Summer Solstice 2010...The Summer Solstice is the day with the longest daylight of the year, also called the first day of summer in many cultures. In the northern hemisphere, summer solstice begins on June 21, 2010 @ 7:28am EST. In the UK, on June 21 @ 11:28am UT.
Sol plus stice (sistere) derives from a combo of latin words meaning "sun" plus
"to stand still." As the days lengthen, the sun rises higher and higher until it seems to stand still in the sky. Results in the longest day and shortest night of the year.
N. Hemisphere celebrates in June while the South half of the earth have their longest summer day in December.
Now that we have had our Science Lesson for the day...moving right along.
On Sunday I phoned my Dad for Father's Day to wish him a very HaPpY ONE. Last week I was able to stop by my Folk's little town and see my Dad in person to give him his card and gift. He wasn't feeling the best and has been going to the doctor's to find out what's wrong. They have taken his pain patch from him and are using half pills for pain management. Doctor thought perhaps he was receiving too much medication and this was causing some problems. I pray for my Parents.
Also got to wish my brother in person a HaPpY Birthday...he turned 59 this past week. And a son turned 35. Seems like yesterday that my children were so young and excited about having a birthday. My Mom always fixed her children a Birthday Cake and sang Happy Birthday to us. There'd be a gift and alot of excitement.

In preparation for the Paxico Meatloaf Festival, my Family ate meatloaf for Sunday Night Supper as I started experimenting on a new recipe. Think we'll give it a whirl. My daughter and I have a plan for what we'll wear and how the meatloaf will be presented. Last year we had such fun playing and preparing our PRIZE WINNING Meatloaf...and took extra care to transport it so she'd arrive in good shape for the competition. We smiled with delight, but were quite SURPRISED that some entries had decorated their loaves with such a artsy presentation that I think our hearts skipped a beat as we realized that our delicious meatloaf wasn't a Broadway Production...we looked at each other and sighed. We had a fantastic meatloaf and walked away with a pretty apron and Chef Alli took our picture!
This Monday, I started the day out by lying in bed and praying for my country, health issues and for others. Put a load of laundry in and got dressed before Lil Miss was up. I had decided that this Monday morning I was going to start my veggie diet and see if I can lose some weight before my August Doctor's appointment in Topeka. After I realized that this is the first day of summer something clicked and I didn't drink my early morning cup of coffee with cream. I had a glass of water instead.
Think I will begin my mornings with some lemon in a glass of water, take a Tablespoon of Olive Oil and have veggies for Breakfast. Veggies through out the day with a small amount of cottage cheese. Can I do this? This I can!!!
Lil Miss woke up and she's off and running. Today she dressed herself. I fixed her Breakfast. Her mornings are full of time to play, draw, sing and dance. Some children's videos are watched. Today it has been Little Bear.
I have lost track on how many times we have watched the 1997 color animated 34 minute video of Maurice Sendak's LITTLE BEAR FAMILY TALES. Bought this video at a thrift shop about a year ago and haven't regretted doing so. I wasn't familiar with Little Bear, but am now and really like his adventures. When my daughter bought some children's toothpaste with Little Bear on the label, I didn't have a clue who he was...now I know. By the way, the toothpaste taste pretty good.
I have worked on paperwork and bills...now blogging! I'm about to paint my finger nails a soft pink (Sally Hansen's complete SALON manicure 170 PINK SLIP) and while they're drying...I'm gonna walk a MILE on the tread mill. Praise the Lord! I'm determined. After reading so much about thyroid health over the week-end and about our country's president...I need some pink on my nails.
