DAY LILIES AND JESSE OWENS

Internet Source

AS I LOOK OUT THE KITCHEN WINDOW, I can see the flowerbed where the orange Day Lilies are.  They are fading as they have hit their zenith.  Closing up shop as some would say.  I really think I need to divide the bulbs and locate some of the lilies elsewhere in our small yard.  Back behind the garage comes to mind.  A few beside the front porch would be nice, but I'm not sure it's sunny enough for them.  I'll give it a try anyways.

I need so badly to trim the Lilac Bush that's in the side yard.  Dead branches hide amongst the greenery of leaves.  Tomorrow, I WILL trim a few branches away.  Just a few.  The bush is developing into a tree which is fine with me.  TODAY, I have other plans and won't be able to give it the attention needed.  A well groomed and tended GARDEN is a beautiful thing to walk in.

First, we must get better settled before working diligently on shaping up the yard and flowerbeds.  We are not in maintenance mode yet.  The day shall come, surely.

YESTERDAY WENT WELL.  I didn't go to town, but stayed in the neighborhood.  Hubby drove me to the track and I walked a mile very slowly.  It was a tad bit difficult this time as it has been a few weeks since I walked due to flu and being on the go.  I was so slow.  With a beet read face and sweaty body, after I finished I proudly said, "I did it."  This time it felt like an accomplishment.  As I walked around the track, I took the time to visit with God about LIFE.  I thought about the young athletes that participate in track and field events.  The runners are incredibly fast.  Even those that come in last are athletes.

Cooled off by riding in the car with the window rolled down.

Before we went to the track, we picked up lots of oak leaves that had blown into the yard by the strong winds from a few days ago.  Believe there was rotation in the clouds which means a tornado was in the sky above our community.

These oak leaves came from somewhere we did not know as there are no oak trees near by.  The tree trash was picked up and bagged.  We'd take it to the landfill later after I walked as well as to go to the storage unit to check on things, pick up the mail at the Post Office and go to the Dollar Store to buy a birthday card for a friend.  As I picked up the leaves I was reminded that we need to work really hard at getting our lawn and yard beautified.  It will go on the TO DO LIST in the FALL.

Right now, the storage units need emptied.  I believe if I worked a week on one of the units, I could have it emptied in that week.  It's just finding the time to do this that delays the project.  First comes the interior of the COTTAGE.  Looking about the unit was not so overwhelming this time.  I could see with a clearer attitude that this is not the end of the world.  I can manage to deal with it.  If I trim some of the Lilac Bush's branches, load them in PETE, our PT Cruiser that we use like a truck, drive the tree trash to the landfill then buzz by the storage unit to work, I could get quite a bit done in a couple of hours and that would lift my spirits.

The Living room is looking great.  PTL.  I worked on it yesterday.  I'll run the vacuum this morning and dust in the next few days.  A DEEP CLEAN needs to happen.

We watched a DECENT movie last night.  The 2016 movie RACE.

Race is a 2016 biographical sports drama film about African-American athlete Jesse Owens, who won a record-breaking four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympic Games. Directed by Stephen Hopkins and written by Joe Shrapnel and Anna Waterhouse, the film stars Stephan James as Owens, and co-stars Jason Sudeikis, Jeremy Irons, William Hurt and Carice van Houten.

In 1936, Hitler was on the throne and advancing his ARYAN RACE which he believed was a superior people with their blonde hair and blue eyes.  Hitler would congratulate the German athletes that won Gold medals, but when Jesse won a GOLD, Hitler disappeared from the stadium and would not shake his hand.  Later Hitler chose to wave at him.  He did acknowledge him.  It would be back in the STATES that Jesse was completely ignored by President Roosevelt who did not so much as send a telegram.  All white athletes were acknowledged from the White House.  The 18 Black Athletes were not acknowledged.  PAUSE.  No word of achievement for representing the United States of AMERICA.  Makes me ill.

In a time when Hitler was headstrong about developing a superior race, Jesse Owens was a far superior athlete than what Hitler had to offer at the Olympic Games.  Hitler believed Jews and Blacks were vermin that amounted to nothing.  How could a Blackman possibly be superior to his Hitler's people?  God made all people.  Hitler didn't seem to believe this.

