KANSAS CITY VISIT, GILLHAM HOUSE, EATING AT HARVEY'S and WAITING FOR THE EARTH TO MOVE

DRIVING ACROSS THE WIDE OPEN SPACES OF THE KANSAS PRAIRIE ON OUR WAY TO KANSAS CITY was agitating early in the morning as the visibility was next to none.  Heavy FOG made it very difficult to see the road in front of me making me tenser than usual.  AND who needs tense?  Usually I am on guard because of the other drivers speeding around me, but this time the fog was a blinding white cloud making my eyes work overtime.

A migraine started to come on.  I couldn't see the pastures to the left and to the right of me. Visibility ended at the edge of the road and a short distance in front of me.  I was engulfed in a mystical mist.

It doesn't seem to matter the weather conditions, there are always drivers zooming right on by at a faster than safe speed.  This is troublesome as their recklessness doesn't impress me, but puts me on a higher alert.

The foggy morning traffic wasn't so threatening, but the visibility made the drive extremely challenging for this old woman behind the wheel straining to do well.  I was tense, but in some weird way the hour and a half drive seemed like a dream in a romance novel.  I've seen paintings with less fog and they seem to have an eloquence to them.

Walking to school in the fog was a rare occasion in my day back in Liberal, Kansas, but it was a fantasy world on those days where I couldn't clearly see as the fog was making theatre out of life. I had visions of being on the streets of London walking to my destiny where ever that was for the day.  The West Junior High School building would greet me as I stepped towards it.

Now to fast forward to the present. Upon arriving to our Kansas City destination, the fog lifted.  Dream over.

We had already eaten our breakfast on the road from TOPEKA before entering KC.  Eating a meal from STARBUCKS fit the bill.  I like their Egg and Cheese Protein Box with 2 boiled eggs, about 6 grapes, half of a sliced apple, 2 small white cheese triangles, circular piece of bread, peanut butter and packaged spices to sprinkle on the eggs.  Of course we both had unsweetened Iced Green Tea in a TRENTA cup.

Sample.  Mine had grapes instead of citrus.

ABOUT 460 calories for me.  Just right.  My conclusion is that I seem to feel better eating Breakfast than FASTING until noon or so.  As I sat in the car waiting for our order, I noticed that most of their customers walking into the brick and mortar establishment were young woman who had ordered ahead of time coming back outside almost immediately carrying their cups of FANCY coffee.  I suppose they all were on their way to work?  Where that is, I don't know.

Hubby came to the car with my protein box then returned inside to get the iced tea and his little Ham and Swiss Cheese Croissants.  He decided to go inside instead of waiting in the drive-through as the line was rather long, but inside wasn't much better.  They were crazy busy this morning. What a hotspot on Wannamaker Street.

I ate some grapes and a couple of apple slices right away while sitting in their parking lot.  The boiled eggs came after we returned to the Interstate.  This box breakfast worked well for me as I drove to KC. Sipping on the tea took time.

We chatted on the way to Kansas City for the 10 o'clock appointment with a printer to get the ball rolling about a piece of artwork that my Husband has created.  This is a first.  We've never had prints made of any kind.  A new adventure for sure.  In a few days we'll return to KC to see the results for under a hundred dollars.  Pray it's a good fit.

Arriving early made time to change out a tail light on the car so we went to a local auto parts store to take care of this before going to the Print Shop for the appointment.  Bathroom break at HOME DEPOT. How convenient is that?

While standing for the Art appointment in an old house with overgrown greenery on the metal fence and potted plants on the large porch, I began to sweat as the front room didn't have circulating air.  I could see the results of sweat beads soaking through the top of my blue dress. Feeling faint, I excused myself to return to our car where air conditioning could be felt. Satisfied, I waited for my companion to return.  We left his beautiful drawing in the hands of a stranger that will see to it that the drawing will be photographed for a print.

Hubby is somewhat nervous turning loose of this particular piece of artwork which has hours of labor in it.  Pray it is a fit and all goes well.

Caught my eye.

After Hubby got in the car, we went to the GILLHAM HOUSE with antiques and furnishings that we saw as we drove the neighborhood to the printers.  This very upscaled shoppe was a treasure to come across.

When I stepped inside the mansion with very high ceilings, I got lost gawking at the merchandise arranged in the house by different dealers throughout the manse.  I was curious what they must be paying to lease a space.  I can only imagine.

