Dogs Are Barking

When the neighborhood dogs start barking, the mailman is delivering the area mail.  Twice a morning I can hear the canine choir bellowing out their tune.  It's loud.  Annoying.

Thankfully it doesn't last longer than 10 minutes.  Whooof whooof.  Woof woof.

This noise pollution is by far better to take than high powered train whistles blaring umpteen times throughout the day as well as in the dark of the night.  Hopefully, I will get use to the barking as I did the train whistles.  After all it's a earth friendly alarm telling me the mail is on the way.  My personal alert.

Today I'll go to TOWN to mail Family pictures to relatives, wash 3 loads of towels, visit the THRIFT SHOPPE and plant some light pink Geraniums in two round planters.  If I accomplish these tasks, I will take a break and enjoy the SPRING weather while sipping something like Pero.

Grey skies this morn where the birds are chirping.  It may be one of those stormy days with thunder showers.  We have a Momma bird that built her nest in the Kitchen porch on top of the metal fuse box.  Didn't have the heart to turn her away as she feverishly built her NEST for her lil eggs.

AT first, she'd fly away when we exited the door or entered the house.  Slowly she stopped fluttering out.  My Husband is the bird and animal whisperer.  He'd talk to her in a low gentle voice and she started staying put.  When she stayed away longer than he thought prudent, he took the camera, raised it up to catch a glimpse of the eggs.  Snap.  These eggs had yellow beaks.  The eggs were now hatched.  Momma bird is hunting worms to feed her babes.

After they fly the coop, the nest will be removed.  Later a screen door will go on the porch.  No more bird's nest.  One mustn't forget that as the birds get bigger before flying out, there will be bird poo to clean up.  Love the birds, but don't especially like their waste product.  grins.

Hubby and I battled moving the antique bed headboard up the flight of stairs, turn the corner in the landing and continue up half a dozen more steps, down the hall then turning into bedroom.  We made it with a whole lot of huffing and puffing.

NEXT came the footboard.  He started to assemble the bed with the 2 heavy wood side rails and footboard as I balanced the footboard.  She is sitting in her new HOME.  I think she looks beautiful.  Better than when I first saw her last SUMMER.  When we were loading her up in the moving truck, she had become even prettier than when sitting in the SHOPPE.  She's burled walnut and over a hundred years old.  Beautiful.

The bedroom is small, but think the way it will be arranged will be manageable.  Positioning the bed into place along the wall.  Tonight we hope to carry up the mirror from the dresser.  Large and heavy.  THINK we'll have to call in the troops to get the bottom of the dresser and washstand upstairs.  Extremely heavy.  Very weighty for two old people in their 60s.

This week I had hoped to get the Bedroom Suite upstairs.  We are on target.  The week isn't over.  Next week the church pew will return to the Kitchen nook which means a metal rack and work island will have to be relocated.  If it isn't one thing, it's umpteen other things.  smile.  SOmewhere in here I will have to rearrange the food pantry and find nooks and crannies to put extra dishes and misc.

By the end of JUNE, I hope to have a mattress/boxspring on order for the Antique bed, bedding, both Guest rooms ready for company to sleep in them, the Kitchen tidied again, the Living room all organized, plants on the porch, new glasses on my face and the fire recovery notes typed up.  Goals.

Have a pleasant day!

Remembering The Rock

AFTER we attended a High School Graduation and Reception in Small Town America, we took a leisurely drive about town and ended up walking the grounds of our old place of residence.  I did better about not aching so much when peeking in the windows.

I have walked through the house a couple times this past year which was harder then I like to admit.  Viewing pics on the internet has been painful.  This particular day, I did better.

The Living room isn't as large as I recall and the radiators throughout the house have been removed.  The Contractor enhanced much about the interior.  I like the Kitchen.  The Parlour and Family room wood floors looks more worn than when we lived there, especially the stairs.  They should have refinished the stairs.  The fire did a number on everything.

The upstairs floor plan was changed to where sharing a bathroom is positioned between the two back bedrooms.  The Master Bedroom remains the same with the bedroom that was across the hall become a closet with bath.

Lord willing, I will get completely over this house and live a great LIFE elsewhere.  Each place we have lived has had memories.  I don't want to mope.  TIME to throw myself into a GARDEN, Family, Friends, sewing, writing, drawing, painting, cooking, shopping, walking, something else besides being weepy over a house.  Amen and amen.

We put the upstairs middle window in September of 2016.
When we moved into the house back in 2006, the front flowerbed only had a few Daylilies close by the porch.  When we left, the Daylilies were lush out front around the bump out and in front of the porch.

