IN THE COOL OF THE EVENING...

AFTER DECORATING MY DAD'S AND BROTHER'S GRAVES on Sunday,
we drove across the prairie back to our humble abode in small town America.

The drive takes about an hour and a half one way.  I miss my Mom living in Marion so much it hurts.  Going to Marion always brings back fond memories.  I drive around town looking at the houses of people I once knew, but are now passed away.  There's so and so's house!

This year I did not walk through the cemetery as the grounds were soggy from the downpour of 5" of rain.  We managed to hang wreaths on shepherd hooks.   Later in the week, we'll need to retrieve them and bring them HOME, then I will hang them on our front doors.  Grapevine wreaths with white roses and blue with white stars on a bow.   They should look nice for Memorial Day through the summer until Labor Day.  Near the 4th of July, I'll add some miniature flags on them.

When I return to the cemetery, I will place a hanging basket of flowers on the shepherd's hook and place a bundle of faux flowers in the tombstone vase that is built in.  I like the idea of placing a potted plant on the graves and then when the gravesites are to be cleared off take the plants HOME to enjoy the plants longer.

Dad and David's graves are near an old oak tree that has nice shade.  Seems odd that my Dad and Brother are buried.   It's been a year since we last visited the gravesite.  A year.  Doesn't seem possible.

Drove HOME in some rain.  I talk to myself sometimes and say things like make today count.  Life is too short to be unproductive and full of regrets.  Turn loose of hard feelings.  Live like you mean it.  One day, my body may lay in a grave.  The spirit is gone, but what have I done while living?

In the cool of the evening, I walked in our backyard to clip some Irises from the garden.  Mostly yellow Irises are what are left as the Irises fade away.  As I spent some time in the yard, I took time to think about what to do with the flowerbed next.  Some baby trees have sprouted up through the Iris bed.  I'd like to keep some of the walnut trees that are poking through.

There are a few Iris seed pods that I need to read up on to see how to handle these so we have some baby Irises next Spring.  When I walked past the peonies, there seemed to be some seed pods as well.  Same with reading up on what to do with the peony seeds.  I'd love to have some more peonies.

R
esting this evening.  Every once in awhile, I walk by the Easter wreaths that are on the table that I am working on and do something to them.  The time I have allows for a little here and a little there to work on them.  Soon, they will be finished and stored in the cellar.  I'm either seriously running behind or super ahead of myself with the wreaths for Easter 2026.

GOOD BYE OLD FRIEND!

This week-end the yard clean-up has started.  The old 1971 OPEL GT that we have hauled around with us for years was turned loose of.  It was alright to say good-bye.  My Husband has had this car ever since I've known him.  1973.  We dated in this little car, I learned to drive a stick shift in this car, left our wedding in this car, used it to drive about when our first born came into the world.  The kids played in this car.  Bitter sweet to say good-bye.

I climbed into the car so I could sit behind the driver's wheel one last time and it was a joke trying to get out of it.  So small and I'm a big mama these days.  The car is very low to the ground.  Even if it were in running condition, it would be difficult to get in and out of it.  Those days are gone.  V-room v-room off you go.  She was a beautiful butterscotch colored sports car way back in the day.

Hubby is fixing a container garden for us.  He cleared a ground area beside the garage, laid weed mat down then placed old bricks on top of it.  We're planting some peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and herbs in containers then sitting them in this area.  We have part of an old picket fence that will be attached to the garage above where the bricks lay.  It was his idea and I fell for it.  It'll be sweet.

So with that being said, I can recall our productive week.  Last week-end two of our grands graduated.  We traveled.  Medical appointment.  We traveled.  Grocery shopped and thrift shopped.  We traveled.  Bought an old leather club chair with ottoman for Hubby's Art Studio that will be created soon.  We traveled.   Shopped for some plants and herbs.  Turned loose of the old Opel GT.  Traveled to a High School League Track and Field event.   Traveled to decorate graves.  Snipped the last of the Irises that I adore.   Saddened that the time for the Irises to fade has come.  Will celebrate MEMORIAL DAY on Monday.

We are on day 6 of our Daniel Diet.  Lots of beans are being eaten.  Hubby has not complained and seems to be doing pretty well eating the way we are.  21 days of this and then we will ease back into eating red meat, fish and chicken.  I think we'll stick with drinking almond milk instead of cow's milk.  I look forward to eating eggs again.  Skipping the pasta, white rice and pastries.

Since we cannot eat meat and desserts on Memorial Day due to the Daniel Diet, we will probably have black bean patties without hamburger buns and french fries with sugar-free catsup. Yummers.  Some fruit.  More veggies like a cherry tomato, cucumber, radish and lettuce salad.  Lots of lemon water to drink.

Wished I had bought that watermelon I saw.  whaah.

W
ell, I think it's time to throw a load of laundry in, watch some TV and have HAPPY thoughts that I am where I am even if it's not perfect.

