Master Bedroom

I'm going to try really really hard to remember how I decorated ALL THE MASTER BEDROOMS I've had through the years with my husband.

Have no pictures to show you...just words of description.  This will be a good exercise for pulling out information from my memory banks and blowing away some mental cobwebs.

YOU MIGHT THINK THAT WITH SO MANY MASTER BEDROOMS WE'VE HAD THAT WE WOULD HAVE MASTERED DECORATING THIS PARTICULAR ROOM.  WISHFUL THINKING.  IT SEEMS TO MORPH INTO SOMETHING DIFFERENT EVERY TIME.  CHANGE OF NATURAL LIGHTING, SIZE OF ROOM, MENTAL OUTLOOK ON LIFE, etc.

Life goes on and so does the decorating!

Number 1
Wichita, Kansas
Newly weds living upstairs in a furnished two bedroom apartment in red brick two story building.  The master bedroom had a double size bed.  I cannot recall the color of the walls or if it had wood floors or carpet.  The bed would be made up with sheets, blankets, green velvet bedspread and pillows that were wedding gifts.  There'd be a window unit to cool the apartment.  All I can remember is that the room would be icy cold in the summer because of the window air conditioner and brutally cold in the winter.  The heating in this apartment was shared.  The people in the downstairs apartment had control over how much heat they got.  If they closed the vent thingy, we got no heat at all.  This would be the case.  We froze.

Number 2
Guymon, Oklahoma
Short stay with in-laws while we found a rental house to live in.  The room was furnished with a antique bedroom set and I don't recall the bedding, etc.

Number 3
Liberal, Kansas
Bedding etc. were wedding gifts.  I saw a headboard in a Better Homes and Garden Magazine that we mimicked the best way we could.  Black headboard with different shades of brown wood blocks glued or nailed to basic black headboard.  Very contemporary looking.  Can't recall bedroom color theme.

Number 4
Hugoton, Kansas
Rental Home with same bedding on double bed.  Soft pink walls.  Old fashioned carpet with large flowers in print.  Scandinavian Bedroom Set.

Number 5
Hugoton, Kansas
Our first mortgaged House to make our HOME in.  Soft pink walls and wood floors.  Same Scandinavian bedroom furniture and bedding.

Number 6
Liberal, Kansas
Three children by now.  Master bedroom with iron headboard.  Colorful quilt and white pillow shams on bed.   Yellow walls?  Bright gold SHAG carpet.

Number 7
Omaha, Nebraska
Same furniture.  Made blue balloon shades for the first time.  Light blue bedding.  Light blue walls and crystal chandy.  Hardwood floors.  Trying for a Laura Ashley look.

Number 8
Liberal. Kansas
Bought a KINGSIZE bed!!!  Peach colored wall papered walls.  Stitched linen balloon shades and bought an off white bedspread.  Still kind of a Laura Ashley look.

Number 9
Kingwood, Texas
Stayed here for a short time while our house dealings closed.  I don't remember the decor.

Number 10
Spring, Texas
Lavender colored walls and soft beige carpet.  Same furniture.  Same off white bedspread and balloon shade I made.  Laura Ashley???

Number 11
Marion, Kansas
HUGE floral wallpapered walls.  Wood floor then carpeted.  Same furniture.  IN SHOCK...left gorgeous Spring, Texas house for temporary housing in rental.  Sold Scandinavian Bedroom Furniture.

Number 12
Tulsa, Oklahoma
Carpeted floors, white walls.  Shabby Chic all the way.

Number 13
Jenks, Oklahoma
Painted Wreath Green walls, multi-colored green carpeted floor.  Oversized Bed Comforter with light blues, whites, peach and greens.  White bed ruffle and shams.  Antique oak wardrobe, antique cedar chest,  wing chair, kingsize bed with no headboard.  Then bought bedroom furniture of cherry wood four post bed with matching mirror and dresser.

Number 14
Manhattan, Kansas
Wall papered walls in bedroom then stripped it to paint the walls...this is terrible, I can't remember the color.  Same furniture with same bedding.  Wood floors.  White curtains.

Number 15
Farmhouse outside of Wamego, Kansas
Slate blue walls.  Oatmeal colored carpet.  Same bedroom furniture.  Color coordinated comforter with European pillows.  More Traditional looking.

Number 16
Present location in small town nestled in the Flinthills.  Old Stone house with thick walls.

Yellow walls.  Bedding has changed from Farmhouse comforter to red theme and now back to a soft blue and green comforter.  Same furniture.  Hard wood floors.  The ceiling is being worked on.  By Spring...will have medallion on ceiling with a chandelier.  Crown molding.  Walls will be wallpapered.  Room more than likely will have soft Latte, Chocolate Brown and White color theme.  Hope to stitch some balloon shade curtains made out of moire material.  Somewhere in here will have the wing chair recovered with a chocolate brown fabric.   Off white bedding.  More Traditional theme.

I think when we complete this Master Bedroom it will be one of my favorites.
The most important thing is that our Master Bedroom be a peaceful and relaxing place
where we sleep together.  That we go to bed at night not angry at one another.

~Deanna~

Ephesians 4:26
When angry, do not sin;
do not even let your wrath
( your exasperation, your fury, or indignation )
last until the sun goes down.

WELCOME To Our American HOME, Master Bedroom Clean-Up and Company Almost Here

When we were so much younger and could walk 3 miles under 45 minutes! Our youth would have come in so handy this past week-end if it could have only been.

So glad you've stopped by! Mother's Day has come and gone and I hope you had a very pleasant day even if you're not a Mom. My Husband, Daughter, Lil Miss and myself entertained company. I did have a wonderful day with my own Mom and Dad driving in from Marion, Kansas bringing Angel Food Cake with Strawberries for dessert. My Son, Daughter-In-Law, "Baby P" from Saint Louis and Tatyana from the country Belarus visited us for the week-end. I had a very, very , very good time!!!

