KANSAS CITY VISIT, GILLHAM HOUSE, EATING AT HARVEY'S and WAITING FOR THE EARTH TO MOVE
DRIVING ACROSS THE WIDE OPEN SPACES OF THE KANSAS PRAIRIE ON OUR WAY TO KANSAS CITY was agitating early in the morning as the visibility was next to none. Heavy FOG made it very difficult to see the road in front of me making me tenser than usual. AND who needs tense? Usually I am on guard because of the other drivers speeding around me, but this time the fog was a blinding white cloud making my eyes work overtime.
A migraine started to come on. I couldn't see the pastures to the left and to the right of me. Visibility ended at the edge of the road and a short distance in front of me. I was engulfed in a mystical mist.
It doesn't seem to matter the weather conditions, there are always drivers zooming right on by at a faster than safe speed. This is troublesome as their recklessness doesn't impress me, but puts me on a higher alert.
The foggy morning traffic wasn't so threatening, but the visibility made the drive extremely challenging for this old woman behind the wheel straining to do well. I was tense, but in some weird way the hour and a half drive seemed like a dream in a romance novel. I've seen paintings with less fog and they seem to have an eloquence to them.
Walking to school in the fog was a rare occasion in my day back in Liberal, Kansas, but it was a fantasy world on those days where I couldn't clearly see as the fog was making theatre out of life. I had visions of being on the streets of London walking to my destiny where ever that was for the day. The West Junior High School building would greet me as I stepped towards it.
Now to fast forward to the present. Upon arriving to our Kansas City destination, the fog lifted. Dream over.
We had already eaten our breakfast on the road from TOPEKA before entering KC. Eating a meal from STARBUCKS fit the bill. I like their Egg and Cheese Protein Box with 2 boiled eggs, about 6 grapes, half of a sliced apple, 2 small white cheese triangles, circular piece of bread, peanut butter and packaged spices to sprinkle on the eggs. Of course we both had unsweetened Iced Green Tea in a TRENTA cup.
Sample. Mine had grapes instead of citrus.
ABOUT 460 calories for me. Just right. My conclusion is that I seem to feel better eating Breakfast than FASTING until noon or so. As I sat in the car waiting for our order, I noticed that most of their customers walking into the brick and mortar establishment were young woman who had ordered ahead of time coming back outside almost immediately carrying their cups of FANCY coffee. I suppose they all were on their way to work? Where that is, I don't know.
I ate some grapes and a couple of apple slices right away while sitting in their parking lot. The boiled eggs came after we returned to the Interstate. This box breakfast worked well for me as I drove to KC. Sipping on the tea took time.
We chatted on the way to Kansas City for the 10 o'clock appointment with a printer to get the ball rolling about a piece of artwork that my Husband has created. This is a first. We've never had prints made of any kind. A new adventure for sure. In a few days we'll return to KC to see the results for under a hundred dollars. Pray it's a good fit.
Arriving early made time to change out a tail light on the car so we went to a local auto parts store to take care of this before going to the Print Shop for the appointment. Bathroom break at HOME DEPOT. How convenient is that?
While standing for the Art appointment in an old house with overgrown greenery on the metal fence and potted plants on the large porch, I began to sweat as the front room didn't have circulating air. I could see the results of sweat beads soaking through the top of my blue dress. Feeling faint, I excused myself to return to our car where air conditioning could be felt. Satisfied, I waited for my companion to return. We left his beautiful drawing in the hands of a stranger that will see to it that the drawing will be photographed for a print.
Hubby is somewhat nervous turning loose of this particular piece of artwork which has hours of labor in it. Pray it is a fit and all goes well.
After Hubby got in the car, we went to the GILLHAM HOUSE with antiques and furnishings that we saw as we drove the neighborhood to the printers. This very upscaled shoppe was a treasure to come across.
When I stepped inside the mansion with very high ceilings, I got lost gawking at the merchandise arranged in the house by different dealers throughout the manse. I was curious what they must be paying to lease a space. I can only imagine.

