Batman, where are you?
My week went fast as I was waiting for the week-end to have more hours in my day.
Waiting for it to flood, but the water levels went down some with the rains expected to come again this week. As I type the skies are grey. This is predicted to be another RAINY WEEK.
I continued to gather items about the house and garage to part with.
Did some laundry and as LIFE GOES... it's back.
AND screamed at a BAT that had entered into the LIVING ROOM on our Sunday night.
This time of year the bats migrate back to their places to rest.
Our carriage house was one such location.
We had the loft in the Carriage House professionally cleaned over the week-end. In prepping for this clean up my HUBBY and Son had to wire over eave openings of the structure to keep the bats out. After the professional cleaning, they will close off the interior areas. That will take place this month.
OVER THE YEARS the bats had made the CARRIAGE HOUSE LOFT a bathroom where bat guano was aplenty.

Ask nearly anyone, and you'll hear that bats (although beneficial in insect control) can be dangerous because they carry rabies. But a lesser known danger, and one that is not as easy to avoid, is histoplasmosis. Histoplasmosis is a disease you can get from exposure to bat guano (bat droppings).
Three years ago when we lived in our rock house, in the month of MAY we had a tornadic day where we left the cellar door open in case we had to make a mad dash for shelter safety. I was sitting playing on the computer with a sleeping husband on the sofa when I saw out of the corner of my eye a black bat flying about in our family room. Long story short, we had a bat inside the house and we were not happy about it. Think he came from downstairs. We managed to get him out of the house. END OF STORY WITH MANY FUNNY MOMENTS TO RECALL.
I had told my Son this story a day or two ago about how his Dad was in a sleep induced stupor when I screamed, "It's a bat!!!"
There is more to this saga that still makes me laugh out loud how my dear HUBBY talked in a soprano voice while 'coming to' out of his deep sleep.
The things we do when we are suddenly woke up out of a deep sleep. I had no idea that we'd be having another go at it with a BAT IN THE HOUSE. Once again I was on the computer and HUBBY was sleeping.
FAST FORWARD three years and a similar event takes place except this go round I COMPLETELY FREAKED OUT because the bat continued to dive at me as I sat in my recliner with my feet elevated up, headphones on my head with a laptop computer in my lap in which I couldn't get up. I screamed out of my head like a little girl and kept screaming like a lunatic. I had a difficult time stopping the screaming. It was like I opened a big can of a deep screams that kept erupting out of my belly. Stop already. But couldn't. I came unhinged.
When I saw this bat out of the corner of my eye I had the thought that's a bat....is that a bat or a bird? A bat? A BAYT. No, that cannot be a bat. That's a bat. Not again. NOT HERE. A BAT. A bat? A BAT!!!!
I screamed and screamed and screamed as I waved my laptop computer at it as it flew about my head. My Husband had already gone to bed and I was hollering at him to come downstairs. There's a BAT!!!! A BAT!!!! A BAT!!!!! HELP.HELP.HELP.
HELP meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.
I'm alright with saying that I do not care how much of a pansy I appeared to be. I do not LIKE BATS inside my home diving at my head. I do not like BATS PERIOD.
Tree Huggers can say all they want to about how much benefit comes from BATS eating mosquitos and helping the environment, but I. DO. NOT. LIKE. BATS.
This little guy was a brown bat. I learned that if you have a bat inside your home and want to catch him, go stand by the wall. Seems bats fly higher above you when next to a wall and fly lower in the center of the room in a U shaped pattern.
When you have your feet elevated and cannot get out of the recliner chair you are sitting in waving a computer over your head...the standing by the wall theory is a pipe dream. I can't get up little alone go stand by the wall.
Hubby came downstairs from being asleep hearing me screaming, "It's a Bat!!!" He opened the french doors that go into the screened in porch where the BAT flew into the attached area to get away from a crazed woman screaming and waving a grey object at him.
I made my way upstairs shaking like a big overgrown leaf that had turned ghost white. I shook a long while before my heart stopped pounding as hard as it were in my chest.
Hubby believes this BAT came into the house through the heater/fireplace area. Earlier in the day he closed an area where fireplace ashes go that's in the crawl space of the house. This is the only area we believe this BAT could have come from as he was looking for a new residence due to the CARRIAGE HOUSE being closed for use. No vacancy.
I grew up in southwest Kansas where we did not have issues with BATS. This part of KANSAS where I live now isn't like that. BATS are present here in huge quantities.

The bat is mentioned three times in the Bible, twice in the list of unclean creatures and once in a passage in Isaiah, describing the end of all idols. Evidently it was thought a very doleful sort of creature and this is not surprising when we think of its looks. It is a mysterious thing because most people have never seen one and lots of people think it is a bird. Bats are to be found mostly in eastern countries. By day they sleep in temples, caves and tombs and at dusk come out in clouds to scour the surrounding country. Naturally, because they seemed to like ruins, graves and desolate places they got a bad name amongst the ancient people. There were lots of superstitions about them. Some thought they were devils and witches. Some of the Chinese and some of our own people like to eat a kind of bat that lives on fruit. The Hebrew name for bat means "that which flies in the dark."
Leviticus 11:19 King James Version (KJV) 19 And the stork, the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.
Leviticus 11: 19
13 “And these you shall detest among the birds; they shall not be eaten; they are detestable: the eagle, the bearded vulture, the black vulture, the kite, the falcon of any kind, every raven of any kind, the ostrich, the nighthawk, the sea gull, the hawk of any kind, the little owl, the cormorant, the short-eared owl, the barn owl, the tawny owl, the carrion vulture, the stork, the heron of any kind, the hoopoe, and the bat.
Deuteronomy 14:18 And the stork, and the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.
12 But these are they of which ye shall not eat: the eagle, and the ossifrage, and the ospray,
13 And the glede, and the kite, and the vulture after his kind,
14 And every raven after his kind,
15 And the owl, and the night hawk, and the cuckow, and the hawk after his kind,
16 The little owl, and the great owl, and the swan,
17 And the pelican, and the gier eagle, and the cormorant,
18 And the stork, and the heron after her kind, and the lapwing, and the bat.
19 And every creeping thing that flieth is unclean unto you: they shall not be eaten.
Isaiah 2:20 King James Version (KJV) 20 In that day a man shall cast his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which they made each one for himself to worship, to the moles and to the bats;