My little camera is just about worn out from so much use this past year. I didn't get all of the pictures I intended to take, but I am thankful I got what I did. Some pictures completely washed out or there were lines in the picture. This was disappointing since I have never been so close to Buffalo. The zoom lense would have turned out some awesome PRAIRIE PICTURES...We stopped to view BUFFALO outside of Alma, Kansas. We were able to walk up to the fence where they were lying down. I'll have to see if Ryna will email me some pictures of them. Tatyana's country does not have Buffalo. Even though Kansas has them...it was a thrill to see them up so close. Powerful creatures.

When we were taking Family pics, my son didn't want the flash on when taking pictures of the Baby and I did my best to honor this. When the flash is turned off and I'm using natural lighting...many times the pictures turn out blurry.

Preparing for Company Wrap:
My Honey asked me what I wanted for Mother's Day and I told him HELP!!! cleaning the Master Bedroom. He BLESSED me with this request. Friday, my husband took a day off from work so we could completely clean the Master Bedroom, the upstairs Hallway and the Diningroom. You see...you could not walk through the room.
ALL THAT STUFF and MORE. NOT BRAVE ENOUGH TO SHOW YOU A BEFORE PIC...this probably would have completely broke the camera and caused you to go OH MY GOSH!!! LOOK HOW SOME PEOPLE LIVE. I think I'm in shock.

We worked and worked and worked and worked...please keep in mind during this time we were baby sitting 3 year old Lil Miss. She sat on our bed playing with my childhood Barbie Dolls, Midge and Scooter until her 'Naptime'. The old case that holds the dolls is filled with miniature Barbie doll clothes that she was able to dress the dolls in and pretend, pretend, pretend. This worked pretty well until nap.

When 4 o'clock came...we sighed...the bedroom was finished!!!!!! There were white roses and a candy bouquet on the night stand. A gift bag sat on the pencil desk. I lit a scented candle, sprayed febreeze on the curtain panels and put some Russian music on to play so that when Tatyana arrived hopefully she'd feel very welcomed in our American Home. I had made up the bed with freshly washed and dried 800 Thread Count Egyptian light blue cotton sheets. I switched out the red comforter with all the decorative pillows and went with a pastel colored floral print comforter with lots of fluff. Folded at the foot of the bed was a soft green and off white quilt. Matching decorative pillows were placed on top of the standard size pillows for sleeping comfort. My daughter took the red bedding and revamped her bed with it. I used one of my old comforters that wasn't being used. Recycled again! Doing my part for being GREEN...old, old comforters that just wrap around you like they know ya.

I WAS BEYOND RELIEVED when we looked at the room. A heavy sigh AHHHHHHHHHHH. We did it. We did it. Hubby moved onto clearing the hallway and I cleared the Diningroom table. By night time my body ached sooooo much. We worked like a couple of 25 year olds...but our bodies know the difference...ohhhhh do they ever.

A month or so ago I knew company was coming...with life going the way it was going...the bedroom was not ready to receive guest. We had been cleaning out the spare room and using the master bedroom as a staging station...the Master Bedroom was a disaster...so we had stuff all over in the Master Bedroom and upstairs Hallway. The Diningroom table was also a catchall. There seems to be a tendancy here to use this table for more than just eating at. When I return home from shopping or from a thrifty sale...the table holds the items til I put them elsewhere.
Early in the day 13 geraniums were planted for pots on the porch and the lawn was groomed. The Utility Room and Powder Room were tidied. Parlour checked over and the make-shift Kitchen cleaned as best as it could be. When Daughter got home from work...she tidied the Family Room and attacked her upstairs Apartment and Bathroom.

Last week was a busy one and I'm looking forward to a slower pace this week and actually getting the laundry caught up. It seems that with tending to other details the laundry piled up...but that's alright...I know full well that I can't do it all these days and I have to plan well in advance when company is coming. Even though you may know that you need to be working on cleaning long before they come, you may be working right up to the last minute...YES??? I don't like doing this, but sometimes that is the way it goes around HomeHaven. This go round my back aches even today and I am stiff in my muscles. This week I will hopefully give my legs and back a rest.

I didn't get all the Spring cleaning completed before our company came, but was celebrating in my spirit that the Master Bedroom took shape and I was not embarassed to allow Tatyana to sleep in this room. It actually looked like a bedroom by 4 PM and Guest would be arriving around 11.

I had my hair cut last Thursday and the beautician did a nice job, but by evening the Kansas winds had blown my hair out of shape. You can't tell it now that the beautician had it looking tamed! Today I look like a wild woman and that's no joke. Forgive me...I have to relearn how to style this bushy hair...some products just don't work with my hair texture and it SHOWS!!!! Please don't laugh too hard at me...Over the week-end I was so busy that I didn't have time to stlye it...it looks a fright in the pictures. Late Saturday Night I put my hair in a pony tail and my daughter said NOOOOO NOOOOOO NOOOOO! You look like a porcupine. Haha. NOT GOOD. Down came the hair and out came the bushy and windblown hair. A typical BAD HAIR DAY. Pictures later?

The trials.

On Thursday as I walked away from my hair appointment...I said I needed a MIRACLE getting the house ready...I got my miracle in that department....now for this hair. Life is for learning huh.

God bless and may you have a pleasant week.

Luv ya,
~Deanna from the windy Prairies and my hair looks like it~

PS So young and so in love. It helps!

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

“Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.”

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

By wisdom
a house is built,
and through understanding

it is established;
through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

and beautiful treasures.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