So, Owens was not completely snubbed by Hitler. However, Owens did feel that he had been snubbed by someone: U.S. Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt. A month after the Olympic Games, Owens told a crowd, “Hitler didn’t snub me—it was [Roosevelt] who snubbed me. The president didn’t even send me a telegram.” Roosevelt never publicly acknowledged Owens’s triumphs—or the triumphs of any of the 18 African Americans who competed at the Berlin Olympics. Only white Olympians were invited to the White House in 1936. A number of explanations have been offered for the president’s actions. Most likely, Roosevelt did not want to risk losing the support of Southern Democrats by appearing overly soft on the race issue. The Black Olympians who competed in Berlin were not recognized by the White House until 2016, when Pres. Barack Obama invited the athletes’ relatives to an event in celebration of their lives and accomplishments.

Thinking about WHITE SUPREMACY.  Aryan groups.  KKK.  There are Aryan groups to this day.  When one begins to recognize the hand gestures given, it's disturbing to me what is really going on in our country.  Our present day political figures should not be ignored.

Actual race with Jesse Owens.

Magnificent form.

I watched actual footage of Jesse Owens running.  He was a magnificent athlete and example of excellence.  So many obstacles in his life before, during and after the Olympics.  A man with his talent and GOLD MEDAL winnings would have cashed in with endorsements making a very financially comfortable living in 2024.  Jesse was not as fortunate as today's athletes in this arena.  I believe by far he is one of the all time top athletes to ever live.

The race,

MOVIE REVIEW of 12 MIGHTY ORPHANS

 12

MIGHTY

ORPHANS

THIS 2021 MOVIE is well worth the watch.
Twelve Mighty Orphans: The Inspiring True Story of the Mighty Mites Who Ruled Texas Football.

The true story of the Mighty Mites, the football team of a Fort Worth orphanage who, during the Great Depression, went from playing without shoes, or even a football, to playing for the Texas state championships. Over the course of their winning season, these underdogs and their resilient spirit became an inspiration to their city, state, and an entire nation in need of a rebound, even catching the attention of President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The coaching of their success was Rusty Russell, a legendary high school coach who shocked his colleagues by giving up a privileged position so he could teach and coach at an orphanage. Few knew Rusty's secret: that he himself was an orphan. Recognizing that his scrawny players could not beat the other teams with brawn, Rusty developed innovative strategies that would come to define modern football.

A decent movie based on a true story with some tweaking for Hollywood entertainment that doesn't distract from a great storyline.  DECENT is difficult to find in today's standards of motion pictures and programming.

I'd watch it again and just might do that in a few days.  A very good movie in a world filled with unpleasant challenges that can wreck a person.

The worldly stage and society may treat you like trash, but you have value and worth and are meant to be here. You're not trash.  You have purpose and meaning.  You do matter.

HELLO DARLIN'

Hello out there in blogland.  Howdy from my Kansas corner of the world.  Late night thunder storm blew in as I was staying up late playing on the computer.  The wind was fierce.  The storm window in the bathroom did not stop the wind from blowing inside.  I said a serious prayer and the LORD heard me.  The wind stopped and I went to sleep.  Slept like a babee after I fell asleep.

Plans for the day.  I am slowing down.  Getting rested back up.  Spent some time with my retired Husband this morning.  Four and a half years have passed since he retired.  It does not register that this much time has passed.

I went down memory lane looking at old posts of mine.  Life moves forward and I must do the same.

Clearing off the dining room table again as it seems to be a catch-all.  Just gotta do this.

I have a plan.  Start in the Living room and clear the junk out, vacuum and dust.  Move into the Dining room and do the same.  Next the Utility room and Kitchen.  Then the small pink bedroom.  After this is done, then the mammoth mess in the front Bedroom will be tackled.  The garage and the storage units.  Sounds like a good plan for my SUMMER.

Oh my...the medical appointments are getting scheduled on my 'lil 'ole calendar.  The month of July is speckled with appointments.  Shucks.

I shredded years of our paper receipts, statements, old checks.  Wished I had kept them as it seems this paperless society is full of flaws depending on relying on the IN THE CLOUD proof of activity.  sigh.

