 94!
Jack was an active participant of the use of vitamins. I telephoned the Library to see if they have any of his books and they didn't. He was ahead of his time dealing with weights and vitamins. I didn't know this, but he was a chiropractor as well. Chiropractors did not have the respect from the medical society for a very long time. This I knew.
THE JUMPING JACK. Jack Lalanne was given credit for popularizing it in the United States. LaLanne used the jumping exercise during routines he promoted in decades of television fitness programming.
There is always HOPE. It's called change!

Staycation Day Six The Jack LaLanne Show - Episode 1
as she is lit about JACK LA LANNE.
I think the 1960's ways are calling MY NAME. With the fast pace lifestyles of young women and Mommas, not to mention men….I believe that a revival of being more like the *Donna Reed SHOW character* that dressed lovely, stayed HOME and liked being a WIFE, HOMEMAKER and MOMMA active in her HOME and community could be helpful. I know…i know…i know…that this was just a television program. Last evening, Hubby and I went on a drive in the cool of the evening and admired the beauty of the Flint Hills. NO camera. I should never leave HOME without it. Back we plan to go with the camera tonight. There's just something to say about GOD's BEAUTY IN NATURE.
This afternoon is SPA TIME. Into the tub I will soak and scrub my feet. After that I will wash and condition my hair. Dry and style it. Letting it grow out again to where I will wear it up on the back of my head. This year is a year of feminizing my thoughts, looks, home, etc. I like being a woman. I don't want to be a MAN. I don't want to think like a MAN. I don't want to act like a MAN. I want to be a LADY. Hello. I rest my case.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.
