A Lovely House

Manhattan, Kansas is very much a College TOWN with Kansas State University being there.  This lovely house is located close by the General Post Office.  She's a beauty and I can just imagine what her interior presents.

Being a long time house looker....I think this one is lovely.  Hot Summer days and cold Winter nights would be pleasantly spent inside where prayers are said, meals are made to share and feet are placed on an ottoman to relax.

A house is but a house until love enters in and makes the structure a HOME.

Kitty in the window.....do you see her?

Have a pleasant HOME where love abides and all are comfortable in the environment, safe and unafraid to be one's self.  God so LOVES YOU and wants to have a personal relationship with you where you grow in wisdom and grace through Jesus Christ when filled with His Holy Spirit.  So many want to hush you up....but why?  Being a child of God is something to embrace and allows us to enjoy all His GOODNESS.  HIS AWESOME GOODNESS.

All the BEST,
d

Granny Nanny and Cooling Off

Lil Miss is learning how to swim.......doing alright in the pool with a private instructor.
Wished I had taken Swim Lessons and learned the proper strokes.

In my youth I'd pretend to be a fish or a mermaid.
I told Lil Miss that is what I did to learn to swim.

She asked if I put my face in the water.
Yes, I did.

Making a splash in life and
wishin' I had a swimsuit just like that one that fit me.

These days only my toes go skinny deepin'!

Tablescape at Historic Hawken House

~HAWKEN HOUSE CHILDREN'S ROOM~

Playing at Tablescaping in the Children's Room.

CHARMING MINIATURE DISHES
FROM DAYS GONE BY

Children's dishes are displayed in one of the Bedrooms
in the HAWKEN HOUSE in the Saint Louis area.

HAWKEN HOUSE
1155 South Rock Hill Road
Webster Groves, Missouri

Think this Childhood Tablescape is a winner
for setting a mood.

Delicate and tiny items to play with
would have made my heart sing as a child.

As an adult seeing the items placed in this room was a treat.

The Sunday afternoon we stopped by for a tour
was blistering hot outside so seeing this fine mansion was extra fun.

A very fine example of how a stately home
might have been decorated in that historical era.

Entertaining would improve and be enhanced by having
PROPER GUESTS PRESENT at your table.
Sitting pretty.

More to see in the room.
Take a peek at the details of this old fashioned playroom.

This is our Tour Guide, Molly standing in the beautiful Guest Room
that we decided to call "THE MOLLY SUITE."

Molly, THANK YOU for a wonderful tour of the HAWKEN HOUSE.
You were such a gracious and pleasant Docent.

We had a great time seeing the first landmark in the state of Missouri
to receive a Historic Preservation Grant from the Federal Government.

Thank you for stopping by for a visit!  If we were to stay awhile in the CHILDHOOD BEDROOM
and played 'HAVE TEA WITH ME' we'd visit about days gone by and what we liked seeing in this lovely house filled with wonderful treasures.  I know we would.  We'd giggle and make memories.

Whatever you're going through, may it not be to where you forget to relish this PRESENT day of LIFE for it is a GIFT from God.  Take a deep breath and relax.  Unwind as we sip imaginary tea and munch on calorie free cookies that you can eat all you want because they're just soooooo good.

Hope you'll return and take a peek at some of the other beautiful rooms filled with eye candy that will be posted in the near future.

God Bless,
d

Thoughts

The Summer temps have been extremely HOT here in my part of the world.  I've lost track of how many days it has hit over a 100 degrees.  On record for Kansas, temps hit like 121 degrees back in the DUST BOWL DAYS on JULY 24th, 1936.

Later this afternoon or early evening we are suppose to have thunderstorms......I will welcome the rain, but have my doubts about the thundering part.  I DON'T LIKE TORNADOES.

Was hoping to help Hubby bathe the dogs this evening after he gets home from work.  I haven't bathed the boys since they were pups.  We have had professional groomers groom the dogs for years until my sweet Hubby gave them haircuts and baths this past Spring.

They need loving attention.  So we shall see how this pans out.

I have been shuffling furniture again which has caused the dining room table to be a catch all once again.........will i ever learn that i need to thin out my stuff to simplify my life?  Yes, I have hopes I will.  Getting organized around here is like MOVING all over again.   It is exhausting to say the least.  I have to be my own CHEER LEADER....YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

This week has been a bit challenging.  Sunday night my Husband was bit on top of his head by a BAT.  He had gone out after dark to check on our dogs and as he reached over the kennel gate a bat flew into his hair fluttering about.  After he came into the house, he asked me to check his head.  I did, took pictures and enlarged the pic.

Two small round marks and a gash mark.  Started reading on the internet about what bat bites looks like.....off to the Manhattan Hospital we went and he received 12 shots around 1:30 in the morning.   We returned home about 3 AM.

He will receive a series of shots over the next few days.  Next visit will be Thursday.  I am thankful that these shots are available and do not have to be given into  the stomach anymore.

I am stunned....husband is stunned.....daughter is stunned.  We have been looking the house over for any evidence of bats in the house.  Haven't found any.  Hubby checked the attic.  Thank you God, nothing up there.  Now to make our backyard LESS ATTRACTIVE to Bats.  We understand that they like HOT temps up to 110.  They go looking for places to rest to digest their food.  YUCK....me no think me like bats......and will look for places to change so they do not rest in our yard, etc.

This experience has become a TURNING POINT in my husband's life.  I think we all have times that there is a TURNING POINT in LIFE.  May it be productive and positive!

Hubby has visited with the Vet about our outdoor dogs.  They have been vaccinated for rabies....but think they will receive another vaccine shot in very near future.  Manhattan, Kansas isn't that far from where we live and there is a neighborhood that is having problems with BATS in their attics.

Hope they don't migrate to our area.....I don't think I can handle Bats.
May God bless and protect us,
d

VBS

Sunday, we listened to the little children sing their Vacation Bible School songs that they had learned.  Our little Grand daughter wore her hair down and had a pretty flowered dress on to sing Butterfly Song and Peace Like A River.  Hand gestures to their songs added sweetness.

The Children's Sermon was about SHEEP WITHOUT A SHEPHERD.  The Minister told the children to act like sheep and go about the sanctuary like they had no Shepherd. Jesus is the GOOD SHEPHERD and this was shared....After the children delightfully scattered about....the Minister called out to them to

 "COME       Baaa  AAAAAA CCCKKKK!"

They diiiiiiiiiiiid,

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

By wisdom
a house is built,
and through understanding

it is established;
through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

and beautiful treasures.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
