DO YOU SNIFF YOUR GARLAND??? I DO!

BLACK FRIDAY.  I stayed HOME... until late afternoon to go to the Post Office to drop off some cards, pick up mail and go for my walk on the track at the Football Field.  Rather cold outside.  Bundled up.

Only made a half of a mile as my hip locked up.  Will try again tomorrow.  Hubby suggested that we go into Manhattan and get some green tea and some faux garland to decorate the porch with. Add some lights in there as well.  I was delighted that he suggested that we go as it is usually me that suggests this and that.  ðŸ‘«He worked really hard yesterday and his knee was aching.  He needed a day of rest from walking up and down the cellar stairs carrying stuff.  One day off will help.  He was limping as we went shopping.

The day went something like this.  I washed a bunch of dishes.  Did research on youtube.  Wrote out some correspondences.  Hung a large Christmas wreath on the Bedroom door.  Post Office visit.  Went walking and traveled over to Manhattan to STARBUCKS for our green tea then to HOBBY LOBBY.  Story continues.

The stores were extremely busy from the Black Friday sale shoppers.  The parking lot was crammed with cars.  HobLob didn't have faux garland at all.  Disappointed, but we got some Sylvania twinkle lights at a good price.

Went over to WAL-MART and sure enough they had garland.  It's really puny looking so we will double up on the porch garland.  Maybe triple it.  Did we sniff the garland to make sure it didn't have an after smell?  Yes, we did.  That may sound funny, but some of the faux stuff has an unpleasant odor to it so I don't want to buy it.

This garland is plump and I'm not sure ours will appear so pretty.  Will give it a go though.

WHILE AT WAL-MART, we did a little grocery shopping.  ðŸ¦ƒ50 cent a pound Butterball Turkeys for sale at Wal-Mart.  That's an awesome price.  Took it as a blessing.  Two please.  There's room in the cellar freezer for more turkey.

I have never prepared Turkey Salad before.  Came across a great recipe for it so now I can make some with confidence.  Sliced turkey with cranberry sauce, turkey sandwiches with mayo, salt and pepper, turkey pot pie, turkey salad sandwiches.  Sounds good enough to eat.

We drove through Wamego to stop at the Hardware Store as I knew they'd have Mrs. Meyer Home products.  Wanted some stainless steel spray cleaner, Mrs. Meyer's dryer sheets that smell like lavender and of course some Mrs. Meyer's Honeysuckle Dish Detergent.  I always enjoy looking at their Christmas charm for decorating.

Drove through their City Park decked out for Christmas.  Took off for the drive Home.  It was dark when we reached our curb at HOME, unloaded and put groceries away.

UPS had left a brown package on the front porch.  It was the Burgundy Velvet Ribbon that was ordered over a week ago.  So glad to get it just in time to decorate for CHRISTMAS.  Hope I can imitate this.

This evening I'm ready for some television with a relaxed evening.  Plans for the week-end are taking shape as I unwind.  Maybe the front of the house will get some twinkle lights hung up first then the garland lays over the lights instead of twisting the lights into the garland branches.  This is a TRICK I learned a couple of years ago.  By Sunday, I'm hoping the garland will deck the COTTAGE.  Hohoho...Merry Christmas.

As I researched the internet, I came across some lovely decorating sights to assist me in this adventure.  I'm going to enjoy LIFE and life abundantly.

It's getting close to time to place the Nativity Scene out.  So ready.

AS FOR OLD MOVIES.  We watched the 1973 movie Soylent Green with Charlton Heston and Edgar G. Robinson.  I've seen it before and was concerned that it would bother me to where I couldn't sleep, but I did alright.  Parts of it were almost comical as they did not have cell phones in the movie as it was suppose to be 2022.  The clothing, interior of living spaces and computers were not quite up to speed.  The fight scenes weren't as realistic as they have become in newer films and the fake blood looked so very fake.  The storyline and ending of the movie were interesting.  Going HOME had a different meaning altogether.  Some of the women were considered to be furniture that stayed with an apartment.  We've come a long ways baby.  Soylent Green isn't seaweed to eat.  It's people.

84 days after filming the movie, Edgar G. Robinson passed away.

The movie made me think to appreciate what I have and that I am blessed to have God in my life.  No soylent green for me.  Thank you very much.

Here's to it being December.  Blink and it's December 1st.

Shall I begin to say, Merry Christmas?  I have.
Blessings to you and Merry Christmas,
~d

CHRISTMAS DECORATING ON THE PRAIRIE

ONE OF NATURE'S BEAUTIES SETTLED ON THE HORIZON and in my backyard.  Thick FOG covered the earth which greeted me in the morning.  It didn't lift like the weather man said it would.  By noon it was still hanging around.  Some winter frost on the screened-in porch's windows chilled me to the bone.  cold.

It's beginning to look a lot like CHRISTMAS around here.  Grey misty atmosphere where the color RED makes a bright statement.  There's just something about the color red in cold weather that warms me.  It's a visual thing.  Rudolph's red nose is no exception.

TODAY, I have plans to complete two wreaths for the front doors.  Just a little hot glue and whaalah it will hold the greenery in place making a lovely wreath.  This CHRISTMAS I wanted to have greenery be the main stay of my decorating.  Strands of garland and sprigs goes a long ways which is easy to sit out bringing a nice CHRISTMASY touch.  Like bringing the outdoors inside.

After watching one of those special videos of someone's tour of their HOME, I believe I will incorporate more fruit next year when we are living in our 1900 COTTAGE.  Not only were there dried orange slices dangling off their CHRISTMAS tree, but whole pieces of fruit with cloves stuck in the fruit decorated the tree, wreaths and garland.  It was festive as well as pretty.  I wanted to go more natural this year and I was very HAPPY with the way the tree turned out.

I didn't sit my Nativity Scene out with figurines this season.  Instead I placed a decorated tile that Lil Miss made last year on the entryway buffet.  I have a brass trivet on the firebox as well. Keeping it SIMPLE.

A garland with pinecones wraps itself around the Dining room chandelier.  A colorful garland embraces the Powder room mirror.  Greenery hangs from the stair rail.  We plan on hanging garland and twinkle lights about the front doors.  I'll be putting together the wreaths and by night fall they will be hanging on the doors.

My energy level is very low today, so I hope I get a few things done to start the week out.

I had hoped to go visit a small country church today, but I couldn't manage the energy for the drive let alone get dressed and stay alert as the minister would talk.

Perhaps next week I will be feeling better.  Yesterday, I went to lunch with a couple of my friends.  When I returned HOME I had to take a NAP as I was exhausted.

If this keeps it up, back to the doctor for some test as I shouldn't be this exhausted.  Dieting is one thing, but I allow myself more calories on certain days.  The stress of it all may be too much.

This week, the decorating will be completed and the house cleaning underway with some making of some CHRISTMAS TREATS.  CHRISTMAS GIFTS to wrap up, CHRISTMAS LETTERS AND CARDS out the door.  Meal preparations underway.  No fancy parties this year.  HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Lord JESUS.  Perhaps I will make a white cake and sing HAPPY BIRTHDAY.

Thank you for joining me here on the Kansas prairie.
God bless,

~d

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

By wisdom
a house is built,
and through understanding

it is established;
through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

and beautiful treasures.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
