TUESDAY DAY TRIP TO TOPEKA. I made an excuse as to why I needed to go to Topeka today to shop. First I checked on the veggies I had in the fridge bins to make sure to get what I needed as I am going to attempt to eat the MAYO GRAPEFRUIT DIET in a few days. Checked to see what meats are in the freezer as well. A ham, some chicken, turkey to cook next week.
Knowing that this week I have a colonoscopy in which I had to prep for two and a half days, a Friendship Luncheon and a Funeral. I will just be very careful what I eat this week when I eat and begin next Sunday with... drum roll please...the Grapefruit Diet.
Today in Topeka, I bought organic Tomato Juice so I can sip on this in the evenings before bed. I'll have grapefruit juice in the morning along with 2 pieces of bacon and 2 eggs. Lunch will be a green salad with chicken and grapefruit juice to drink. Supper...not sure yet, but of course I should have a half of a grapefruit along with cooked red and green veggies. The meat...not sure yet. AND as I eat, I will remind myself that I am not deprived. I am blessed and I am working on changing my body size. This takes time and discipline to not eat carbs and sweets.
After reading this, I'm not thrilled about having drank this junk to prep for a colonoscopy. Yuck. Banned at Whole Foods Market...that's not good. Whatever is Glycerol Ester of Rosin??? There's that nasty ingredient Natural Flavor. No telling what that might be.
I decided that the prepping for the colonoscopy was considered my JULY JUMP START on reducing. This prepping surely was low in calories and carbs. On Saturday, I calculated that I only consumed 250 calories as I drank tea, gatorade (doctor's orders) and broth then ate sugar-free jello. Amazingly enough, I was not hungry. Then on Sunday, about the same thing. So if this doesn't help jump start my reduction, I'm concerned nothing will. I had plateaued and this will help jump start another round of losing some more weight.
The nurse at the surgical center on Monday checked my blood sugar level (137) and blood pressure (147/72) before having the procedure. I am curious what my A1C will be in August. If I can lose 10 pounds before my August medical appointment, I would be very pleased with the progress I have had at reducing my weight since April.
Starting with the Grapefruit Diet on Sunday allows the 12 days on and two days off before labs are done.
Since it was Tuesday, I washed a load of towels at home and took them to machine dry over at the cottage. Went onto Topeka for a SUMMER STRAWBERRY SALAD from Wendy's and ate under a shade tree. Drank water. Serious talk with hubby about my cousin's death. I just about cannot talk about this. It is affecting me very strongly. I am still stunned.
Life is short. Live it well, make healthy choices and walk in wisdom.
From the shade tree we went to GOD's STOREHOUSE. I picked up a little doll and looked her over. She's made out of hard plastic. She needs a serious cleaning. I debated if I should even get her and decided, yes. I'll clean her up and maybe see if I can sell her.
As we were sitting in the furniture section of the store, I saw a unique rocking chair. The upholstery is shot, but the rocking chair could be recovered and we'd have a beautiful AND comfortable sitting rocking chair. We know just the guy to work her over if he is still in business in Kansas City. I hope we can get him to make the chair gorgeous again. The chair sits so nice that it is a treasure. First hubby tried it out and said, "This is really comfortable."
I tried her out and agreed. I said, let's get it. He agreed and he went to pay for this treasure. I sat and waited for the help to come and move her to our car. As I sat, there were two rather young children near the furniture section. The little girl with black curly hair in a ponytail told me all about her Ariel doll she was playing with and that she liked the purple and turquoise dress the doll was wearing. She was aware of the doll's bright red hair. The little boy with her kept getting closer to me and was talking about how old he was. They were two very cute children and talking to them brightened my day. Then their mother called for them and they were gone.
A group of Amish women with young children came by the furniture. I blurted out a question, "Did you make your dresses?" The oldest women of the group said nicely, "Yes." I told her I have read about the Amish. I would have loved to pick her brain. I asked her if the dresses had straight pins and she said she had a zipper and that she also drove a car. I said that you can wear any kind of shoes. One had tennis shoes on and another sandals. A younger woman said so long as they aren't flashy. Comfortable. She asked me where I lived and I told her as she lives outside of Topeka. I told her that Tuesday is Senior day and to be sure and tell the clerk so she would get a senior discount.
Off they went.
The help came by and loaded up our rocker. No senior discount on furniture. I knew this. Hubby had pulled the car over to the loading zone. The rocker fit our tiny car. It was wonderful to know that we have a neat old rocker to make beautiful again. Beautiful. We went ahead and checked the fabrics at JOANN's. They didn't have anything that turned my crank. Will continue to look elsewhere. I'm thinking a soft blue damask would look gorgeous with the dark wood.
Went to ACADEMY to get hubby some running shorts. He is jogging some. I am so impressed I could smile. He has the shoes and the ambition to jog. Also went to ALDI and Natural Grocers. Drove back to small town America to pick up the dried towels then take some grapes and cherries over to daughter's. Home we went to rest.
I believe that this week I will just take it easy as I know that I should not make any huge decisions as I am processing my dear cousins tragic deaths. I feel as if a huge part of my soul died on Saturday. I am at a loss. I am greatly saddened by her death and yet, she is in heaven. No better place then heaven.
HOW GREAT THOU ART. I listened to this tune today and I believe it is truly a beautiful song. Because God is great and greatly to be praised.
Quietly I sit and need to pray.