Blessings,

JUST ONE OF THOSE DAYS THAT DOESN'T GO AS PLANNED

THE DAY WENT SO DIFFERENT THAN I IMAGINED.  That's alright.  I needed a slow paced day with an afternoon NAP.  Totally.

I just came inside from clipping some Irises for a Living room vase.  I did get this done from my TO DO LIST before the storms beat the blossoms completely down for the year.  I cannot find my nicer vases.  Haven't a clue where they are, so I emptied a glass jar and recruited it to do the job.  It's fine and looks alright.  Cute.  Looks like a barrel.

The entire time I was outside, the thunder in the distance was a constant rumble.  Kind of daunting as I don't believe I've ever heard it rumble like this.

ALERTS and Warnings have been broadcasted that we're in a tornado watch until 9 or so.  Violent storms approaching.  I cannot but help think that with our government allowing chem-trails that it causes the intensity of tornadoes to develop.  Just sayin'

The excuse that the chem-trails reflect sunlight to help cool global warming leads me to believe that this is one reason there are so many that have a Vitamin D Deficiency.  Molesting nature has consequences.

PAUSE.  OUR PHONE JUST RANG.  Daughter called to tell us they saw a tornado west of town.  Appreciate her so much.  Yelled at my hubby and we gathered a few things to take to the cellar.  As I reached the cellar door, HUBS called me to come back into the house as he was talking on the phone.  Then we returned to the cellar later.  Storms passing through.  Sitting downstairs as I type.  About to return to the upstairs.  Waiting this out.

Made our way upstairs.  Storm passed right on by.  Turned on the TV onto YOUTUBE to watch OFF GRID WITH DOUG AND STACY.  The program starts at 7 so I'll have to watch later.

Spent the evening watching movies and relaxing.  More storms may come through the area in the middle of the night.  Not happy about this so I probably will not sleep.

I need to go to the store and purchase some potting soil for the herbs and plants we purchased over the week-end.  I think I have enough containers stashed behind the garage in the backyard for the plants.

MORE STORMS are blowing through.
Dear Lord, protect us.

IRISES IN MAY

THE RUMBLING SOUNDS OF MOTHER NATURE THUNDERING are grumbling in the Kansas skies this evening.  Not sure if a heftier storm will rush in or not.  As we were shopping today over in Manhattan, the thunderous clouds were building up with color themes of a Mariposa Skies Iris.

HUBBY had an afternoon barber appointment and while he was with the barber, I went across the street to look at the plants for sell in the Dillon Grocery Store parking lot.  Strolling through the aisles of beautiful flowers and plants made for a pleasant time while waiting for my Husband to finish up his appointment.

We went for an iced tea, HOME DEPOT to look for more Baby Gem Boxwoods and then to the grocery store for almond milk and boxed lettuce.  Short stay in Manhattan and then back HOME we went.  Only a few drops of rain fell on the windshield of the car as I drove the distance.  Dry the rest of the way HOME.

No storm.  Peaceful evening.

On the HOME FRONT, our Irises are blooming.  Not this year, but next year perhaps we will be artistic with the large flowerbed.  The like Irises will be grouped together in circles of about 6 bulbs like it is done at the KSU Gardens in Manhattan.  For now, we have single bulbs in rows.

Irises are what I yearn for each year.
I pray they last an entire month or more.

THREE MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS IN ONE WEEK WITH BAGELS TO SHARE AND A TRACK MEET AT HAND WITH IRISES TO ADMIRE

THREE MEDICAL APPOINTMENTS THIS PAST WEEK.  Tired of going. Need to rest and get things done around our estate.  Tis true.  Our Social Calendar is speckled with medical appointments.  I try to make the best of each event because eating out and sometimes Motel stays are included.  If we're in a community where there are fun things to do, it may be included.

WEDNESDAY morning we drove to TOPEKA for a special eye check up for my HUBBY.  Come to find out that he had a tear inside the eyeball and had emergency laser surgery.  Surprise.  His eyes were dilated so afterwards I drove the car to WAMEGO for my follow-up cataract surgery on my eyes.  I'm having some issues that hopefully will clear up in a month or so.  Cloudiness and floaters that I wasn't expecting.  Come back in 6 months unless something drastic takes place then call.  I'll have to return to get fitted for reading glasses when I am rested.  Medicare will pay for standard glasses after cataract surgeries.  I'll take advantage of this.

Drove HOME and packed for Kansas City medical appointment for Cancer follow-up on Thursday.  Drove to KC.  We ate a delicious meal at STROUDS.  Hubby requested it and I agreed. The GRAVY could be a meal all by itself.  I mean it.

Stopped in to look around at the at home STORE.  Huge HOME store.  I think it would be a temptation to have access to this hunk of merchandise.

Drove to the Motel that was waiting.
Nothing fancy, but the bed was heavenly.  Spent the night.  Sealy Tempur-Pedic 11" mattress soft and comfy.