I had no idea that Nell Hill's Mary Carol Garrity had a 400 square foot cubby hole store in this mansion called diebolt's. Nell Hill's in Atchinson, Kansas was her previous business that she has since sold. She had another rather large store in KC that I did not have the pleasure of visiting while she ran it. The business exchanged hands and her huge Atchinson mansion sold as well. I think she sold this business in 2018 to retire and move into a two bedroom cottage by a lake.
We had toured her Atchinson mansion about 12 years ago. Seems like yesterday. I have photos from the 2013 Fall Home Tour of hers which can be looked at on this blog's sidebar under Mary Carol Garrity etc. I did not know she was so famous until later.
I first noticed her walking about and recognized her. That's Mary Carol Garrity. Later I'd say hello and tell her that we had toured her HOME. She's sweet as ever and very personable. Her lil cubby hole shop carries the same style of merchandise she was peddling in 2013. She was really big into blue and white porcelain ginger jars and urns, pretty porcelain dishes, fragrant candles and silver trays hanging on the wall with black ribbon before and still is. A nice touch for glamour.
Mary Carol, Author and Decorator had a small Christmas tree decked out with tear shaped crystal prisms on top of a table in the middle of her tiny store. She has a flare that many admire and lust after. Things for fun not necessities, as she has put it.
AFTER LEAVING THE GILLHAM HOUSE, we drove to UNION STATION to eat lunch upstairs at HARVEY's. I had a salad. Imagine that. Exciting choice. grins. Somewhere in here is a paper thin shaved piece of asparagus. There was ONE slice in the whole salad. One? One. Only one. Did I say one? Yes, one.

PACKING PREP, KEEPING MY CHIN UP, EATING DISORDER, and POLITICAL POISON
THE DAY WAS COOLER THAN NORMAL FOR BEING AUGUST. I putted about the house some in the morning as I was under the weather with gut issues. I felt better than the previous day, but not 100%. The cooler temps lifted my spirits and I knew it would be wonderful walking weather, still I didn't walk until noon which is late for me and the temps had raised to the high 70s. Getting too close for comfort. If I had my act together I would have walked when it was 60 something.
With a cool breeze I walked downtown of small-town America dropping a letter off at the Post Office. I continued to walk some neighborhoods and then returned HOME to cool off. Afterwards I did paperwork and some laundry. I didn't have much to give as I was still dealing with stomach cramps.
Hubby had moved the large metal birdcage outside to sit beside the lilac bush so I can easily see it when looking through the kitchen window while washing dishes. It looks great there. I wanted this tall birdcage to add to our flower garden as a garden decoration. When researching the birdcage, it seems like SAMs had sold it once upon a time. Not sure how long ago, so I know it's not an antique, but a nice reproduction of one. At any rate, I am so pleased to have it on the property.
The midweek afternoon got away from me which didn't stop me from closing my eyes for an hour. After waking, I worked on placing items on the dining room table that needed to be removed from the front bedroom making way for this furniture swap. Perhaps I will make a dent in the mess.

Meatless Chili for Lunch and for an afternoon snack, I ate a banana and tablespoon of peanut butter sipping on 8.5 oz. of pineapple juice. Whalaah, the FOUR O'CLOCK TEA took place like clockwork meaning I am getting into my psych a TEA TIME practice even if I don't drink tea everyday. Stop at FOUR to take a break before the evening hits and meal time prep takes place. A rhythm is happening. Good.
As the day slipped into the evening, the outdoor temps were in the 60s and when I heard this I decided that I'd walk another mile at the track. I understand that it is a good plan to take a short walk after eating for the diabetic as the exercise helps with preventing sugar spikes. Will try to remember this and walk after supper instead of sitting as I have done for quite some time.
Quickly I slipped my shoes on and out the door I went. On my third lap I noticed our other car parked by PETE. This meant that HUBBY had drove out to the track. There he was sitting on the bleachers. He told me since it was getting darker that he needed to be there. hugs.
