Decorating On The Prairie: Making A Splash With Kitchen Tile

Decorating On The Prairie
is grouting along.

Recently Hubby finished the back-splash above the sink
then continued to tile the area above and behind the stove.
He did it.  Waited a week to grout.

The neutral color tones are pleasant to look at
and enhance our tiny Kitchen that we use every day.

It has been an exercise for our patience.
The Kitchen Remodel has a story all it's own.
Life happened and we lived to tell about it.

Persevering
DECORATING/REMODELING
has been character building.

 Grrrrr.
See my teeth…I'm smiling.

Next step on this JOURNEY
will be to buy the wood, build cabinet doors,
hang, prime and paint.  Hardware to follow.

Thanks for stopping by,
d

Beauty In Winter

With chilly winter weather at hand
I have to deliberately look for things of beauty
that bring joy when the weather is so undesirable.

I didn't have to look far.

The floating rose.

Beautiful winter vision,

February First

Officially relieved that February arrived.  Sounds of the howling winter winds escorted littering snow dusting the surface of all that it could cover.  Grey skies at morning and dancing tree branches swayed a love song stretching the imagination of how the Kansas flint hills must look to those traveling across the rolling prairie.

Thankfully it's February with Valentine's Day to celebrate and two Grandsons having birthdays. Thinking on what to give them as gifts.  I like giving my children and grandchildren valentines, so I had best go to town this week to get the goods purchased and mailed.  No HOME-MADE valentines from this semi-homemade woman.

Thoughts taking place of how my Husband and I will celebrate our Sweetheart date.

This morning, Hubby and I chatted about our childhood homes with Moms that both stayed HOME cooking for their families in their dainty Kitchens.  In my mind's eye I know every inch of that tiny kitchen on Roosevelt Street.  612 North Roosevelt in Liberal, Kansas was a cracker box house built when the OIL BOOM took place.

Dining took place in the kitchen eating area where there was not a separate dining room for the house.  Two small bedrooms on the main floor with two bedrooms downstairs where I slept in a shared bed with my sister.  I was the bed hog that also was a slob when it came to keeping our room tidy.  I had much to learn and I loved piling my worn clothing on the chair.  I think that this habit still exists.  Oops.  I managed to upset my sibling.

How did this tiny, itty, bitty house hold so much love to where it weren't bursting the seams of the structure?  I'm surprised that people driving by didn't think the house was shining with light.  Our little house was indeed tiny and yet I have a lifetime of cherished memories that comfort my thought life when they come to mind.  Pleasant nostalgic moments to remember.

THANKFUL that there are cold weather holidays to take my mind off of how I dislike the COLD in itself.  It helps me perservere till SPRING comes.

God bless,
d

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.

King James Version (KJV)

PSALM 118:17

I shall not die,
but live, and declare
the works of the Lord.

PROVERBS 24:3-4

By wisdom
a house is built,
and through understanding

it is established;
through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

and beautiful treasures.

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