I checked out alright at the cancer exam and was told that I more then likely DO NOT carry the DNA gene for uterine cancer as the cancer was hormone driven.  Come back in 6 months.  You're on the calendar.  Check.  The lobby was full to the brim.  All these women have some kind of CANCER.  Each day, I'm sure the lobby is full throughout the day.  One woman at a time.  Too many people are affected by CANCER.  Tis horrible.

When the nurse weighed me, I had put 10 pounds on which is common with hysterectomies.  The nurse said something about the weight struggle.  I added that I don't feel like I'm struggling, but it is an on going challenge.  I don't entertain the word STRUGGLE.  Imagine that.

I will be making a list of places I want to go next time we go to Kansas City!  Hopefully the weather will be mild mannered.

Nothing like a real BAGEL for brunch so we deliberately stopped at a Bagel Shoppe.

We went to Meshuggah Bagels, a Jewish bagel shoppe.  Meshuggah in Yiddish means crazy.  The interior of the shop was pleasantly decorated in a primitive American Colonial style.  The bagel was delicious and the atmosphere delightful.

We checked out a huge grocery store called the Hen House.  Oh my...it was outstanding.  I'd shop there if I lived in the area.  Now, this is some kind of grocery store.

We knew a storm was scheduled to roll in around 3 PM so we headed HOME before that arrived running into stormy weather on the way HOME.  RAIN rain rain.

By the time we pulled up to our house, I was exhausted.  Unloaded some things and took a break.  Thunder and lightning took place and the wind blew hard with rain.  I drove as Hubby rested his eye that had laser surgery.  We're a pair.  It's a blessing that we can help one another.

FRIDAY, I was taking it easy in my housecoat.  Did some laundry, cleaned out an ice chest, did a great deal of paperwork and cleaned up our calendar.  Looking at it, it's kind of difficult to keep all the appointments straight.  The laundry pile grew some and I will continue whittling it down.  As I work about the house, I am remodeling it in my head.  This helps me to keep going.

I haven't cleared off the metal kitchen rack full of baking ware yet that will go onto a metal rack in the Utility room.  Aiming to get this done this week-end.  Gotta make it happen, but I have to be HOME full of energy in order to make that happen.

With actively going to medical appointments and the rainy weather, I will begin walking this week-end as well.  Determined to do this.  Amen.

We found ourselves going to St. Marys to watch a Track and Field Meet that Lil Miss was running in.  Went early enough to get a Rachel Salad at SUGAR CREEK and an almond milk steamer at MJs.  Off to the track.  The WIND was awful and I was beginning to think it would get rained out with tornadoes.  Prayed.  The wind calmed down and the storm clouds blew away.  The weather was alright for running.  A complete change of atmosphere as the evening went on.  Two years ago at the St. Marys Track Meet, it was tornadic weather.  This year it calmed down.

They flew.  Lil Miss ran in two relays which both took first and ran the one mile taking second.  It is amazing to see the kids run as fast as they do.  Amazing.  Such athletes.  I think I walked about 1/2 mile going from one stand over to the other side and back and then doing this a second time.  Safe to say I got some walking in for the day.

I started a walking journal to keep track of the walking I will get done and to encourage myself to keep it up.

This week-end I AM VERY TIRED.  Woke at 7 and went back to bed around 9.  Needed more rest.  Stormy weather has blown in.  Went outside to check on our Irises and make plans for future landscaping.  A work in progress.  A long work in progress.

The flowerbed by the cellar door has several different Iris types with some white Immortality Reblooming German Irises, some white with yellow beards, Wedding Party, Maraposal Skies which are purple with white, pale lavender which are Song of Norway and some purple heirloom.

The Iris Flowerbed next to a chainlink fence on the left side of the backyard have a variety of different colors which are starting to open and display beautiful blooms.  Each day more varieties will open.  Waiting for their splashes of color to show up.

This flowerbed by the sidewalk is full of Heirloom Purple Irises which will bloom in a few days.  Can't wait.  This is the bed that we're thinking about thinning out and placing rows of flowers on the other side of the walk as well.  The old garage in the background will be painted in the next 5 years or so.  Right now it looks very FARMHOUSE FRIENDLY.

Things on the Prairie are what they are.  As I looked through the local newspaper, I tell myself that I have to get more involved with the community.  I have shied away from this as when we first moved here in December 2006.  Then in 2007, I was babysitting lil Miss and was very isolated from the community.  I laid low.  Made a few friends.

We moved to a different COMMUNITY IN 2017.  ILLNESS AND
C O V I D hit.  Still isolated.  Busy with family issues, remodeling projects, ill health and infamous fatigue, I declined to be very social.  NOW, we relocated to our small COTTAGE with a ton of remodeling projects, medical appointments and more fatigue, BUT I will see about getting more active in our COMMUNITY.

Hubby comes first and then the rest will follow.  I think I will slow the pace down and simplify my LIFE for the time being.  Here I go.

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

“Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.”

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

its rooms are filled with rare

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