Phone calls came in from the medical personnel to inform us of this and that.  Hubby had an actual Tuesday medical appointment with our doc about the stress test he took last week. Our doctor has not received the report from the ones who did the medical appointment.  Strike three you're out.

Hubs received a phone call from them saying there was no evidence of heart issues and yet our doc has not received the report.  So who actually telephoned my hubby?  He phoned the ones who did the stress test asking for a copy of the results.  He has to fill out a release form. The nice lady said she'd send it via email.  uh huh.  Shall see about that.

I'm a firm believer that our records need to be in order.

That phone call came in about the results of the foot MRI.  He'll have to return to the foot specialist so the MRI is explained to him and probably get a shot to help reduce inflammation.  I researched on the internet and came up with the term tarsal tunnel syndrome.  It sounds like the culprit.  Why the docs have not used this term, I know not.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tarsal_tunnel_syndrome

After two weeks of not hearing anything about the results of my ECHOCARDIOGRAM, I reached out to them via health portal also phone to inform them I hadn't heard anything.  They checked up on it to let me know something.  I requested a copy of the report 11 days ago.  Nothing.  I entered another health portal message and I do not think it went through.  hum.

When he checked to find out the status of our new car tag that would be mailed to us, the car tag was mailed to Topeka and just stayed there.  A new tag had to be ordered.  Another snag.  Waiting.

Mess-up on Hubby's heart stress test and results.  On the day of the actual test where he was to walk on the treadmill, the treadmill  messed up and they proceeded to do the test via chemically.  Hubby said this was painful.  Now the results are missing in action.
Mess-up on my echocardiogram.  Perhaps I will have to have a follow-up appointment at the docs in which he will tell me he has not received the results?
Mess-up on car tag.  Waiting for the tag AGAIN.  humph.

Hello Darlin' is anyone HOME?  Our efficient world isn't?  Perhaps I am just very spoiled and have no cushion for errors?  Guess I am going to have to grow an extra skin and not let it bother me so much. A tougher skin wouldn't be so bad, if it's pretty.  grins.

Forging along with everyday business.

We went shopping for groceries.  I had cleared out the veggie/fruit fridge beforehand and knew what needed to be purchased.  Lots of fruits and veggies.  I enjoyed a slow paced shopping trip and desire more of these.

Purchased three types of seedless grapes, peaches, grapefruit, pineapple juice, grapefruit juice, spring greens, carrots, peppers, potatoes, cherry tomatoes, onions, canned beans, bottled water.

A better plan for future dates.  If we go to the city to shop for the goods, we can head out early in the morning with list in hand arriving mid morning.  Go shop at the thrift shop then go to JASON'S DELI for a huge salad.  Rest a bit then go to the grocery stores.  Return HOME in the early afternoon to unload groceries and put away the spoils.  Rest again just in time for supper preparations.  We wouldn't be traveling in the dark this way and should have enough energy to put groceries away after getting HOME.  Many times we don't get HOME until after dark and are too tired to put groceries away.

Thinking about changes in the future.  Right now, I have just got to make some sense out of our messes.  Day dreaming is free, but it can get in the way of actually getting things done.  Know what I mean?

The Presidential DEBATE is scheduled to show Thursday night.  I wonder how many people will watch it?  Politics is a HOT POTATO around here.

PSALMS 34:17

Psalms 34:17

“The righteous cry,

and the LORD heareth,

and delivereth them out of all their troubles.”

How wonderful is that?!!!

Stand on HIS word and believe.

GOOD BYE DOC MERCOLA...

AS LIFE PASSES BY, I continue to tweak things as I go along.  Changes are continually happening.  A renewing of my mind in a better way.

Newest TWEAK is:  In the future, I probably will not purchase DR. MERCOLA anything.  Family members are concerned about him.  I loved his vitamins, but Dr. Mercola now believes he is the NEW JESUS.  He's convinced he is a god.  He uses a psychic Kai Clay for consultations that believes he hears from a ancient and wise high-vibration entity from the Casual Plane.  Dr. Mercola consulted this psychic before firing top executives who had close ties to  Judeo/Christian  beliefs.  His sister that helped form the company was fired. She's worked closely with her brother, Dr. Mercola for 40 years.

