Acting My Age

Being my age took a turn while I researched the actors that played on the 1963 episodes of PETTICOAT JUNCTION.

Tonight after a full week-end of cleaning out our SPARE ROOM that is still in an upheaval, in the evening we watched old black and white episodes of PETTICOAT JUNCTION.

The older Actors were all in their late 40s, 50s and 60s.  Miss Kate played by Bea Benaderet was 57 in the episode we watched.  I'm 58.  Somehow being 57 in 1963 looked so much older than I think 57 year olds do in 2013.  Grins.

Mr. Drucker played by Frank Cady was all of about 48 at the time.  48.

There are somedays that I feel my age.  I need to get over myself and admit, I am old.  Getting closer to 60.  That's not exactly young.

Today as we were taking a coffee break between cleaning frenzies, I asked my husband, "What would you do different if you could concerning how we have lived through the years?"

Striving to be more of a SAVER and live way below our means....wish I had been more determined to be like this when we were much younger.  I'd thrift more and be alright with off brand items.  Since none of us knows exactly how long we have to live, one can start this way of living right now.

We aren't finished with the SPARE ROOM clean up.  It's going to take more time than I ever dreamed.  With CHRISTMAS this week...we will take a breather from the overhaul.  We can pat ourselves on our backs for the work we did accomplished.  My eyes bugged out on how much stuff we had stacked in tubs in the SPARE ROOM.

Making piles of things to give to thrift, give away or keep.  Down sizing continues.  If we do get the blessing of getting to live to retire...I know that we will be ever so HAPPY that we downsized when we did.

It seems that it took years to build up what we have and will take years to downsize. Ironic.

Instead of being 6 years of running behind, I decided that we are 6 years ahead.  If 65 is a retirement age that we hold out there like a carrot before our noses than we are 6 years ahead. Better to be organized and have order in our lives than to be doing all this clean-up at 65.  So with tongue in cheek, I'm saying we are 6 years ahead.  Ta Daaa.

I met Smiley Burnette when I was a little girl.

Except Smiley Burnette was known as FROG.

I still have my autographed picture of FROG.  Somewhere.
Perhaps I will come across it as we plow away at the SPARE ROOM.

Not sure we have the CHRISTMAS episode of PETTICOAT JUNCTION,
but it looks like a good one.
"Cannonball Christmas"

...and that's Uncle Joe he's moving kind of slow at the junction.
PETTICOAT JUNCTION.

May you have a blessed week.
CHRISTMAS is almost here,

Home Happenings

The morning temps here on the Prairie where I live, were so nice when I left to take Lil Miss to school.  So much nicer than 25 degrees.  The brrrrr factor wasn't present.  It was a great start to my day.

Being so slow at the TAXES getting prepared frays my nerves and I HATE it when we wait till the last moment to put the checks in the mail.  HATE IT.  Hate is a strong word, but this standard of dealing with the TAXES irritates and sours my disposition.

Life with an aging hormonal woman is troublesome at times.  KNOW WHAT I MEAN.  Emphasis on the mean.  Though I have looked at ways to de-stress home life, this yearly ritual needs to be completed earlier in the year.  I'd be a happier camper.

Talk what may, it seems to be an event that continues to add additional tension and stress that makes life unpleasant.

Husband and I are wired very differently.  He's the kind of guy that waits till Christmas Eve to shop for loved ones and I'm the kind of gal that shops through out the year for gifts to give.  Makes more sense to me and smaller chunks of change concerning the budget.

When I know that the task is done and completed ahead of time, I can relax knowing that this is done.  Mission accomplished with little sweat.

The not talking and not planning for important events drives me nervous.  Causes problems.  Has for years.  God is on my side when I say husbands are to understand their wives.  Unhuh.  Wives are to respect their husbands.  Oops.  Let's try that again.

TAXES is this way with me.  Planning for Birthdays, Anniversaries, Weddings, etc.  any kind of special event....when I know that what needs to be done is done, I'm contented and have more peace about it.

The wondering and worrying  takes a back seat and I cruise right along.