I had no idea that Nell Hill's Mary Carol Garrity had a 400 square foot cubby hole store in this mansion called diebolt's.  Nell Hill's in Atchinson, Kansas was her previous business that she has since sold. She had another rather large store in KC that I did not have the pleasure of visiting while she ran it.  The business exchanged hands and her huge Atchinson mansion sold as well.  I think she sold this business in 2018 to retire and move into a two bedroom cottage by a lake.

We had toured her Atchinson mansion about 12 years ago.  Seems like yesterday.  I have photos from the 2013 Fall Home Tour of hers which can be looked at on this blog's sidebar under Mary Carol Garrity etc.  I did not know she was so famous until later.

I first noticed her walking about and recognized her.  That's Mary Carol Garrity.  Later I'd say hello and tell her that we had toured her HOME. She's sweet as ever and very personable.  Her lil cubby hole shop carries the same style of merchandise she was peddling in 2013. She was really big into blue and white porcelain ginger jars and urns, pretty porcelain dishes, fragrant candles and silver trays hanging on the wall with black ribbon before and still is.  A nice touch for glamour.

Mary Carol, Author and Decorator had a small Christmas tree decked out with tear shaped crystal prisms on top of a table in the middle of her tiny store.  She has a flare that many admire and lust after.  Things for fun not necessities, as she has put it.

AFTER LEAVING THE GILLHAM HOUSE, we drove to UNION STATION to eat lunch upstairs at HARVEY's.  I had a salad.  Imagine that.  Exciting choice.  grins.  Somewhere in here is a paper thin shaved piece of asparagus.  There was ONE slice in the whole salad.  One?  One. Only one.  Did I say one? Yes, one.

Appetizer came first.  Munched on onion rings
dipped in BBQ Ranch sauce.  Talk about good.

The dipping sauce we had with the onion rings was a winner.  BBQ with RANCH DRESSING. We'll copy this as it was awesome.  We left with a winning idea to take HOME with us.  When I was dipping the o rings in the sauce, I thought it would be a delicious salad dressing.  hum.  Will do just that at HOME.  This sauce idea goes HOME with us.
We should have had a couples pic of us, but seemed to slip my mind. Old age is happening.

Hub's FAVORITE all time meal...Chicken Fried Chicken with mashed potatoes plus gravy and green beans.  A biscuit.  Brings to light cherished childhood memories for him.

On The HOUSE DESSERT for our Anniversary.
Carrot Cake

Because our anniversary is coming, Hubby made reservations at HARVEY's and the waitress brought a carrot cake to us for dessert following our meal.  On the house.  It was delicious and I nibbled on it as I am watching my sweets intake plus carbs.  I knew I would be treating myself to a CHEAT DAY in KC so I wasn't too upset to sample the sweet treat.  We plan to have a steak at HOME on Sunday to celebrate our special day.  Looking forward to this.

Apple Cider Vinegar.
I decided I need to carry in my handbag a small vial of apple cider vinegar capsules to take with my meals when needed.  Not all the time, I can tell that I don't feel quite right when eating carbohydrates.  MY body is super sensitive and I recognize that something is off.  Carrying some ACV would be helpful in stabilizing my blood sugar which apparently goes a bit whacky on some days.

The meal was so much fun at UNION STATION with a view.  I think I could do this everyday and be alright with it.  What a spectacular place to visit.  We saw where they're going to have a TITANIC EXHIBIT in the FALL which I'd like to see.  TITANIC fan I am.

What was on the First Class Menu

Hoping to return in the FALL to see the exhibit.

πŸ›³πŸš’πŸ›³πŸš’πŸ›³πŸš’πŸ›³πŸš’πŸ›³

I wanted to shop the HEN HOUSE for groceries before returning to our small community.  We had to drive quite a ways to get to it, but this grocery store is a treat for me.  Picked up some Kansas City Strip Steaks for our Sunday dining experience in honor of our 51st anniversary.

Looking forward to this.  I'll set up a special table for us, find some soft music and light some pretty candles for atmosphere.  Happy Anniversary to us!

By 3 in the afternoon, my eyelids were getting heavy so we had another tea for a 4 o'clock Tea break.  Hubby said we deserved a second tea for our anniversary and I agreed.  Yes, we do.  He was parched and I needed some fluids as the humidity makes me sweat.  The humidity in KC was up.