I had not closely followed Dr. Mercola through the years.  I was on his email list though and received email articles about a variety of things from politics to health.

Even went so far as to purchase bed sheets from his market because they were made with special cotton.  Thought about purchasing some clothing articles from his company that used the so-called safe COTTON that had not been sprayed with chemicals.

The chemicals sprayed on cotton plants cannot be washed out as it gets into the fibers and stays. I was contemplating getting some undergarments, towels and dresses through Mercola's Market. I will continue to hunt for safer things that don't have chemicals to wrestle with as a human being.  sigh.  The latest news I have been informed about makes me PAUSE about Mercola anything.

I'll be checking into different vitamin companies when purchasing my next order.  NOT SURE who I will use yet.  No longer MERCOLA vits.

I understand that when purchasing things, one does not always know first hand what the sellers believe or don't believe and it is up to me to DECIDE do I want to spend my money to support their company?

I had been a customer by mail ordering some of his vitamins.  As of today, I believe I will order from someone else as well as to continue purchasing from NATURAL GROCERS.

I watched a video of Dr. Mercola's about a month ago and thought he didn't look well.  His gestures were horribly exaggerated and he appeared way too skinny.  Has Doc Mercola gone over the edge?  I believe he has.  We all have an opinion about everything and that's alright.  We have free choices.  Nutritionally, he may know full well a better way, but spiritually he is out in the weeds as some would say.  I can stand back and watch the decline of Mercola's health.  Sorry, but I believe it will take place right before our eyes.

More To Follow

SAFELY HOME FROM A FEW DAYS AWAY.  Will rest on Monday before getting in high gear for the week.  We were in the St. Louis area and the traffic stresses me out.  I did the driving and the traffic was heavy.   Our poor car needs shocks changed so the car bounced like a tank.  We got around, but not without feeling the effects of a rough ride.  We managed to stay safe and got where we needed to go.  PTL.  Got HOME late SUNDAY night.  Tired from the traveling.  SO tired.  I am not a big city girl and it shows as I am the slowest one on the road as I honor the speed limit.  hum.

We stopped off at an antique mall and HUBBY purchased a birthday gift for me.  A beautiful IRONSTONE pitcher with the TEA LEAF pattern on it.  Mint condition.  I will have to come across the box that holds the vegetable dish with lid and the platter I have at the COTTAGE.  I placed the pitcher in the corner cabinet when I got HOME.  I have a few plates as well.  This is the new scavenger hunt I am doing as I piece together a collection of these dishes.

I hope to sleep in.  Sun comes up and I wake.  I will have to clean out the car, do some laundry and clear out the pile of things in the living room that needs put away.  Enough for a MONDAY.

It seems like our social life is going to medical appointments.  This week Hubby has follow-up appointment with family doc to discuss his chemical stress test he did last week.  It will be interesting to hear what the doctor has to say.  Still waiting for results for MRI on his foot.

If the foot doctor sends a patient over to get an MRI which is done in a different office, I don't think the doc gets the money for this as if he sees to it that the patient gets a cortisone shot in his office he gets money from this.  Hubby and I discussed this and it makes me wonder if this is the case.  The two orthopedic surgeons that saw him neither one wanted to do an MRI.

The first doc routed hubby to get orthopedic shoes and the second doc wanted to give him a shot over a MRI, but went along with an MRI.  I know that when tests are ran that the doctor is required to do something with the results of the tests and if a test is not ran, then the doc doesn't have to do something about the results because there are no results.  Ever wonder why you remain ill when there are test that could be ran to help diagnose the ailment, but the tests are not ran and you remain ILL???

Years ago I wanted to have extensive thyroid tests of a variety and my family doc commented about one of the test, reverse T3 that he wouldn't know what to do with the results.  I didn't understand what he meant at the time, but now I do.  I know that my endocrinologist APRN does not run test even when a patient feels rotten as long as the patient's TSH is within range they have done their job.  It's a racket.  It's taken me years to come to an understanding about why tests are not ran.  I will have to get very candid with my doctors when wanting additional test in my old age.  If a patient isn't diplomatic and kind, I believe the patient is flagged as DIFFICULT.  oops.