Not saying I'm better at this, but believe that it is a better way to live.  Hubby is a busy man.  I know.  I understand.  So pace yourself.  Christmas comes once a year each year and it's no surprise.  Same with TAXES.  Okay.

I have requested that out TAXES be started sooner in the year and completed before April 1st.  Hubby agrees.  Now we shall see if it becomes a reality or just talk.

I don't want to be frazzled.  Taking steps to lighten the stress is a must.  Better use of time and easier on zeee nerves.

Last week BLOGGER gave me a run for my money.  It was doing stuff that I didn't ask for on my blog.  Sizes of pictures changed along with print and positioning which made my stomach hurt to sit there and watch this stuff go whopper jaw.  Okay.  Settle down.  Take a deep breath.  Ring your hands.  The clock is ticking and it's time to go pick Lil Miss up from school and the Blog is messed up.

Makes me nervous....don't 'cha know.

It took a while to get my blog close to what it was looking like beforehand.  I typed life on the prairie w/d across my header pic.  I have wanted to change the header for awhile now and will in time.  For now, I am waiting until Hubby can walk me through this.  I am CHICKEN to experiment on my own with this LOVELY STUFF.

Around the palace, the Kitchen is progressing.  A wall cabinet is waiting to be hung.  Next week-end I believe she will be there.

My dear Hubby is in demand.  A Family member of ours needed a backdoor so I asked purdee please....would you hang our ANTIQUE DOOR and give the colonial revival door to our Family member?  Our ANTIQUE DOOR has been in the garage for almost 6 years waiting for my hubby's human hands to get a hold of it.

He agreed and the week-end was used to repair the door, size it and install it.  A antique door knob was robbed from the Mechanical room to place on the 'NEW' OLD DOOR.

After about 20 hours of labor....the ANTIQUE DOOR is on the front of the house.

She will receive a new coat of paint on the interior to match the white trim in the Parlour and later the exterior side of the door will be stripped, stained and varnished to match the other front door on our rock palace.

It's a golden oak color and I like it.  I don't really want to paint the Door that leads into the Dining room.....like the natural wood color.

We're inching along on the remodeling and revamping of our old place on the Prairie.

When the calendar said it was SPRING, I started eating more salads and veggies.  I have to deliberately think about this RANDOM ACT OF KINDNESS to my body.  I am better able to enjoy a green salad the older I get.  The variety of veggies that can go into the salad with some nuts and fruit make the salad a more delightful dish for me.  This is a blessing to be able to admit that I am enjoying salads more as a mature lady than I did as a young one.

Once a day I try REALLY HARD to drink a PROTEIN DRINK to enhance my health.  The benefits of Protein on human health has been greatly ignored by today's society of vegans.  Just one of those things the Bible talks about in the last days.  Certain foods we eat and marriage will be discouraged.

Speaking about the Bible...the word of God is TRUTH.  Amen.

I am terrible about taking Vitamins, but will truly try to do better this week with JUDY's PINK PACK.

 A very GOOD read........

Have read this book years ago,
but want to return to it and refresh my mind.

Be beautiful in the skin you're in.

I've been washing my face with Cetaphil for a couple of weeks now and using Judy's Facial Serum.  Like it.  I'm getting older by the minute.  According to Judy you can age without growing OLD.

I am making sloooow progress on my paperwork.  I don't get it.....this stuff seems to breed all by itself.  It will be a big VICTORY when I can say, she's done and in maintenance mode.

My 6'7" married son that's 37 years old ran in a race and placed first in his age group and third overall.  I smiled when I saw the pics and cried.  You'd have to know how challenging this boy was to raise.  To see that he is doing a positive made me weep.  Am very proud of him and daughter-in-law that is a supportive Christian wife.

When you are going through difficulties with your children and just about to go out of your mind because the child is more than a handful.....pray.  Pray for God's wisdom on how to deal with this precious child that doesn't mind, lies and causes problems.  Continue to PRAY.

