Apples Dipped In Honey

~DIPPING APPLES IN HONEY TO REPRESENT HAVING A SWEET YEAR~

I ate apples dipped in honey.
DELICIOUS.

This is to represent
HAVING A SWEET NEW YEAR!

I'm Christian as Jesus is my Lord,
but the more I understand Jewish Festivals and Events
the more I love God which enhances my Faith Walk with HIM.

At sundown on September 24th,ROSH HASHANAH begins.
The beginning of the Jewish New Year.

Asking God for a SWEET YEAR….boy, do I need it.

May you have a sweet day.
A sweet year and a sweet LIFE,
d

FOR MORE INFO about Rosh HaShanah:
Rosh HaShanah has to do with dipping apple slices into honey.  This sweet combination stems from an age-old Jewish tradition of eating sweet foods to express our hope for a sweet new year.

The Blessing For Apple and Honey

Though apple and honey can be eaten throughout the holidays, they are almost always eaten together on the first night of Rosh HaShanah. Jews dip apple slices into honey and say a prayer asking God for a sweet New Year. There are three steps to this ritual:
  1. Say the first part of the prayer, which is a blessing thanking God for the apples: Blessed are you Lord, our God, Ruler of the world, Creator of the fruit of the tree. (Baruch atah Ado-nai, Ehlo-haynu melech Ha-olam, Borai p'ree ha'aitz.)
  2. Take a bite of the apple slices dipped in honey.
  3. Now say the second part of the prayer, which asks God to renew us during the New Year: May it be Your will, Adonai, our God and the God of our forefathers, that You renew for us a good and sweet year. (Y'hee ratzon mee-l'fanekha, Adonai Elohaynu v'elohey avoteynu sh'tichadeish aleinu shanah tovah um'tuqah.

Feeding Your Family For Less!

Hello from The PRAIRIE.
I'm wearing my ruby red slippers
somewhere in the Kansas Flint Hills
and thinking about ways to SAVE money
while feeding my family for LESS.

Ways to stretch the dollar…let me count the ways.

Wanna share.

Glad you've stopped by,
d

I remember when I was a newly wed
and shopping was challenging
because we had very little money for anything
let alone for meat.

My first attempts being a HOMEMAKER
were laborious.  Not in my COMFORT ZONE.
Learning as I went along.

Recently browsing the meat counter,
it was noticeable that the meat prices are on the rise AGAIN.

I am a BEEF LOVER.

With discipline, we can find ways to have more meatless meals
and be pleased at the same time that we are still eating well
as we substitute THICK CUTS of beef with other products.

Such as BACON.

Catching bacon on sale when the price is lower
allows an opportunity to FEED YOUR FAMILY FOR LESS.
Having BLTs goes a long ways.

Bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches make me smile.
We seldom had them when I was a child,
but when we did...I loved them.

They bring HAPPY MEMORIES to mind.

I continue looking for ways to have delicious meals for less.
As we near time to RETIRE,
I'll continue to look for ways to stretch the dollar.

BLTs it is.

Use thinner cuts of BACON
makes the bacon go further.
BACON can be substituted with TURKEY BACON.
May be less expensive.

BLTs made with fresh bread is delicious.

Not everyone likes toasted BLTs, but if you do
consider using LESS EXPENSIVE day old bread
which TOAST BETTER than fresh bread.
Great for French Toast as well.

Using day old TEXAS TOAST, thinner slices of bacon,
fresh tomatoes with crisp lettuce, mayo, a little salt and pepper
makes a tasty sandwich.

The thickness of TEXAS TOAST adds an attractive feature
for delicious HARDY sandwiches.

Too many carbs for you?

Consider using English Muffins instead of
white bread.  Makes a unique BLT.
Thin bagels, English muffins and thin sandwich bread
can easily take place of thicker sliced bread.

Using pita bread instead of toast makes a LOW CAL meal.
Half of a pita pocket filled with bacon,
lettuce, tomato, salt and pepper added.
Hold the mayo.  Might like some shredded cheese with red onion added in.

Not a TRADITIONAL BLT,
but that's alright.

Regular TOASTED BLT Instructions:
Gather ingredients.

Soak lettuce leaves in cold salted water for ten minutes to kill micro-organisms.
Rinse lettuce with cold water and pat dry.  Set aside.

Fry up bacon.
When done, sit aside.
Save bacon grease for other dishes.
Poor out bacon grease from skillet.

Toast bread in frying pan using left-over bacon grease or butter.
To cut calories, use a toaster to toast bread then butter toast on one side.

Place two pieces of toast on plate.  Open faced.  Let it smile at you.
Spread mayo on open face that will be inside of sandwich.
Add lettuce leaf to both pieces of toast.

Slice fresh tomatoes and add to sandwich.
Season with salt and pepper.
Add bacon.
Sandwich the goods.
Press lightly together to seal.

BLT instructions:
Fresh Bread BLTs are a cinch to make.

2 pieces of bread, mayo, bacon, tomato and lettuce.
Tadah....you've got the makins' of a quick meal.
Place sandwich on plate with potato chips and carrot slices.
Beverage of choice.
Makes a nice, affordable, nutritious meal.

ADDITIONAL side dishes to consider could be applesauce, cottage cheese, salads, and jello.

NO BACON?
Nothing wrong with a tomato and lettuce sandwich.
Ever had just a cucumber sandwich?
Good and crunchy.

Feeding your family for less is possible
and simply delicious.
Life just got a little easier,

The Many Do's and Don'ts of Deanna

When I started babysitting by coming out of semi-retirement at 52, my feet hit the ground running.
I needed a quick do so I let me hair grow out, swirled up and used a banana clip to hold in place.
My hair has been up, down, long, in between and short.

After BLOGGING for almost six years,
hairstyles and glasses have changed.
Change is good,

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

By wisdom
a house is built,
and through understanding

it is established;
through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

and beautiful treasures.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
