Went By The Old Neighborhood.....

Went by my old neighborhood and to my surprise the house across the street was torn down.  Completely plowed.  What....where'd she go?  GONE.  The house was old and had been on the market for a few years.  Wasn't selling.  She sat on an oversized lot.  SOmebody will have a nice size lot to build a new house on.

Years ago I had THOUGHTS about buying that house and using the large yard for a HUGE flower garden.  We no longer live on that corner of 4th and Illinois and that's that.  I wasn't ready to leave that corner, but a house fire dictates more than dreams about a garden.

I've had to move on.  For the best.  Still have fond memories of the place.  When relocating in the neighborhood of 20 times over a 44 year marriage, some places are well remembered.  I've changed, the houses have changed, the situations have changed, etc.  With Hubby moving into retirement age, I have much to do to prepare for this phase of life.  Lord willing if we get to enter into this time.

Goal driven is slow business for me,

Went Well

HAD TROUBLE FALLING ASLEEP.
Think the house being in a uproar has something to do with this.
Hanging on knowing that this too shall pass.
Sometimes just not quick enough to suit me.
Am human on autopilot at times.

WISH I HAD A HELPER LIKE THIS!

I rested, got groomed, dressed, filed paperwork, listened to workmen in the living room, washed a few dishes, got in my Husband's way, ran an errand, unloaded some groceries, looked up my pot roast recipe, blogged and ate chocolates.  Oops.  I was not a good girl as I overdosed on milk chocolate chocolates.  Only do this twice a year so I cannot be too hard on myself.

Russell Stover CHOCOLATE COVERED NUTS
Handcrafted in Small Batches.  Shucks.
Just so good I can hardly stand it.
Can I just say that if I'm going to be a piglet twice a year
that it will deliberately be on this brand of candy.
There I said it.
      Oink oink.

As I drove the interstate I admired the trees that decorate the landscape of the Flint Hills.  Signs of AUTUMN.  Cooler temps to breath in.  Take in a deep breath of KANSAS air.
Cool, crisp and refreshing.
UNLESS THE WIND IS COMING OUT OF THE WRONG DIRECTION AND THEN
THE SCENT OF COW CAN OVERPOWER YOU TO WHERE YOU HOLD YOUR NOSE
AND CROSS YOUR EYES.

TODAY IT WAS REFRESHING.

After my errand was accomplished, I stopped by BED BATH and BEYOND with coupon in hand to purchase pillow protectors and look at their sheets.  Bed sheets.  Beautiful bed sheets.  The higher the thread count the tighter the weave and better quality the sheet should be.  The sheets I was looking at were a 500 count and oh so soft.

I want to look at a few more locations this week and see if I can do better on the price for a set of full size sheets for the Victorian bed.

I proudly walked out of the store with a pair of pillow protecters for a great price.  Drove home and rested like a tired old woman needing a nap.  Closed my eyes for a spell.  Will dream.

I tried my brown comforter on the master bed.  Disappointed.  This thrift item will be used on another bed as it isn't quite long enough on the overhanging sides.  Will return the grey comforter to our bed this week.  Tis alright because the temps are beginning to cool off and the coziness of the heavier comforter is wise and comfortable.  The brown comforter will be put to use elsewhere.

On the look out for soft blue comforter with shams as well.  When I do find that soft blue bedding, I will have to seriously think about buying it to transform our bed into a soft puffy cloud to sleep on.  Bed, Bath and Beyond had very nice soft blue sheets.  Made me think about upping new sheets for the master bed, but first I need full size for the Victorian bed.  Discipline.  Stay focused.

And so I shall,

JoJoBa OiL

ONCE UPON A TIME I had Jojoba Oil in my medicine cabinet.  Went on a shopping adventure trying to find some that I would not have to have shipped to me.  Finally found some in TOPEKA at the health food grocery store.  Right there on the shelf was DESERT ESSENCE.  It was Desert Essence that I had years ago and this is what I wanted to return to.

Decided that I did not want to use so many chemicals on my face.  Step One.  Step 2.  Step 3.  Step 4.

SIMPLICITY.

EVENING SKINCARE: Just 5 warm water splashes then suds up gentle facial soap in hands and rub on face.  Rinse face with 7 warm water splashes ending with 5 cool water SPLASHES.  Pat dry.
MORNING ROUTINE:  5 splashes of warm water to face, 5 splashes of cool water to face and a dot of Jojoba Oil onto palm of hands.  Rub onto face upwards.
DONE.
AFFORDABLE.
HEALTHY.

* Nutritious for skin: Jojoba contains nutrients like Vitamin E and B, as well as antioxidants and several essential minerals which hydrate, nourish and protect skin. Organic jojoba oil has the highest level of antioxidants and nutrients. Jojoba has properties that speed up cell regeneration.

* Moisturizes skin: Jojoba oil is lighter compared to other oils and absorbs easily into the skin. It softens the skin and adds a healthy glow, by providing moisture and nourishment, and leaves the skin looking fresh and youthful. Jojoba oil also treats sunburn and prevents irritation.

* Relaxation and stress relief: Jojoba oil has many healing properties. Specially, the lavender jojoba oil has a calming, earthy, lightly sweet and freshly floral scent, which is widely beloved for its relaxing and balancing effects on both the physical and emotional bodies. It can improve sleep if a few drops are poured on the pillow.