I finished my 4th lap and remembered that I needed to go to the dollar store for a greeting card as our daughter.in.law's birthday is coming up. Drove HOME so HUBBY could return his car and ride along with me to the store. Picked him up and went for the card. Afterwards, I drove around the community to continue cooling off from walking. It was a best walking weather I have had in a very long time as there was a gentle breeze with the temps being 68 degrees and lowering. It was awesome and I felt energized walking my mile. A beautiful SUMMER evening. Beautiful like AUTUMN.
Picked up the mail from our post office box and then drove out to the storage unit to pick up some packing boxes. By this time it was dark outside. Night had fallen.
The boxes will be taped and ready to use for packing dishes that are in the TV buffet which holds depression glass dishes. I can't move the piece of furniture full of dishes. I'll have to pack the dishes to relocate to the other room where this piece of furniture will sit. Eventually the TV will sit back on it when the corner of the room is changed/remodeled. As for now the buffet is too long to fit along the wall that the TV will be. Temporarily the TV will sit on a cedar chest which is shorter in width. Gosh, it seems like we have to morph along which sometimes causes mental fatigue waiting for the finished product.
MENTAL FATIGUE. I can identify. When I see others fly through a remodel in their home or a building built in a blink of a eye, even with knowing they have a crew to do the work, I get in trouble thinking that I am running at a much slower pace that takes months... sometimes years for the projects to be completed. Mental fatigue can become a problem so keeping things in perspective is a work. Still the struggle is real and something to contend with. I have to talk to myself about keeping my chin up.
This morning as I am typing my blog, I'm slowing eating a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast that's sprinkled with cinnamon, blueberries, banana slices and almond milk. Trying to eat slower each time with the meal taking at least 20 minutes to eat. This alone is a challenge as I tend to start eating way too fast as if I'm in a race and in hurry to cross the finish line. Now, I mindfully watch the clock as I dine making sure that I don't put the spoon or fork back in my mouth between bites too quickly. Breakfast has taken 35 minutes to eat this morning and there's still oatmeal in my bowl. Way to go, hot shot.
The 1986, 1 hour 40 minute movie Drama was KATE'S SECRET with Meredith Baxter as Kate. She struggles with wanting to be perfect while constantly living in fear that her own husband would leave her as she was told as a child that it was her fault that her father left her mother. The movie is nearly 40 years old, but the story is very relatable in today's society. How many children are starving for healthy words to be spoken over them? SO many. What about grown ups?
Okay, I'll be walking this morning in the cool of the day at the track. I love it when I am alone at the track. The scenery is beautiful to look at and it makes me thankful I have this place to walk laps in the sunshine. I speak freely with my maker and get my thoughts out as a stress reliever while exercising. Therapy. The rhythm of walking takes over and away I go. At present, I walk the mile in about 27 minutes depending on how well I am feeling. By the time I drive to the track, walk and cool off, a half hour has easily passed.
It's easy to stare at the heavens above, take an interest in the clouds and listen to the birds chirping in the distance. Last night while walking, there were a multitude of moths fluttering across my path getting in the way as I briskly took another step on the track. Nature is present.
What are my plans for the day? Continuing tending to items that need moved out of the pink room, taping up packing boxes, filling them, laundry, walking, bathing after walking, more laundry, watering the porch plants, correspondences, blogging, walking, eating nutritiously dense meals, cleaning up, doing a few household chores, talking to my elderly momma. Each day, I usually check the news and research other issues. etc. Life's good and I am blessed to be able to say so.
POLITICAL POISON. How many dictators and authoritarian leaders have hung banners of themselves on large buildings?
These and other authoritarian leaders use giant banners, portraits, and posters to project an image of power, infallibility, and omnipresence, which reinforces their cult of personality.
- North Korea (Kim Jong Un): Banners and giant portraits of Kim Jong Un and his predecessors, Kim Jong Il and Kim Il Sung, are ubiquitous across the country. Propaganda portrays the leader as a caring, "friendly father" to the nation, with images frequently featured in posters and public displays.
