Home Haven Happenings

Hi there!  Did you hit all the after Christmas Sales?  I wasn't outside my small town on Sunday, the day after Christmas and on Monday I stayed home to rest from a busy Holiday.  BUT TODAY WAS TUESDAY and I ventured outside and went to Manhattan's DILLARDS and TARGET.

The parking lots were almost empty and the shopping was enjoyable.  No rushing or crowded lines.  Enjoyed this.

Picked up some ideas from Dillards for sweets next year.
Dip marshmallows in white chocolate and then roll it in peppermint sprinkles.  The boxed versions had a toothpick in the marshmallow.  A coffee stirrer would work as well.

Also saw 2 marshmallows stuck together that were covered in white chocolate and made to look like a snowman with little candies for it's features.

We bought one large red glass Christmas Ornament half off for next year's tree.  Think we will add some red into the Parlour Tree.  In boxes I have some beautiful red ornaments that will be used for the tree.

TARGET had so much Christmas STUFF it was as if it were before Christmas.  Great selection of 50 percent off items.  I have a stash of Christmas Cards already and wrapping paper so I skipped buying these items.  Picked up a few more decorative Christmas Ornaments that will be used on the Parlour Tree.

My daughter introduced me to BOOTS skin care so I bought some for myself.  I understand that it is very popular in Britain.  Gonna give this a try.  While I was at TARGET I bought some.

Tonight after coming home from shopping, I noticed that the Family~room Christmas Tree had disappeared.  Thank you DAUGHTER!!!  This week Christmas decorating starts to migrate back into the boxes.  Slowly the things came out and slowly they will go by by.

Will you be doing anything different for the new year?  I want to lose 20 pounds before my Summer Birthday.  That's my heart's cry for now.  Think I will try the Special K Diet in 2011.  A nice place to start.

Better get to bed.  It's late and I have a long day tomorrow.

CHRISTMAS At Home Haven

Spring project.  It will get done...it will get done. 
Please excuse the ugly family~room walls waiting to be wall papered...grins and think on the positive. Christmas Greetings and a lovely Season.


The week-end was a busy one.  I didn't get all of the cleaning accomplished before company came to visit, but that's alright.  It's important to gather as family and celebrate Birthdays, spend time together breaking bread and singing songs.

Family from Oklahoma, Kansas and Iowa visited. 
Son and Family from Oklahoma arrived 
the day before Christmas Eve.
On Christmas Eve we opened Christmas presents 
from one another. 
Iowa Family arrived and we celebrated Hubby's Birthday.
 Santa Claus came.
Kansas Family arrived.
 Sang Happy Birthday Jesus, 
ate, 
opened more gifts, 
Rode horses by playing Kinetic X~Box, 
sang Christmas Carols.

Shell brought a large assortment of goodies for us to eat.   I wish I had a close up picture of Shell's Cheesecake Bites.  Shell...I need your recipe written down.  If you like chezcake and I do...you'd enjoy her creation.  Wonderful.

I actually ate a piece of sugar-free peach pie that Mom made 

and I would have never known it was sugar-free until she told me.

My Sis makes decadent Peanut Butter Fudge that is hard to beat.

She asked if she could bring anything I told her...fudge!  Melts in your mouth GOOD.

Want to know something else...I luvd having throw away dishes, cups and napkins.  It lightened the load of dishwashing to be done and I enjoyed that.
Easy access for everyone to help themselves when needed.

Christmas Eve morning we opened gifts from one another.
Breakfast, gifts and Lunch.  Lunchtime was made simple with snack foods.  Cheese, Crackers, Summer Sausage plus goodies.   Afternoon playtime for the Grands.  Then in the evening we celebrated my husband's 56th Birthday with a Spaghetti Supper, Salad and Garlic Bread.  Finishing with Cake and Ice Cream.

I cut corners on Hubby's Birthday cake.  Store bought German Chocolate Cake was served up.  I added additional frosting to it.  It was a three layer cake stacked on another three layer cake.  
That's 6 layers that fell apart big time.  Tasted good, but it looked more like a finger food clump than a nice birthday cake on the plates.  It looked kind of like a box on a cake stand.  I probably should have placed a red ribbon on it.  My husband is very sensitive about his birthday falling on Christmas Eve.  When growing up, his brothers got to celebrate their birthdays without it being part of a major holiday.  Hubby didn't.  It's a childhood hurt that needs attention.  A boo boo that needs kissed.  Smooch Hunny.  You're healed.  Remember that you weren't completely ignored through the years.  We can celebrate your half year birthday in June.  

As of tonight...there are still 
plastic plates, cups and napkins to use for a few more meals.  Glad about that.  We had plenty.

Christmas morning came early for the Grandchildren.

Joyfully watched them see what Santa brought them and play with their new toys.

Christmas Night ended with us singing Christmas songs.

I couldn't find my Guest Book to have everyone sign it. 


Sooooooo...we passed a Christmas Card around 
to sign and I will hold this in my possession hopefully for years to come.


It's neat to see the signatures of my loved ones. 
Even 14 month old Grandson held the pen and left his mark.
