Dining At The Seelye Mansion

Lovely Haviland china and crystal 

for the Dining room table setting 

at the Seelye Mansion in Abilene, Kansas.

Inside the 1905 Georgian Mansion with 25 rooms,

elegant dishes and glassware are positioned 

throughout the Formal Dining room.

Dining at this mansion would have been an elegant occasion 

to experience.  For now, we view the room as is. 

The Seelyes owned 4,000 pieces of Haviland dinnerware. 
They bought more than 300 pieces of dinnerware just for the servants. 
Only linen tablecloths and sterling silver were allowed. 
A button under the carpet let the ladies summon the servants. 

The Seelye mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places 

and has been named one of eight wonders of Kansas architecture.

Original Thomas Edison light fixture.

The beautiful purple Croesus Ware is more than likely from 1897 and very valuable.  This ornate design displayed gold which was sometimes scraped off of the glass to make ends meet by those going through hard times.

Wanting to tour for about 20 years, 

I was treated on my 60th Birthday 

on a HOT Summer's day.

I won't soon forget this mansion,

Dining In Victorian Charm.

Eloquently set in Saint Louis.

Delighted to tour the Historic Campbell House 

in all of her glory.

What a lovely place to dine and share a MEAL 

with beautiful china, crystal and table service.

The 'State of the Art' rubbery vegetables 

are the BEST I have ever seen.

Campbell House is open to the public to tour and see first hand the fine example of Saint Louis Victorian Charm. 

Built in 1851, the first house in the elegant Lucas Place

neighborhood, the Campbell House was the home of renowned fur trader and entrepreneur Robert Campbell and his family from 1854 until 1938.  The museum contains hundreds of original Campbell possessions including furniture, paintings, clothing, letters, carriages and unique set of interior photographs taken in the mid- 1880s.

Harvey Dishes

When touring the Kansas City Union Station, this painting was spied and admired.  Subject matter is a Harvey Restaurant.  Painting was located close to a display case with actual Fred Harvey Restaurant Dishes.  

Back in the day Harvey Restaurants served up delicious food for an affordable price on nice dishes.  Good food, decent price, nice atmosphere.  Just like HOME.