Hubs had tore out and rebuilt the porch back in 2010.

We bought this door from a Council Grove Antique Shop to resemble the other front door that had never been painted.  After we sold the house, the contractor painted both doors the same color.  I remember well the day we came across the door and hauled it home in the car.  I remember well the day Hubby installed the Parlour door and I painted the interior side white to match the room.  I gave it much thought about taking the screen doors off the house, but didn't.  The contractor did.  It looks great.  Shows off the old antique doors.

The wall between the Kitchen and the Dining room was torn out.  Radiators gone.
The Bathroom moved and a Pantry put back where it was originally in 1901.  The pantry we had was turned into a bathroom before we moved into the house.  All changed now.
BARN WOOD on the ceiling for Farm House fun.
Plaster taken off the walls to reveal the native limestone.

The Parlour had a change of color and radiators removed.
The beautiful grille work is still there.  The two small chandies are still hanging.
You'd never know that there had been a devastating fire in this old rock house a year and a half ago.
Our concern was that when it gets really hot outside the smell of smoke will make itself known again in the house and the dignity of the back wall not be as strong as it should be.
Conflictive opinions.
We decided to honor the Engineer that inspected the house after the fire
and go with his knowledge about fires and limestone losing their integrity.

Do I wish we had stayed?  There are times I would quickly say yes
and other times I would say no thank you.

There are times when I start thinking about what all was needed to be worked on
before the fire ever happened and I shy away.

A different family will be moving in soon and I wish them well,
d

PICTURES OF WHILE THE CONTRACTORS
WORKED ON THE OLD STONE HOUSE

SOMETIMES it is best to not dwell on a loss for too long.  We still have paperwork to do concerning insurance and replacing what was lost.  When this is completed, I know myself and the memories will drift back into my thought life.  I may have to remind myself to focus on the good.

JESUS is that rock we are to build our HOMES on.
He is the one we are to embrace and call LORD.

I agree.

Matthew 7:24-27 King James Version (KJV)

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

GOD IS IN THE DETAILS

Finally got the carrots peeled, but they sat in the sink until after I took a nap.  Was so tired I forgot about them.  They slow cooked in the crockpot.

Started by adding olive oil and carrots into the crockpot, cooking an hour then adding water to cover them.  Slow cooked til tender to the fork.  Letting them cool off before putting them in the fridge.

When I saw beautifully printed packages of vegetable seeds in the Grocery store, I decided that next year I want to plant some.  Veggies I have never tried to grow like eggplant, cauliflower, broccoli, beets.

I've grown radishes before and will try again.  I may have to have a container garden as the ground around our house for a veggie garden is slight.

A simple salad that's nutritious and inexpensive.
Good for you.

There's an area by the carriage house that will hold a small patch of lavender.  I want to try to grow some next growing season.  First I've got to get caught up around here and get better settled from our move and replacing items needed as we go.  STILL SHUFFLING.  Takes a bit of time, energy and thought.

ON THE HOME FRONT:
This past week was a good one for fire recovery.
We purchased an antique bedroom suite!
Two Buffet Lamps,
and
a sitting Shirley Temple Doll (Danbury Mint Porcelain Collector Doll).

FIRE RECOVERY 101: As we get our HOME things replaced, it will be a top priority to document the items with pictures and descriptions.  Copies at HOME, IN THE CLOUD and safety deposit box.  At least three places.  Maybe 4.

Keeping accurate records of purchases is a smart thing to do for recall and estate planning.

BIBLE STUDY:
God kept recorded accounts of spoils of war, animals and souls.  There is something to this thing about KNOWING what you own.

Irises Are Flaggs and Flaggs Are Irises 2

Second time to the Gardens this 2018 SPRING.
More Irises were in bloom this week, BUT BEAT DOWN SOMEWHAT FROM THE PREVIOUS NIGHT'S RAIN.

Favorite this visit was QUEEN'S CIRCLE.
Not because of the Royal Wedding across the pond, but this bloom caught my eye with it's delicate purple frill on the tips of the bloom.  Basically all white then a hint of purple on the tips.

Tour continues.

We noticed a sign that led the way to the CORPSE PLANT in a Green House.  We missed the bloom last year.  Walked a distance to see it.  Pictures on a different post.  It does stink and to the naked eye isn't what I'd call a beauty.  Interesting, but.......

Hopefully will return in a week to see if other Irises
have taken on a bloom or two.
This time I would like to sit 15 or 20 minutes
in the shade looking at the flowers.

A SPRING EVENT I don't want to overlook,

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

“Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.”

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

By wisdom
a house is built,
and through understanding

it is established;
through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

and beautiful treasures.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
