I don't remember the name of the television program or the year, but I have a faint memory of what happened on this show.  There was a timer that was ticking and the contestants of the program were to go through the grocery store and select items that they wanted to place in the grocery cart.  When they were told to go, off they'd run about the store pushing their cart and throwing items into it.  When time was up they had to stop SHOPPING and return to the front of the store to have the items tallied up.  The one that rang up the highest sales ticket was the winner.  I'll have to google this and see if I can find out what the name of that program was.

As the viewing audience I thought the fastest way to tally up a high bill would be to pile on the meats!  That's what I would select and put in my buggy if I had the opportunity to play this exciting game.

oh wait....i googled television program about shopping race and Supermarket Sweep popped up.  Original Show Broadcast on ABC in December 20, 1965 through July 14,1967 was broadcast from Food Fair Supermarkets, mostly around New York City.  Host of 1965-67 was Bill Malone.   I would have been 10 years old and in the fifth grade.  There have been revival airings.  Haven't seen these.
