ANTIQUE 1880's TEA LEAF IRONSTONE DISHES, TURKEY POT PIE AND SHOPPING FUN

ONE DAY CLOSER TO SPRING.  PREPPING FOR A COLD SNAP FRIDAY.  Possible snow in the evening.  Chilly temps for sure for a few days then I believe next week, it'll warm some.  That'll be welcomed.  It will be bitter cold over the week-end.  A extremely good time to work inside our sweet COTTAGE.

Anyways, we returned to Manhattan to finish up our shopping trip.  I can't seem to get all our shopping done in one trip anymore.  

I seriously needed a tub that the miniature Christmas tree would fit in, some marble cleaner for the bathroom vanity top, Bonami Powder for gentle cleaning the bathroom sink and tub, some goodies for our Granddaughter that is in the Hospital, a Valentine's gift for my Momma, a baby gift for a little guy's first birthday, a WOK, loaf of bread, granola, soups, Mrs. Myer's Clean Day Dish Detergent, MMCD air freshener, Brightroom non-slip velvet hangers.  

My morning started out slow.  I cleaned the floor around the toilet and the toilet itself before our outing for the day.  Tomorrow, I'll clean the marble top vanity, the sink, the wood framed mirror and lights.  As the week progresses, I'll wipe down the wood vanity and linen closet.  Then the entire tile floor will get scoured and finish up with the claw foot tub getting a good scrubbing. The deep cleaning will just about be done.  I will sanitize the tile wall around the window.  

I bathed and got ready for the day.  We stopped by our daughter's to drop off some stuff and made a bank run making sure our checking account is covered.  No bounced checks needed.  We traveled over to where we bought our car to pick up the car title we've been waiting on.  Happy we go.  Lunch was a jumbo salad and water.  TARGET was next on the agenda.   

I had ran out of velvet hangers and I knew TARGET had them, I picked up 4 packages of them. Hubby found a tree box he thought would work and when he was showing me the box, I saw a better buy on the hangers.  Cha-chang.  I can finish hanging the laundry as I ran out of hangers. Back to it.  I just might make the February deadline of being all caught up with the laundry.  A goal that is hanging over my head.  Gotta get this done.

Shopped some and as I was checking out the lady in front of me said her birthday to the clerk.  I asked her if she had said such a such date and she had.  That's also my daughter's birthday, I shared.

She told me she hadn't ever met anyone with the same birthdate.  I shared that one time I was at a Beauty Shop and the clerk was talking with a customer that she had the same birthday as the customer.  I sat there in disbelief and said that their birthday was my birthday.  So there we were in the same small room with three people having the same birthday!  The TARGET CLERK that was checking us out today, said that his twin brothers have the same birthday as mine.  I laughed.  Must be a great day for a birthday.

The lady in front of me said she's 85 as my daughter is 45.  I blinked and told her that she looks so good.  AND she does.  I wished her an early happy birthday.  

After we left TARGET, we went to MARSHALLS.  I love Marshalls.  This is where I picked up some treats for my Granddaughter who is in the hospital.  I'll box the treats up and get the box in the mail tomorrow.  She is a high risk pregnancy.  Praying for her and the lil one.  More than likely a C-Section will take place in a month making the baby a premie.  

I found a very nice housecoat for my Mom that I'll give her for Valentine's Day and a baby gift for my friend's grandson.  Tickled I found a farm set with a plastic John Deere Tractor for a one year old as this lil one's Grandpa collects John Deere Tractors.  

🦃Off to the Hardware Store and the grocery store to get a few more items for a turkey pot pie I will make.  Last night, we had a THANKSGIVING MEAL with turkey and veggies.  I used a baking bag and it was unreal how fast the 16 pound turkey baked.  With the left-overs I plan on making turkey pot pie, turkey sandwiches and just another turkey meal.  The turkey should be all gone by then.  Two more frozen turkeys await being fixed.  I figure in a month or so I will fix another turkey and repeat fixing turkey dishes.  Maybe turkey chili, tacos and sandwiches.