Historical examples
- Nazi Germany (Adolf Hitler): The Nazi regime promoted a cult of personality around Hitler on a mass scale. Portraits, posters, and busts of the "FΓΌhrer" were reproduced in massive quantities and displayed in homes and public venues. Streets and squares were also renamed in his honor.
- Soviet Union (Joseph Stalin): Propaganda under Stalin used doctored images to erase any trace of political enemies he had "purged". This manipulation of history through visual media helped cement his authority and maintain a carefully controlled public image.
- Uganda (Idi Amin): From 1971 to 1979, Amin's government used official photographers to document his public appearances and create propaganda. Thousands of these images were used to project a positive image of his government while masking its brutality and human rights abuses.
- China (Mao Zedong): During the Cultural Revolution, Mao's image was everywhere, from posters to statues. The display of his image was used to promote his revolutionary ideology and maintain control.
Where am I going with this? Why should it matter? Our present President has started hanging banners of his face on buildings. hum. Heil. Love him or hate him, I believe the banners are a sign of what is scheduled to promote a dictator in the works. If you've followed how Hitler took over Germany, Mister Trump is following in Hitler's footsteps. Significant similarities. Can't be. No, no, not possible. Just how did Hitler do what he did?
Are our leaders selected, not elected? Who's really in charge over the political world? Is there such a thing as the illuminati? Are there bloodlines that run things?
Is mind control a real thing? Heil.

CRAMPS, CELEBRATING AN ANNIVERSARY, MAKE-OVERS, CONSPIRACIES AND SWAPPING BEDROOMS
BY THE END OF THE WEEK, I so hope to have put in some walking each day, make tracks on swapping the two bedrooms around, get loads of laundry done, AND celebrate my wedding anniversary with my Sweetheart if my health holds up.
Not sure why I am having gut issues. Serious cramping throughout the day. I'll be eating plain yogurt for gut health and taking IBUPROFEN for pain. Tis miserable and takes my breath away when the cramps start.
Getting ready to go to the track for my mile walk this early morning. I won't be pushing it as I am slightly under the weather. I hope to be able to walk each day in this AUTUMN-LIKE weather. Tis in the 50s this morning. Awesome! At any rate we are having a break from the SUMMER HEAT WAVE we had earlier in the month.
The middle of the week is already here. I need to make plans for a quiet celebration of being married 51 years which is next week-end! 51. Oh my gosh and a half. This takes me back in time with awesome memories of a loving time between Husband and myself. We were so young it stings.
I think we will have a STEAK DINNER at home with some candles burning and music playing softly in the background. A side salad and broccoli. Some kind of dessert and then WATCH A GOOD MOVIE and have a quiet evening at HOME together. I'll bring out the wedding pictures and go ahhhhhhh. OR... there's that OR, we'll go out so we have no clean up. Shall see.
ONTO OTHER THINGS. The videos I enjoy seeing and watching on my computer are the beauty make overs, the Hoarders, decorating and health related. This particular video was a reel on FACEBOOK. These are amazing to see the difference like this one.
THESE ALWAYS AMAZE ME when I see them. The before and after. Hair is our crown of glory as the BIBLE says. I believe it. Give a good looking hair-do to a lady and she transforms into a beauty. The make-up and clothing don't hurt, but WOW. Transformed.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION IN OKLAHOMA, SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY and THE WEEK CONTINUES,
WE CELEBRATED OUR GRANDSON'S 11th BIRTHDAY over the week-end. He had a nice party with 14 attending, but I did leave on Monday feeling a little under the weather. Not sure why unless I ate too much rich food and my body started to rebel. I had a great time over the week-end with loved ones and friends.
The Birthday Party was on Saturday.
Sunday, we watched a church service on the television and visited.
Later in the day, we watched a double feature.
and YOUNG WOMAN AND THE SEA.
Will hopefully walk in the morning if it's not raining. Back to my plan in motion. Will unpack, do much needed laundry and start the migration of things to exchange from one room to another as I swap the rooms around. Yep.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.