DIFFICULT WEEK

I HAD JOURNALED A LOT OF FEELINGS in a cheap spiral notebook.  Took me hours to get a grip on what has transpired over the years.  It was my time to deal with some pain. The LORD ministered to me as to why I have had so many unresolved feelings.  Fear.

Husband and I talked through the feelings attached to events through the years.  There was a link.  We talked about 5 hours solid.  Slept well and woke being better.

Hubby and I both have issues with not having thyroids.  He was due to have a lab done to see where he is at on his TSH.  He had a MRI on his foot that has been difficult to walk on due to dancing on a bean can in the snow last January.  He had a chemical stress test done and this made him sick.  So he had a blood draw for TSH, an MRI on his foot and a chemical stress test for heart.

I'll have my TSH checked again in 3 weeks when I have my yearly physical.  I have 3 weeks until then so I started the 21 day Daniel Diet again.  No tea this time.  No meat.  No animal products. No milk, bread, pasta, rice, cereal.  Hubby is doing it with me.  Lots of fruits, veggies, legumes, seeds and nuts.  Of course WATER.

We ate a huge salad for our afternoon meal at JASON's.  This evening for supper was meatless chili with three beans like kidney, chili and pinto.  This was delicious and we can do this restricted diet.

I weighed myself today to see where I am on the scales.  In three weeks, my yearly physical is coming up and I am hoping to have dropped a few pounds since I have changed my thyroid meds dose and eating more restrictive.  When the weight starts creeping up, I need to see if my TSH numbers are wonky.  I'm hypothyroid.

It's a bit much to have to pay so much attention to all the health issues.  Still have to have an interest in other things.  Still blessed.

The week was challenging, but believe it will be alright come SUMMER.  Hot temps are here. Fireflies, lemonade and fans.  Firecrackers, flags and home-made ice-cream.  Music, fried chicken, potato salad, baked beans.  Sounds like a decent Summer.  Some patriotic banners can be hung.  I know where they are this year.  grins.  I'll turn one year older come the 14th of July. It will be a Summer to remember.

I started watching the television series BILLY THE KID.  I couldn't help but think about the early days of America and the harsh reality of traveling across the country in hopes of a brighter future.  What we have now is far better than what the average person had in the late 1870s.  That present day saying, "Make America GREAT Again." reminds me that America is still GREAT. Hasn't stopped being great.  Such a long ways America has come and to say it isn't great makes me sad.  A brighter future arrived for the United States a while back.  Cannot you still see the greatness?

BREAKING

TOOK A BREAK.  Went to St. Louis to visit son and grandson.  Ended up needing some time alone for a few days after visit with son so I found a place to hang my hat for a few days. Praying to regain my strength.  I journaled my feelings.

Today, I am HOME.  Serious side affects.  I made the mistake of agreeing to leave our big house before the place we landed was appropriate for living in.  It is best to get settled into the next location before starting BIG PROJECTS.  I knew this before I moved into the cottage and ignored it.  I seem to do this a lot.

Going to change the course of action or vacate all together.  I have moved so many times it is a chaotic life.  My husband thrives on chaos, I do not.

Ready to rest at HOME before having a serious conversation with my spouse.

LIFE IN THE SLOW LANE

TODAY I WAS IN THAT LANE.  I managed to bathe, fold some towels to put away, have a very serious and very long conversation with my hubby, visit with daughter, and two grands.  I did some paperwork, took a nap, washed some dishes and researched on the internet. The TV never came on.  I took my dear sweet time on everything.  I was officially in the slow lane. No hurry.  I didn't get in the car at all.  No day trips.  Peace at HOME.

In the evening I fell asleep in my recliner.  Hubby kissed my forehead and said good night.  I woke later, washed some dirty dishes and couldn't fall back to sleep.  This will hopefully happen in a few hours.  Shall see.

I have some Father's Day cards to address.  I can do that and read.  Working on the computer makes me sleepy like a nap cap.

Making plans for the week-end already.  Father's Day and a son's 49th birthday are coming.  Not sure what I will do for Father's Day for my Hubby.