* Acne control: Acne develops when the hair follicles get blocked due to excess sebum production. Being a liquid, jojoba oil can penetrate deep into the hair follicle. It can dissolve the sebum deposits, resulting in clearing out the blockage.

* Discard frizzy hair: A common problem in summers is frizzy hair. Jojoba oil softens your hair, locking the tresses against unwanted moisture and preventing frizzy hair. At the same time, it works as a natural replacement for essential moisture of the scalp and strands, which is often taken away by the harsh chemicals present in shampoos.

Will give it a go.....
BLESSINGS TO YOU THIS FINE AUTUMN DAY,
d

WELP.....help.

Welp....help.

Is it Friday yet?  grins.  Wish it were.  Tis easier for me to take the week-ends right now than a week day with all the dust from remodeling.  Sigh.  This too shall pass.  I keep imagining when the room is finished and tidied again.  There is HOPE it will happen by the end of October.  WISHFUL THINKING perhaps.  Wood flooring comes in October 2nd, but first the underlayment must be laid.  Shutters come in November 2nd then installed.  Perhaps then I can go ahhhh just in time for THANKSGIVING.  What a blessing to have all of this completed by professionals.

Before dishes and glassware return to the china cabinets all will have to be washed, dried then placed inside cabinets that will have to be cleaned as well.  SPRING CLEANING in AUTUMN.

The ceiling that's up has to be installed, taped, patched, SANDED, primed and painted.  The white powder goes everywhere when sanding even when plastic is hung up to contain dust in one area.  Coordinating when the floor layers come to avoid the painters has taken some effort.  Hubby has coordinated this like a pro.

Dishes and glassware removed from furniture.
Shuffle furniture out of Living room
meaning the Entry way, Dining room
and Kitchen are crammed with items.

Hubby puts 18 pounds of special screws
into old sub-flooring/underlayment.
Floor layers came in to lay the wood flooring
which still had a squeak when installed.
Decided to change type of flooring.
Decided to lay another sub-flooring down.
Floor layers will return.

Painter's tape a plus.
Painting trim and windows before new shutters
are installed in November.

Electrician works at wiring ceiling
so Chandelier will light the room.

Ceiling installers unload sheetrock for new ceiling.

i klean up okay???

Take a deep breathe and say ahhhhh.
Ceiling is getting painted and crown molding replaced.

Will be ever so HAPPY when finished,

1950's Housewife

Hello blogland friends.  I took a facebook test to see where one ranks as a 1950's HOUSEWIFE.  Welp....I missed more questions than I thought I would.  Oops.

whhhhhaaaaaahhhh.

Funny.....I failed more questions than I thought I would???
That's not funnay.
Oh well.  What do 'THEY' know?

I knew high dollar name brands, tricky techniques,
how to juggle bills, and handy dandy current events of the time.
What else would a 1950's housewife possibly need to know
to pass their test?

Apparently more than I could give.

Chin up.  Brush myself off.  Swish my hair out of my eyes.
Try again in the morning,
d

Lamentations 3:22-23 King James Version (KJV)

22 It is of the Lord's mercies that we are not consumed,
because his compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

I flunked the test.  I'd better read the book......

Darling, You're HOME!!!

Chores caught up, Supper's in the oven,
bills written out, laundry's done, mail's read.
Time for an afternoon break.

So I flunked the test.
Am I unhappy about that?
Nah.

A little coffee will do.
BLESSINGS TO YOU!

In A Nutshell

Across the Prairie are wide open spaces
in which you can see for miles on end and
dream about days gone by.

I did dream and remembered.

Our mini-vacay
was a little heaven on earth.
We celebrated our 44th Wedding Anniversary
at the Clover Cliff Ranch Bed and Breakfast.

On our way across the countryside
we saw a huge greenhouse
growing MUMS like there was no tomorrow.
MUMS babee.

Drove to a GHOST TOWN.
Cedar Point, KS.
At one time it had to have been a sweet little town
on the Prairie.

Today it's what it is.

Country sights to see.

CUPID.

Clover Cliff Ranch on the Kansas Prairie.

The Prather room.

7 o'clock supper in Cottonwood Falls, KS at the
GRAND CENTRAL HOTEL and GRILL.
Salad and Steak to celebrate.

The BEST Onion Rings I ever did EAT.  Not greasy.
Delicious dip.
We liked them so much we went back the next day and had some more.

An evening walk down by the river.

Slept like a baby in the Prather room.

Morning meal in the sunny Veranda.

 Time to sight see.
Chase County KS. Courthouse in Cottonwood Falls to tour.

Antique Shops to visit.

Cooled off in the heat of the day at the Ad Astra
with Creme Brulee and a water.

Back to the room to relax and cool off.

My Special Someone took a NAP.

Later, a good nights sleep.

Breakfast in the morning at the Pavilion.
Lovely view over looking gentle rolling hills.

After our walk, we had to pack and say good-bye.

Happy Anniversary to us.  Twas dreamy.
I was not ready to head HOME,
but did.

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

By wisdom
a house is built,
and through understanding

it is established;
through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

and beautiful treasures.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