I'm still not feeling up to par from a week of gut issues.  I'm thinking if the earth doesn't move today then I need to take action to make this happen.  When I say the earth needs to move, its code for I need to go to the toilet.  grins.  Unusual for me, but the earth hasn't moved in two days and I'm miserable.  I took some mineral oil the night before and NOTHING.  Can't believe it.  When I get HOME I'll take some Dulcolax.  May it do the trick.

This virus or whatever it is has been, is a pain in the you know what.  I asked what exercises can I do to make the earth move?  I might have to do some.  I thought walking would help, but it hasn't so far.  Time to go HOME.  Time to go HOME.  Time to go HOME.

We stopped off in LAWRENCE at WALMART for some tape to stabilize the cruiser's tail light which broke loose rattling as we drive.  More to do on this little cruiser.  The walking about WALMART was good for me as I needed to stretch my legs.  We made quick work of it as I looked for slip-on AUTUMN SHOES.  Nothing to write HOME about.  I don't need tennis shoes and that is what they are selling.  I suppose the tariffs will make affordable slip-ons hard to fine. I may have to go to BROWN'S SHOE STORE in Manhattan.  I want a simple slip-on that doesn't cost an arm and a leg.  Penny loafers might work.  Remember these where you slip a penny in the shoe across the bridge of your foot?  Supposedly for good luck.  I be stylin'.

We drove past a SONIC and I thought what the heck a hamburger would be an easy supper for us.  There we purchased Sonic Burgers and I had a cherry limeade that I didn't finish.  It's been months since I had a SONIC BARGER.  Months.

HOME was a nice place to land.  I relaxed in my recliner and fell asleep.

Traveling makes me tired and I was already tired.  I look it, feel it.  No make-up.  No glam.

FRIDAY NIGHT MOVIE...

Watched a 2014 MOVIE, FIVE FLIGHTS UP on YOUTUBE for free. Family friendly.  I liked it. It seemed real and there was very little foul language.  Morgan Freeman has such a nice speaking voice and Diane Keaton is quirky as ever.

I had a very pleasant day.  Very pleasant.  Something worth mentioning.  As the evening turned into night, my gut felt better.  A long week of not feeling the best.

The earth finally moved!  PRAISE the LORD.
Perhaps the cramps will finally go away,

Deanna Shops At Mary Carol Garrity's Mansion

After touring Mary Carol's BEAUTIFUL mansion
and admiring how pretty her yard was,
it was time to walk through the White Sales TENT
and ride the chartered air conditioned Bus back to our car.

I wish I had walked slower through her house.
There was so much to see that it takes a while to absorb it all.
 Thankful we could take photos.

 ~TENT TIME~

How on earth did they get this huge cabinet here
to use for her TENT SALE???
It must have taken many a muscle to move this in to her yard.
Mercy. Mercy.

It was a very H.O.T. September day.
Can I say that again... H.O.T. as in HOT.
Broom skirt stays cooler than denim jeans.

Guess what I went HOME with.......

A beverage jar like what MC has sitting on her pantry counter.

I'd LOVE to do this again.
If I get to...I will deliberately walk slower and
stand still longer in each room as I view it.

Even with it being so HOT,
we had a GREAT DAY!!!!

Deanna Tippy Toeing In Mary Carol Garrity's Backyard

2013 Autumn Open House in Atchison, Kansas
where Mary Carol Garrity lives has a beautiful backyard.

I'd love to spend long hours here with a mild Kansas breeze
blowing on a 73 degree day.

~Backyard~

Through this door to the Backyard.....

The way the brick patio ends and a flower bed begins
has a lot of class.
Like this.  Oh Honey.......

A brick pathway leading from the backyard to the side yard
would be a welcomed addition to our HOME property.
I like this.

Hum.

I watched my step and also watched my spending.
I only bought one thing and it was under $20.oo
Guess what it was?

I enjoyed all that I saw that day...and as we left the beautiful backyard we walked on over to the White Tent on Mary Carol's property where you can look at her merchandise for sale and possibly take HOME with you something that you saw in her house or in the backyard.

Next time I'll show you the TENT
and what I went HOME with.
Always lookin' for a BARGAIN!

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

“Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.”

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

By wisdom
a house is built,
and through understanding

it is established;
through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

and beautiful treasures.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
