'Life Just Got A Little Easier' Deviled Eggs

HOME HAVEN DEVILED EGGS

 

Slice Hard Boiled Eggs into two halves.  Empty yolks into small bowl.

Make yolk mixture by mashing yolks with fork till crumbly then add pinch of salt, pepper and sugar.  Mix well.   Add tablespoon of vinegar, mayo, and teaspoon of mustard.  Mix well.  May want to whip mixture with blender for creamier texture. 

Place egg halves in Deviled Egg Dish.  Fill halves 

with yolk mixture.  You can fill the eggs by using a spoon.  Sprinkle with Paprika!

Some sprinkle with Parsley or Black Pepper.  To your liking.  A sprig of a herb dresses them up.

Life just got a little easier in a hurried world.
Traditionally, I like making Deviled Eggs for Easter and Thanksgiving.  No left overs. 

My Mom's Yolk Filling Recipe is made with vinegar, salt and pepper.  Her eggs turn out with a stiffer filling, but are very tasty.

That's A Crock

It's almost 2 in the morning.  I fell asleep on the sofa Monday evening and could have just stayed there for the whole night.  I woke up, did a few dishes, put away the evening soup we had for supper.  Waiting for a cold blast to dump another round of snow.  

I opened the front door to see if it were snowing.  Other places in the area did receive snow and wind.  Not here.  I wonder if we'll be ignored.

Much earlier in the day, there must have been a dozen Red Robins in our backyard.  Lil Miss counted them and I could hear them singing.  As I walked out to the car, the birds were very noticeable.  Their chirping was soooo loud I thought I was at the Zoo.  They think it's Spring.  It was freezing out this past week-end, but the birds were taking bird baths in the puddles of sloppy water.


The week-end was a  b u s y one.  My 'ole body screams with extra sore muscles after I moved boxes while helping a friend relocate.  Though I didn't do heavy lifting, my body thinks it did. When week-ends are busy I encourage taking Monday nights off.  

We usually have Tacos for Monday suppers.  Today, I had Homemade Vegetable Soup warming in the Crock Pot when my Husband entered the house after a long work day.  

Tasted pretty gooooood.  Daughter brought Garlic Bread home with her to add to the soup.  Was good.  I have used my Crock Pots more than ever since moving into this house.  They've made a believer out of me.  

On Sunday, I cooked a Pork Loin with veggies in one.  Great Meal if I do say so myself.  Sunday's left over veggies became Monday's Veggie Soup.  I added a large can of diced tomatoes with juice and 2 cans of mixed vegetables to the basic stock.  Red potatoes, carrots, celery, corn, tomatoes and green peas made up this meal.

I hope to make up the Guest Bed with fresh sheets and tidy the room in the morning.  I'm running behind on correspondences.  If it snows more, my trip to town will have to wait until later in the week.  I'd like to get started on making Easter Baskets for the Grandchildren.  Not sure this will be the week I get started on that or not.  Easter is at the end of March.  Have some time in order to get this done.  If I'm not careful the week will fly right on by. 

I received an email about the Junior League Sale that is coming up March 30th.  I think this is a mistake.  That's Easter Week-end.....the girls putting this on will be having their sale clean-up on Easter.  Not good.  I'll have to be on the watch in the newspaper.  I'm sure this date will be changed.  Each year this Sale is one of the biggest and bestest sales.  It's always fun to shop this one.  For sure.

I didn't watch the Academy Awards this year.  Our tele doesn't pick up ABC.  I couldn't help but read some of the b u z z on the computer about the dresses.  Heidi Klum's dress is pretty much what the media culture encourages women to undress in.  Very little modesty...very little front to this dress.  What's a woman to do?  Cover up?  Gee, Heidi. 

It speaks volumes about the day and age we're living in.  She'd freeze here on the Prairie.  Suppose she knows that?  Don't suppose she'd really care.  In 40 years, if the Lord should tarry, do you suppose anyone will know who she is or was?  That would be a generation. 
  