This guy was a CHALLENGE and then some.  I knew he needed to do something positive with all the energy God gave him, so when he got in trouble I made him run laps in the back yard.  Not over do this, but run 5 laps in the yard.  He'd run.

I am proud of my children.  SO proud.  I am pleased.  Thanking GOD for babies.  So many people miss out on raising their babies.  They don't want to have babies at all.  They are missing out.  Babies are a blessing from God.  I learned as I went along.  Continually learned as the children grew.  As they grew, I did as well.

Marriage, Children, Home making, the Christian LIFE......miracles in the making.  Blessings in the making.  Precious blessings.

Now as for MARRIAGE.....it can be a handful as well.  I MUST PRAY for wisdom and how to deal with what comes my way. I confess there are times that I want to quit.  It's difficult.  Very very not funn.

As we have been going through old books, Daughter handed me an old book written by Marabel Morgan.  The Total Woman.  This is the 1973ish book where it mentions wrapping your nude body in plastic wrap to surprise your husband.  I'm thinkin'  Babee...there's just not enough plastic wrap in the world to wrap my body to where it'd look attractive even with the neat colors that are out on the market these days!

When this book came out the importance of being a Christian Wife was the furthest thing from my little liberal mind.  Man o' man things have changed.  Thanking God for His Holy Spirit that is willing to open your eyes of understanding just for sincerely asking.

I will reread this book when I can and see if it will enhance married life.  Will it be outdated?  Whatever that means.

Laundry is washing, just finished a Protein Drink for my LUNCH.  Will tidy the Family room a little and go through some papers.  Need to pray.  Life.  Lil Miss has a doctor's appointment today.

Last week Daughter had a TICK on her which caused her to go looking to see if Lil Miss had any ticks on her.  She found an irregular shaped mole that she didn't know about and wants to visit with the Doctor.

With the Taxes completed, Son's Victory, Mother fainting, the antique door in place, the kitchen under construction, Granddaughter's mole....life is busy and I'm in need of a DATE with my Husband.

That's the skinny,

Huge Mistake

A HUGE MISTAKE. I think it is a huge mistake to ignore one's aging and try so hard to keep up with what one did 30 years ago!!! Let me put emphasis on the !!!!!!!'s. There has got to be some adjustments.

When I was in High School I would Pray, Dear Lord, please let me age gracefully. I meant it. At 54...well I'm aging for sure, but not as gracefully as I'd like. Perhaps I should have put an order in to age well with good health. I'll say this prayer TODAY.

Yesterday I walked to the Court House and to the Grocery Store in 82 degree weather with high humidity wearing capri length blue denim slacks with sleeveless biscuit colored tank top...proper underwear of course...wearing the prettiest bronze colored sandals I own. Hair worn down and Granny here pushing Lil Miss in her little pink car that's a fancy stroller for Tikes.

There wasn't much resistance while pushing this car, so I was having difficulty believing I was in as awful of shape as I am.

Before we went up the Court House elevator to pay for the car tag, I sat on a bench where some air flow was waffling down a hallway to brush my sweaty face. This felt soooo good. I wanted to make sure I wasn't completely red faced before entering the office. Thought I was doing pretty well until I bent down and lost my balance.

I am so vain.....and thought these sweet Ladies behind the counter are gonna think I had been drinking before coming here. I staggered before catching my balance. Ummmmmm not a good sign.

Took care of the car tag, walked across the street to the Grocery store and bought a COLD 7-up from the outside pop machine for 35 cents. Originally went for a water, but it was all sold-out so 7-up it was.

By the time I got home, I knew I was not the youngster I had once been. Sweat was dripping from my hair and I looked a fright. I give FRAZZLED Gramma a new meaning.

I rested under the ceiling fan and said a prayer...Dear Lord, I admit...I am not in good health as I have tried to convince myself. I will lose some of this weight and I will eat better! Stay physically active. There's no fooling you. In Jesus Name, AMEN.

May we all be in excellent health.

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

“Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.”

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

By wisdom
a house is built,
and through understanding

it is established;
through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

and beautiful treasures.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
