A $10 TOMATO

The tomato plant that was purchased and planted produced 3 tomatoes.  Period.  

This one in this image split at the top.  My Grandma always covered her tomato plants before the heat of the day.  Hers didn't split.  They were delightfully good.  She was a HOMEGROWN GARDENER herself.    

Note to self:  Try again next year, but cover in the heat of the day with a tea towel like Grandma did way back when.

Note to self:  Don't forget to stomp on Tomato plants before they produce tomatoes or knock the plants silly with a broom.

Ending with this.  Hubby knew a guy that had the most prolific garden around with the most beautiful tomatoes.  His secret that he was willing to share was that he stomped his tomato plants before they starting producing the fruit.  Because Tomatoes have seeds they are considered a fruit.  They'd come back with a vengeance.  Big beautiful Tomatoes to enjoy.

Tiny Tomatoes

Remember the words to the song    TINY BUBBLES?
Ho Don sang, Tiny Bubbles in the wine, Make me Happy, Make me fine........

Well, TINY TOMATOES should have a song wrote about them.  Perhaps there is one and I haven't as yet heard it.  Theses tiny tomatoes found their way onto my plate on top of a Taco Salad.  They were delicious and MAKE ME HAPPY...MAKE ME FINE.

Crunch, chew and swaller.  Daughter shared her HOME GROWN Tomatoes with us.  

Nutritious and ORGANIC.

Pink Brandywine Tomatoes

Home Haven's small garden with only two types of tomatoes and peppers turned out well.

Last May when we bought a Pink Brandywine Tomatoe plant at a local farm, we had no idea what they taste like. We were told that they were a heirloom variety that would be ready late summer.

We've had a nice supply of these meaty, sweet-tart, old-time tomatoes that's a pink beefsteak fruit of exquisite flavor. We weren't disappointed with the taste. It was wonderful.

With as much rain as we had and cooler than normal temps, we weren't sure they'd turn out. But turn out they did. I'd like to have them again next summer.

They're more boat shaped than what we've been used to getting at the super market. Pink Brandywine's ancestry traces back to around 1889 and was more than likely introduced by seedmen Johnson and Stokes or a Amish heirloom named for the Brandywine River in Chester County, Penn.

If I were to rate them 1-10 with 10 being tops...I'd give them an 11 and a purple ribbon. The Good Lord knew what He was doing when He created Tomatoes.
I just luv 'em!