My earthly dad and father-in-law are in heaven.  I miss them.  In my head I can hear their voices with bits and pieces of conversations we had years ago.  One person can make a difference in this world.  I look at my husband knowing he is my children's dad.  The years of when they were little is long gone.  I am looking at a daddy that is getting close to 70 years of age.  His beard is nearly all white.  The hair he does have on the top of his head is salt and pepper colored.  He has a stoop these days and walks with a limp.  We are getting older by the minute.  We best make the best of it.

FATHER's DAY.  I have purchased my HUBBY a new belt and a really neat coffee cup with his initial on it.  Think I'll fill it with sugar-free candy. I have a nice greeting card for him.  Probably take him out to eat.  He'll like that.

What does a person do if they do not have happy and healthy memories of a earthly father?  A thought shift can take place.  Rejoice in a Heavenly Father that cares for you and desires good things for you.  I have to do this even today as I need encouragement to carry on.

I don't have memories of me climbing up into my daddy's lap as a child or being held by him.  I don't recall being told I had value and worth.  I was never told that I was pretty or looked nice.  I didn't hear that my dad loved me until I was about 34 years of age.  That verbal sound that resinated in my soul took a while to reach me.  I don't recall Dad telling me about God or Jesus or the Holy Spirit.  How to get born again.  That I was a someone worth saving.  I do my best to focus on the good things as best I can that did take place.  Think on the good qualities that my dad had.  If a father fails to give godly instructions, it's a tragic thing that may have eternal consequences.  I believe this contributed to being starved for attention and wanting to be noticed.

There are times I grieve of what I didn't have, but have to focus on what I did.  When those words of godly instruction were not spoken over you or to you what should one do?  Grab hold of what Heavenly Father has to offer with HIS PROMISES.  Amen.

I'm thankful for being able to have a LIFE in the slow lane these days.  Even if you're able to be in the fast lane taking time to pause and focus on God's instructions will be a blessing.  Take a deep breath and travel on.  Embrace the moment.

COOLER AIR IS BLOWING

HEAT INDEX IS SUPPOSE TO BE OVER 100 ON THURSDAY.
Our new air conditioning window unit is in place in the kitchen window blowing cold air and we are feeling the breeze into our small COTTAGE living room.  Very comfortable.  Think it's a go for now.  It will get a work-out later this week.

Yesterday, we went to TOPEKA to Menards as some things were needed so the installing of the window unit would be successful.  We had a wonderful late LUNCH, went to God's Storehouse to look around having a JUDEE peanut butter cookie and black tea then off to a grocery store.  I want to make the QUICK BLACK BEAN SALAD again this time putting some Vidalia onion in it, frozen corn and a big heirloom tomato that's diced to see if I like the recipe better.  Believe I will fix this for today's lunch.

On the way HOME from TOPEKA, we had a life lesson arise as we traveled.  Cell phone rang and a conversation started that didn't end the best.  When it comes to dealing with family drama, I do not always react very quickly.  Not fast enough on my feet.  It takes some time to sort through the details.  It takes some time to deal with the information that has been revealed.  I am not a robot and I don't dance to everyone's tune.  I have to decide for myself how to deal with situations that need additional attention.  I don't jump through other's hoops like I use to.  Being a people pleaser isn't always the correct way to respond to others who want to run the show.

It has taken me some time to talk through and not be affected by highly charged emotions from family.  Sometimes I am not the solution to their problem.  It's best that I don't react quickly to every thing that comes my way through a phone call.  It's for the best that I take some time to think about things and be slow to react.

Dr. Phil has said before that family is not an entitlement.  It's a privilege and that privilege can be taken away.

At the time I heard this, I wasn't sure I agreed with him.  I now agree with what he said about family.  It took years to get to this place.  Years.

Sometimes we have to separate from problematic personalities and chill a bit.  SO there are times we need to chill in a different way from just the air conditioner, huh?

Cooler air is blowing all the way around.  Amen and amen.

The Bible tells us to protect our hearts.
I'd better listen,

SUCCESSFUL STEPS TO BEING HEALTHIER

THE DELANY SISTERS.  Sadie lived to be 109 and Bessie 104.

I've written about 5 post already about THE DELANY SISTERS.  So impressed by their lifestyle and long lives they lived.  I own a few books by them, have read newspaper articles as well as watched YOU TUBE videos and watched a movie about them.

