Some more of the details I like about our old stonehouse. So glad you've stopped by.

One of the features I love about our old stonehouse are the high ceilings and the way the walls curve into the windows. This picture is of the Formal Parlour and pretty sure that this will probably be the last room I decorate another color. The other rooms will come first, because they need more attention than the Parlour. I want to take the valances down and hang delicate lace panels instead of what is up there now. I'm looking for white lace panels. For now the walls are a beige/champagne color and white. This will do for now...but I sure want to change it.

We moved this SideBoard/Buffet out of the Parlour last week-end and put in it's place a large Curio Cabinet. Pictures later. I had the Sideboard sitting in the Parlour for a good year and when Christmas came I was lost without it in the Diningroom. So she's happily sitting in the Diningroom again.

This next picture is to show you the plaster wall on stone that curves into the window. Almost all of the windows are like this. I hadn't seen walls like this before. The 1901 part of our Haven mimics the 1885 part of the house. Whoever did this technique carried the theme throughout the house. This I like and it caught my eye when we were house hunting 3 years ago.

Moving right along...One of the brass door knobs that holds a mystery behind it...the Mechanical Room where the Hot Water Heater and Boiler reside. Just what you wanted to see right? Maybe next time! It's a Man Cave in there.

Knock Knock...Who's There?

A few days ago I shared HomeHaven's old staircase. Squeaks and all. Glad you've stopped by today to take another peek into our old house we call HOME these days. As I continue to share some other features I like about our haven maybe you'll use your imagination to focus these slightly blurry pics.

Let's start with this oak door. This particular door is on the part of the house built in the early 1900's. A few years ago, we bought a similar looking door that will be used for the entrance door on the 1885 part of the house. What's on there now is a newer door from (I'm guessing) the 1960's??? After the door is worked over and installed, we'll have almost a matching pair from the same time era. Can't wait...but have to!







I bought some Brasso to clean the brass door knobs this Spring. I'll do a BEFORE and AFTER pic and hope for the best. Can you imagine how many people have turned this door knob? Brass is suppose to be a substance that helps to kill germs. Still this old knob needs a good polishing. The details the designer put into his creation is appreciated.




This wood trim with the rosette on the corners that frames the door is seen from inside the Diningroom. Wanted to show you the depth of the door well. I don't have a tape measure handy so I'm guessing that the depth is about 18" deep. So from the door to the screen door is about an 18" stretch of hard wood with more trim on it.






This wood trim with rosette frames the doorway between the Diningroom into the Family Room. It's at this place that one leaves the newer part of the house and goes into the older part. It's really deep...more so than the door wells on front of the house. The Family Room Ceiling Fan with amber colored glass globe was a new addition and has come in very handy to cool the summer heat.






These Hallmark Christmas ornaments were sitting on top of the Family Room knotty yellow pine trim that's framing the doorway from the Family Room looking into the Diningroom.






Between the Family Room and Formal Parlour is this pretty Knotty Yellow Pine Ball and Stick Grille with scroll work. Still in very good shape with a 125 year patina. Wish there was more of this about the house. There are some really pretty grilles available on the market that could be used elsewhere in the house and we might just get a few more to doll up some rooms. Also at old house salvage stores one can find some beauties to enhance areas.






The wood floors in the Family Room and Formal Parlour is good ole hardwood Maple. True to form the floors are old and there is wear and tear with some scratches. Perhaps we will strip and stain these some where down the line.

More hardwood floors can be found upstairs.

Welcome to my Old House! Please come in. We bought this place about three years ago and she's been morphing for about 125 years. We continue to tweak her here and there. Still giving her lots of thought as to what to do next. She's the oldest house I have ever lived in and she sits in the smallest town I have ever lived in. She's a diamond in the rough...needing some lipstick, rouge and elbow grease...lots of patience and creative thinking with good intentions needed.

Want to see some of the features that I enjoy about this old 125 year old house? Here are a few...I'll start with the stairs that lead upstairs. So sorry for being blurry. If I get some better pictures I might try this again.

Oak, Maple and Fir.

Rather rough and somewhat primitive.

Kind of like some people I know!!!