AFTER recalling our day, we realized that we forgot to get a new smoke detector and EMERGEN-C as planned.  Always something.  Each day a new shopping list is made.  On Friday before WINTER returns, we had better go to MENARDS and get these items.

ON THE HOME FRONT.  Slowly making progress on clearing the dining room table top.  WISH THIS WAS DONE.  After I get this done, I'll use the table to pack the antique Depression Madrid Dishes into better storage boxes instead of the cardboard boxes they are presently in.  They will be taken to the garage.

Finally got all the Tea Leaf grouped together.

Silver plated Services.

Boxing up some Silver Plated Tea/Coffee Service sets.  One of the tea pots I am more partial to is the one in the center.  Think it is super pretty.  I'll leave this one out so I can use it when entertaining myself.  I've been trying to have daily 4 o'clock tea breaks.  Today was no exception. I had a maple Long John with my tea.  I am taking a week off of the Daniel Diet before returning to it in February. I should have split the Long John with HUBBY.  Should have, but I was greedy and hungry for something sweet. 

TONITE, I did put together a Turkey Pot Pie.  It's been years since I made this dish.  It turned out SUPER GOOD if I do say so myself.  I was so pleased and Hubby loved it saying it is the BEST Turkey Pot Pie he has ever had.  Wowzer.  There are leftovers for tomorrow.

As we were in Manhattan, we saw a group of Police Officers riding bikes on the highway.  A first for me.  AND THEN when we were in town, for the first time ever, we saw a Police Riot Vehicle. I was wondering if Manhattan is gearing up for riots or something.  If this happens, I will be suspicious.  Manhattan is generally a very peaceful community.  

The over all excitement today was when my HUSBAND misplaced his phone.  Lately he has been misplacing it.  After lunch, we were on our way to TARGET and he panicked because he couldn't find his phone.  He pulled the car over and continued to look for it, so we went back to the restaurant so he could check the booth we sat at.  No phone.  He went to check the bathroom as well.  No phone.  While he was inside looking, I had looked down between my seat and the console.  There it was.  He had knocked it off the console without knowing.  I found it.  SIGH OF RELIEF.  Thank you, GOD.

He continues to misplace his phone, billfold, money card and keys.  This is getting to be a habit.  Something has got to change.  Not sure how, but he was really upset today after the phone disappeared.  He has always been a tad bit scattered brained ever since I meet him as an 18 year old guy, but as an elderly man, it is worse.  I may have to take his phone away from him?

Plans to work on laundry and clear off the table.  Shuffle some boxes and take some storage boxes to the cellar before freezing cold weather blows in.  The cars will be looked over.

Life is interesting.  

It is so important that we simplify.

AMERICAN NOSTALGIA: The 1950s Thanksgiving

Welp, It has started.  
I was out and about taking care of paying some bills 
when I saw the Grocery Store advertisement 

for buy HAM receive FREE TURKEY.  

As I stood waiting at the Customer Counter 

to pay our Kansas Gas Bill at the Grocery Store,

 I decided that I should take advantage of this sale.

I'd like to stock our freezer with three more HAMS and TURKEYS.  As I was driving HOME, I remembered that I should have one of these HAMS thinly sliced for HAM SANDWICHES during the HOLIDAYS.

Turkey Run

When we were returning to Kansas from our Missouri Vacation, we buzzed through the little town we used to live in and stopped by RETIREMENT COTTAGE as I knew I had a frozen turkey that I could fix this week so there'd be food on the table.  I placed it in the fridge to thaw for three days.  Planning on baking it Thursday.

My morning was spent in slow-motion in a housecoat as I didn't really want to leave the house.  I'd rather sit today in the peace and quiet of my HOME.  After finally getting some work accomplished I placed a HARVEST TABLECLOTH and centerpiece on the Dining room table with a sense of accomplishment toward Autumn decorating.  