My imagination has some part in interpreting their life sketches.

At any rate, I know they did something very well to have lived as long as they did and be in very good shape as they were.

IN A NUT SHELL:

1) Christian women.
2) Sadie and Bessie lived in their own HOME that they were in charge of.
3) Boiled their water before drinking.
4) Drank cold water before taking garlic and cod liver oil and then when taking garlic and cod liver.  2 glasses of cold water together.
5) Drank hot water afterwards.
6) Exercised before eating Breakfast.
7) Took supplements and vitamins.
8) Took care of themselves.
9)
Washed their hands when entering their HOME.

IN A NUT SHELL I gathered this information and will share.

A word to older folks:

1. Keep your own calendar. The most important thing in your life is your time, and nothing will make you feel as helpless as having other people run it for you.

2. Manage your own money, but be careful about it. Pay your own bills and balance your checkbook for as long as you can. When the time comes that someone has to take a hand in your finances, make sure you understand everything he does. If other people take charge of your money, it's easy to lose control of your life.

3. Have your own doctor, who answers to you. If you don't, when the time comes that you get mixed up with hospitals, they'll treat you like a fool. You're bound to lose your health at some point, but you don't have to lose your dignity, too.

4. Don't depend too much on any one person. If you have a lot of helpers, you can be sure that someone will always be available when you need it.

5. Don't be too proud to accept your limitations. The hardest thing is discovering that you can't do everything the way you used to. But make sure you hire folks who do what you want. It's still your house, and you're still the boss!

As I have been sorting through old papers, I came across an article about the Delany Sisters both living into their 100s.

The Vitamins and supplements they took were Vitamin A,
Vitamin B Complex,
Vitamin C,
Vitamin D,
Vitamin E,
Zinc,
Tyrosine,
morning garlic
and cod liver oil.

They'd take their cod liver oil and garlic before Breakfast.
A glass of water before taking the cod liver and garlic.
A glass of cold water after and a glass of hot water.
They'd exercise then eat a Breakfast consisting of a scrambled egg, hard roll, some fruit, and oatmeal.
Lunch was a larger meal where they had beef, chicken or fish.
Supper was a large vanilla milkshake.

SUNDAY SNOOZE AND SHUFFLING SO SOON

A SPOT OF TEA

A NEW SERIES FOR A SUNDAY POST ON MONDAYS.  SUNDAY SNOOZE.  It's got a ring to it.  grins.  I didn't take a NAP on this Sunday.  Surprise and praise the LORD.  I was BLESSED to wake early, take my meds, do some paper work, dishes, shuffle some things.  I didn't take my morning walk or go to CHURCH.  I didn't even watch any service on-line.  A quiet morning.

Hubby shuffled some things in the KITCHEN to make room to open up the Kitchen window where the air conditioning unit will go.  I worked on dishes as he worked then I braved it by taking the tea out of the cabinet above the stove.  I have to find a temporary place for the crystal stemware that has been in the Dining room corner cabinet.  When I started unpacking some boxes, I came across a white with gold trim antique porcelain chocolate pot with demitasse cups and saucers that I wanted to display.  Space is very limited here so I had to stretch my bean to come up with a place.

I know I have another white porcelain chocolate pot with cups and saucers in a different box that I will display when I come across it.  Any who for the time being, I cleared out the tea cabinet above the stove and put the glasses there.  I think for now I'd be a happier person showing off the chocolate pots.  I'll find a place in the pantry for my stash of TEA.  That will come later.  It's shuffle this and shuffle that.

I've been looking high and low for important papers for our HOME OWNERS POLICY.  For the LIFE OF ME I cannot find all my papers.  I found a few, but not what I nearly need.  I greatly dislike my paperwork being out of order.  TERRIBLE.  It's like someone took all my papers and tossed them into the air and wherever they land is it.  Getting ALL the papers back in order is doable.  It's doable and I'm just the one to do it.  Get after it.