Michelle O b a m a  made a virtual appearance to announce Best Picture.  I had heard that the o b a m a  administration had shared confidential information for the filming of ARGO.  Hummmmm.  Is that true or is that a crock?

What's a FIRST LADY doing announcing Best Picture?  She wanted to commend the efforts of making Films.  Hummmmmmm.  Why....Big money? BIG $$$ MONEY.  Hollywood has biggggggggggggg money.

If you have enough money to produce a film, you can direct it and act in it all at the same time.  Hummmmmm.  Seriously, all at the same time.  Seriously, that's not a crock.  Seriously.  AND if you're rich enough....excuse me....want to promote big money...the FIRST LADY just might announce that you're the winner.  Surprise!  

Surprise!  She might even dance for you.  Saw it on youtube.  That's no crock.    

The making of films has been around longer than I have.  I've lost interest in all the glitz and glamor.  Hummmmm.  Back to the drawing board.

God is in control.  When the weather gives cause for staying indoors away from Town, I should relax about it.

'LIFE JUST GOT A LITTLE EASIER' HOT CHOCOLATE MIX

My Mom's Recipe that I want to Share.

This stores and keeps for a long time.

INGREDIENTS for 8 Quart  Supply

8 Quart Box of Powdered Milk 

2 pounds Nestle Quick Mix

1 (6 oz.) Jar Coffee Mate

2 Cups Sifted Powdered Sugar  

MIX & STORE in air tight container. 

INDIVIDUAL SERVING: Add hot water to 1/4 Cup of mix in a mug.

Making Memories
I made a batch of this when my children were younger and it was a hit during the cold weather we had after we relocated to a smaller town.  The rental house was way too cold.  We bundled up, sipped Hot Chocolate and watched the 1992 Winter Olympics that were held in France.  I remember that the winning metals were made out of crystal that year. 

When I was a little girl our Family would go camping in the Colorado Rockies.  Mom fixed us this to drink so we'd warm up.  It was chilly in the Rockies.

Decorating On The Prairie: All the Way From England

with a few items I recently picked up.

For a few dollars, I bought a lovely pair of candlesticks made in England.  
They are weighty and I believe I got my monies worth.  
I may never get to personally visit England, so England must come to me 
through these candlesticks and by watching Downton Abbey.  Grins.  

Concerning the picture I picked up,
I was more interested in the frame than the image in the frame.  

I can see a family picture in this.  

Then I spotted this metal copper colored tray that I enjoyed adding to my stash of serving trays.  
The tray in the pics doesn't look as copper as it is.  Shucks.


Being THRIFY has become a way of life for me.  I'm alright with this.

'Life Just Got A Little Easier' Hard Boiled Eggs

HOME HAVEN EGGS

TIP for Hard Boiled Eggs: Using older eggs are better than fresh ones. Place at least 6 to 12 eggs in a pan then fill pan with enough cold water to cover the eggs. Turn burner on high. Allow water to come to a rolling boil. Turn burner off, take pan off heat and place lid on pan.  Allow eggs to sit in hot water at least 12 minutes.  Drain hot water off of eggs.  Rinse eggs in cold water bath. Allow eggs to sit in cold water for an hour.  One at a time, gently tap egg on counter so shell cracks. Peel egg.  Rinse egg under cold running water. Egg should peel easily.  Eggs should keep for up to a week in the refrigerator.

Boiled eggs are nutritious and considered one of the best foods you can eat.  So why not make LIFE a little easier when there's so much to do.

Kirby House Gone

~SHE'S GONE~

Celebrating my 57th Birthday last Summer on a HOT July night 

at the Historic KIRBY HOUSE in Abilene, Kansas was a wonderful experience.

The atmosphere was beautiful.
The service quite good.
The food was delicious with a very nice presentation.
The company was heart warming.
Memories were made.

I had a delightful time.