This Thursday, I had exercise class to attend.  Away I went.  Afterwards a short drive pausing to do some laundry then prepared turkey in a baking bag. 

Baking bags are like one of the great wonders of the earth to me.  Simplifies the task of baking with easy clean-up catching all the juices of the turkey in the bag and baking quicker with tender outcome.  As the turkey baked, I continued doing laundry and perked a pot of coffee.  Found time to sit on the red porch swing holding a cup of fresh brewed coffee with cream.  With the wind blowing, the swing swayed with ease and I could pray out loud as no one else was within ears reach.

I value the moments when I can pray out loud feeling the nearness of God comforting my soul.  With the sky, the dried leaves twirl downward to the ground rustling along to where ever they will go.  I glanced at the two redbud trees in the front yard that my Husband planted in 2016.  One on May first, May Day and the other August 31st which is our Anniversary.

Both look healthy thriving in the Autumn season.  Redbuds tend to grow fast as it will be fun to watch these trees mature even if we don't live in the tiny RETIREMENT COTTAGE.  Perhaps we'll drive past this property years gone by and remind ourselves that we once lived there in the tiny white cottage where two redbuds continue to grow into stately trees weighted down with pink blossoms in the Spring and green leaves turning brown during Autumn time in Small Town America.  

Along side the house are yellow and rust colored mums adding hue to the foundation.  Mums in the Fall are adding splashes of color.  

Returning inside I could smell the aroma of Turkey.  Made me hungry.  Supper tonight will be like a dress rehearsal for THANKSGIVING.  As fast as the days fly I'll need to speed up my activity as to be ready for company.  Halloween is only in a few days and I have not purchased candy for the Trick-or-Treaters.  Miniature Hersey Candy Bars come to mind.  Back to SAM's I'll need to go.

Tomorrow I have hopes of dropping off another car load of boxes filled with things that must part from our Estate at the thrift store.  Will it ever come to an end?

There will be more as the week comes to an end and I have more time to shuffle cabinets that hold what needs to be in the Kitchen.  I decided to use our Anchor Hocking drinking glasses known as Boopie Glass of everyday use instead of storing them in the China Cabinet.  I will have to make room for my collection.  By the end of October I pray that the Dining room be free from boxes.

Slowly I make headway and can see a tidy room.

When I unearthed the Holiday tub holding the Autumn centerpiece, the scented candle that was inside the glass globe had stuck to the inside of the glass.  It worked like a charm to place the glass holding the candle in the freezer for the afternoon to set it free without effort.  Candles shrink from the cold and fall out of the holders.  It does work.  No need to chisel at the wax.


I'd like to take a walk in the cool of the evening wishing I had more energy.  Instead, I'll watch PBS's Poldark.

Turquoise Turkey

Turquoise Turkey...sounds like an interesting new place to eat! The actual restaurant probably would be called THE Turquoise Turkey.
Just for grins, I was wondering if I baked a turkey in a turquoise oven if it would come out turquoise???? Probably not anymore than if I washed clothing in a turquoise washing machine and the clothing came out turquoise...ha!

In reality this might happen if you had crayons in the pocket of some clothes and didn't know it when you placed them in the dryer. I know because in my younger days this happened. All my hubby's dressy work clothes were suddenly a blaze with a variety of colors when they came out of the dryer.

I thought 'HUH? OUCH. ON NO! NOW WHAT DO I DO?'

The obvious...I cried. Then had to figure out how to quickly buy some more dressy clothes. This was back in the days when we had three young children at home and the funds were so TIGHT there was little room for error. I managed to salvage SOME of the clothes, but new ones were necessary. Stiff upper lip and forge ahead.

Lesson learned...never be in such a big hurry that you don't first check the pockets before placing the clothing in the washing machine and dryer OR be careful to not place red clothing in with white underwear.

That's right. The underwear just might come out pink. Hey, it happens!

Isn't turquoise a nice color?