I started typing up a new list of our personal property to keep on hand so I know what we own. When I started typing it up, I was reminded that I have a few things.  PTL.  We are scheduled to visit with our insurance agent to review our policy on Monday at one.  As we downsize, it's a task to go from having much to scaling down to having so much less.  A skeleton.  Why bother to scale down?  Because I'm 68 and as I get closer to 70, I'm wanting to lighten the load so we settle in better here at the COTTAGE.  It has been one of the hardest moves I have ever gone through. Seven months here and we are not settled.  I'm allowing myself a year and a half for this task. Being gentle and extending some grace.  I know I have to stay on top of this, but I am allowing a slow pace process.  When I start to get irritated I remind myself to slow down and be real.  I'm no young chick anymore.  This is a reality.

MONDAY.  As we finished our insurance appointment we were getting into our car and we saw a man in a motorized cart tip over and he hit the sidewalk.  We walked over to help him as two other women were as well.  As we were helping his wife get him back in his cart, one of the ladies said to me HELLO DEANNA.  She had sunglasses on and I did not recognize her at first. My mind drew a blank.  I think this must be kind of like having amnesia where you do not recognize people.  Her name finally came to me, but this was my Senior moment for the week.  It was an awkward moment that I hope doesn't repeat itself.  Scary.  The gentleman made it back into his cart and off he went.

We went to the bank to purchase some TWO DOLLAR BILLS
and lucked out getting some newer ones that have not been circulated very much.  Drove to the DOLLAR STORE so I could get some Father's Day CARDS.  I want to get these into the mail on Tuesday. Went HOME and rested. There's that NAP.  Sipping some iced tea and getting ready to put some more things away.

Looking at my calendar as it is beginning to fill up for the rest of the month.  With my TSH out of range, I cannot seem to handle stress as well as I need to.  Cranky.  Tired.  It will take 6 weeks to get it back to the place it needs to be.  I don't know why my TSH will not stay at a good place. Maddening.

Hubby is still working on getting the window unit installed.  He prepared the area and the window.  Now the actual unit will go in.  Ready for some cool air circulating in the house.  He's still working on the bathroom tile.  He's so close to being finished.  He's one busy retired man.

I'm still shuffling our belongings.  What a wonderful job to keep me busy.  Making this COTTAGE a HOME is a full time JOB.  I can continue to be HAPPY this is my lot in LIFE!

Remind me to stay out of politics.  It's a hot potato.  I know I'm older than ever before, but I have NEVER seen so many American citizens ready to attack people not affiliated to their party on both sides of the aisle like they have 4 years ago and now.  Like a rabid dog going for your jugular vein.  THE COME LET US REASON does not exist.  Perhaps it's always been this way and I didn't know it where the people have gotten so angry.  It's better to stay at peace then to ruffle their feathers.  Walk away and be alone in the hills to pray like Jesus did.

The week is off to a start.  If I can get the dining room table cleared off, the Father's Day cards in the mail, my oldest son's Birthday card in the mail, laundry done, carpet vacuumed, kitchen floor scrubbed...I will be a happy camper and of course some more shuffling done.  The air conditioner unit is going in and the bathroom tile going up!  All makes for a wonderful LIFE.

The Quickest Black Bean Salad

I CUSTOMIZED MY ATTEMPT TO MAKE THIS QUICK BEAN SALAD. I didn't dice the grape tomatoes in mine and I think if I do this again I will dice a large tomato so the tomato flavor is all around the salad.  I added arugula and chick peas as well.  OOPS...I forgot the onion.  That would have added some extra taste.  The salad was okay and I had seconds.  I guess, you just have to make some and try it.  I thought the flavor was alright, but I didn't like the water chestnuts at all.  I think these should have been chilled.

First attempt at Quick Black Bean Salad.

Arugula.

Rinsed Water Chestnuts.

Rinsed Black Beans.

Getting started mixing ingredients.

Grape Tomatoes.

Rinsed Chickpeas.

Canned corn.  Frozen probably would have been tastier.

Cilantro.  I have never used so much cilantro in a salad before.

I added LIME JUICE, lemon zest and Balsamic Vinegar for zing.

Whaalah.  Quick Black Bean Salad that was not quick for me to make.

There was enough left over that I can have another salad for LUNCH.  That will be quick.

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

“Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.”

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

By wisdom
a house is built,
and through understanding

it is established;
through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

and beautiful treasures.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