This week, she had a fire.

Not sure the complete turn out on this.
News is that she is a total loss.
Saddened.

Thankful no human life was lost.

For now, I can see her in my mind's eye 
and enjoy the pictures I took.

She was a beautiful PINK Mansion.

Home Happenings and Snow Day

As I think about the last fews days and the days to come, I'm watching snowflakes gently falling toward the ground and covering everything in sight.  

The snow is beautiful as it covers nature and causes reason to stay inside out of the freezing temps.  The grey skies light the sky as fluffy flakes trickle down.  

Hubby and Daughter are home from work as we are all snowed in.  This is answered prayer to me.  I had wanted one more SNOW episode before Spring blows in.  The only thing that would make this better would be to sit by a cracklin' fire from a fireplace. 

We don't have a fireplace in this rock house as she was built in 1885 and the victorians believed that fireplaces were unhealthy and dirty. 

Warmed with hydronic (hot water) heat radiators, there's no smoke, but the radiators need dusted as dust settles on them throughout the year.  They will get a thorough cleaning next Fall in preparation for cold weather use.  

Which reminds me, the Chandies will need cleaned in the Spring.  It's time.

VALENTINE'S DAY has come and gone.

Warm wishes, chocolates, cards and spending time with LOVED ONES made for a pleasant and satisfying holiday.

One of the good things I did for me 'ole self this week was to go and have my Beautician shape and trim my hair.  So I have my early Spring Haircut a bit early.  

Lil Miss was home this week due to running a temperature and having a cough.  We watched the 2000 Dream Works American animated musical JOSEPH: King of Dreams with Ben Affleck being the voice of Joseph, Star Wars Mark Hamill as Judah and Potiphar's Wife, Zuleika's voice is by Who's the Boss Judith Light.  This particular video was purchased at a Topeka Thrift Shop for under a dollar.

I wish that movies like this had been available to watch when I was a child to help bring to life Biblical Characters.  

This movie is tastefully done, entertaining and the songs catchy. 

No television today.  
Best put some MUSIC on to listen to.

With such upheaval in the world, 

I find stability in God.

He is the ROCK.

Better run.

Need to wash my hair, thin through some more clothing and sew.

I have great plans to SEW!

It wasn't until just recently that I heard of JR Miller.  He is quoted a great deal on other Christian Blogs.  I wished I had filled my mind with quotes like this years ago.  I wish that somebody had shared with me his ministry and I would have hoped that I would have been encouraged by the words he shared about Home and Family.

Instead, I share this now.  I pray that somebody out there in BLOGLAND that needs encouragement will be nourished by words of life.  May you be encouraged.

Valentine's Day is this week.

In just a few days, many will share a box of candy, flowers, a meal together, jewelry, a marriage proposal.  
Some will say, "I love you." for the first time and mean it.  Some will say, i love you.....for the billionth time.  
Swap compliments.  Swap Valentine Cards.  Here is my heart.  Here is my love.

There are different levels of love and adoration.

But isn't love wonderful.

Home Happenings and Raised Eyebrows

With the week-end behind us, I hope yours was pleasant!  Our weather was cold and really windy.  It rained just a little bit.  Flowers are popping through the flowerbed soil.  Tulips!  I'm like a Kid in a Candy Store.  Spring is my FAVORITE SEASON.  I love it.  I put my snow men away and started getting Spring Decorations out.  This refreshes me.  The pastel colors are a reminder that milder temps are coming.  It will be time to open the windows and let FRESH AIR into my HOME.

The birds are already chirping as if it were SPRING.  SPRING WREATHS for the front doors will need to be hung.

Sippin' my hot coffee while writing out my day timer for this week to come.  Sighing.  I am a tad bit tired this morning.  Laundry is in and already I have had a full morning telephoning and emailing banking business.  Finishing up wrapping Valentine and Birthday gifts that will have to be mailed from Topeka so they arrive a day earlier than if I mailed them from here.

I need to hop in the shower and shampoo my hair.  Hopefully it will help my mop top.  Looks pretty bad this morning.  Hair appointment scheduled next week.

Speaking of hair......I had a NEAT THING HAPPEN on Friday. 

I had Lunch with my Sweetheart.  After I dropped him off at work, I decided I'd go get my eyebrows WAXED.  I had been wanting to get this done and finally made it to the BEAUTY SCHOOL.  As I was waiting in the LOBBY for my appointment, a Beautician came out with one of her Clients.  While the Client was checking out, the Beautician asked the Lady, "Is your birthday really 7-14?"

The Client said, "Yes."

The Beautician said, "That's my birthday, also."

I sat there a little stunned.  I asked, "Did you say your birthday is 7-14?"

Beautician said, "Yes."

I piped up, "That's my birthday!"

What are the odds of three Ladies in a Lobby having the same birthday?

I don't know, but when I told the Beautician that was waxing my brows what had happened, she told me that July 14th is her anniversary for her first date with her husband.

Felt kind of special.  Okay.  Have you had stuff like this happen?

This week-end, we checked out the RESTORE store in Topeka.  They had beautiful NEW tile for a DIME a tile.  It was just the right color, so for under $27 Hubby purchased enough tile for the Kitchen's back splash.  He figured that if he had purchased this particular tile at regular price, he would have spent around $300.00

Don't you know we were soooooo happy to be blessed for $27.oo  We are remodeling on a shoe string budget!  

Hubby drew up newer Kitchen Plans since we decided to leave the Kitchen where it is.  We now have floor tile, counter top materials, double sink, faucet, stove and now back splash tile all purchased and waiting in the Garage for us to CREATE THE NEW KITCHEN!  I came across a Country Kitchen on the internet that I really liked.  We'll sorta imitate it.  Dear Lord, Please let this Kitchen come together before SUMMER.  Please.  

I will proudly show pictures when it happens.  The before pics will make you laugh and wonder how on earth did DEANNA manage?  My Husband and Daughter have cooked and baked more than I have!   Just wait.  I'm telling you the truth.

There will be glass front cabinets in the upper part of the cabinets.  It will be here that I display all my pretty Crystal that's resting in the Parlour's Display Cases.

After relocating the Crystal into the Kitchen, Porcelain Dolls will go in the Parlour's Display Cases.

I get excited when I think the rooms will be better arranged.  This waiting is hard to do.  Sounds silly, but I can't help myself.  When I've waited so long to get the rooms like I want them and it finally happens....well....it's uplifting to me.  I DECLARE. 



Bought some OMAR COFFEE at Tuesday Morning for 50% off.  Each bag cost $2.50.  YAHHHH.  It taste pretty good.  

With me going to Topeka to mail the packages, I will go buy Tuesday Morning and purchase a couple more bags of this coffee for that price.

 
I did not get my PAINTING started.  I was busy shopping for gifts, eating out and and and.....will attempt to get this done this week.  

Day dreamed about putting our two wing chairs that are in the Parlour upstairs in the Master Bedroom.  SPRANG this on my Hubby and he said to wait until the bedroom ceiling is textured and painted.....I said ALRIGHT!   Between now and then.....I will probably have a change of heart.  If I take the chairs out of the Parlour, it would open up the room to where the Camel Back Sofa, miniature Coffee Table and Area Rug would sit facing the Spinet.  I think I could live with this.  Opening this room up would make my heart sing just a little louder.

In my mind, I like the idea.  I have DREAMED of having our Master Bedroom like a Suite.  If the 2 Wing Chairs go upstairs along with the Tea Table and they sit where the Pencil Desk is now.....it would be like a Suite.  The Antique Pencil Desk would be relocated into the Guest Bedroom.  There's room.

Have to take measurements and think about all of this.  With Spring coming.....this would be my SPRING SHUFFLE 'BOUT.  I can envision it in my head.
