a day to remember

You're sweeeet just like this cake!
A sweet day to celebrate.
You turning 32.

Love you,
Mom

the violent take it by force

Just opened the family room window and the fresh air rushed in with waves of musical chirps from the birds.  A gentle breeze is blowing through the tree leaves and I can see grey skies this morning.  I just want to stay here for a while.

Laundry is in, coffee is on and Lil Miss hasn't started her day yet as I type on this new toy of mine.  Still learning how to operate this wonderful gift.  A new laptop that was a mother's day gift to me from my family.  I'm slow at learning new things, but once I catch on I gather speed.

With the presidential election in the forecast, my mood has changed a tad.  The moral decline of the norm is taking a toll on me as of late.  Moral decline.  What a sad turn of events.  Grievous.

I watched some actual 18oos footage of San Francisco and England....found it to be extremely interesting.  No matter what economic level the people were they took pride in their appearance.  Men, women and children alike all had hats on their heads and there were no worn out jeans to be found.

Women were covered and looked like proper Ladies.  There were no bare breast exposed when going to market.  Today, all I have to do to see skin is go to Walmarts.  Ripped t-shirts and bluejeans with the underwear hanging out are the norm.  Baseball caps on.  The hair isn't even combed.  Tattoos are mistaken for clothing.

I'd like to dress up in some Victorian or Edwardian Ladies clothing with a big brimmed hat on and stroll through the Grocery Store in character and pretend this is how I dress everyday.

The Bank Teller had no objections to wearing a blouse where I can see her breast.  If I were a man I would get in trouble telling her that her clothing is offensive.  Sexual harrassment.  Or would I?  Who hired her anyways?  A man?  I suppose I ought to call the President of the Bank or write a letter about so much skin showing.  Am I getting my monies worth here or what?  A real bargain, I tell ya.

I talked to the Manager of a Texas Family Grocery Store about the magazines he was selling once upon a time.  He told me he didn't have any say so over what was put out.  I beg to differ with you.  No control?  Right.....duh.  Just go elsewhere?  What if that is the only store there is?

If I showed up in a Carry Nation outfit carrying  a hatchet do you suppose I'd get arrested?  Maybe not, but if I started tearing the magazine racks up.....the law would be called in.

DEANNA GOES TO JAIL.
Local woman was arrested today after the Authorities arrested her for Public disturbance in the local Grocery Store.  Eight people tackled her to the floor and held her down until Law Enforcement Officers arrived to deal with this disturbance.  She was swinging a hatchet and yelling at the top of her lungs that everyone was going to Hell.  There is no word as of yet what she will be charged with as this paper goes to print or our paper tweets about it.

I'm not usually a violent person...but the violent take it by force.

home happenings

Home Happenings
Spring is in full swing with temps rising to encourage Summer.  Spring has been 6 weeks earlier than usual so Summer is early.  The wheat is ready to harvest.  It seems to have happened over night.  The fields are golden in color.  Beautiful.  I'd love to go sit on the hood of my car that's parked on an old country road and listen to the sound wheat makes swaying in the wind.

Lil Miss graduated from her pre-school and danced the night away at a recital all in one week.  Delighted to be able to attend and see for myself the big events.  We have continued to tidy up around here in hopes of making our home a homier place.  Sweet Husband made a flower bed at the base of one of our sideyard trees and filled it with  48 irises.  We don't have a clue what color the blooms will be until next Spring.  It will be an amuzing surprise to see how they turn out.  Understanding that the first year Irises are relocated to a new place that they usually don't bloom very well, we will wait and see how this turns out.

It's mid-week and Lil Miss will be having some dental work done....her first cavity will be drilled out and a filling in its place.  Not looking forward to her reaction to the shot she will receive for deadening.

I'd better sip some more coffee,
~d~

Hello, I'm back.  Dental appointment went really well.  Lil Miss wasn't given a shot to deaden...didn't need to go as deep.  Relieved.  Went to the Library and the Park afterwards.  Then Daughter took us out for Supper.  Had a Taco Salad.  Really good.  When it came time to watch Downton Abbey......we couldn't find the controller.

Like having withdrawal.  Hunted for an hour.  We couldn't find it and have to have it to turn the DVD player on to go to the part of the disc needed.  Not sure where it crawled off to.

It's raining outside really hard....so I sat outside on the porch and listened to it pour.

I have got to go get our auto tag this week.  This should be a quick act and have got to make the best of my time.  The temperatures should be cooler like in the 60s.  Will not need to water the lawn or plants tomorrow we had a lovely rain this evening.  Nice.

Our Day Lilies are about to bloom.  We need to thin these out this year and air out the flowerbed.  More beauty to view.  My Geraniums are about to open up with flowers.  I was beginning to wonder if they were going to make it because after I transplanted them into the new urns, they went into shock and began to look awful.  Patience required.

Kind of like people after you relocate, you may take a turn for the worst and look awful......patience required.  After a move...you have to turn loose of what you had and forge ahead to something new.  Bloom where you're planted?  True.

Now it's time for me to paint my fingernails a soft pink.....Sally Hansen's Together Forever!
Hope your happenings are happy.
God bless,
~d~

quote...unquote

Emily Post (1873–1960).
Etiquette. 1922.

The Personality of a House

“The personality of a house is indefinable, but there never lived a lady of great cultivation and charm whose home, whether a palace, a farm-cottage or a tiny apartment, did not reflect the charm of its owner."

I'm off to a quiet start this morning.  I came across this Emily Post Quote that I had scribbled down in one of my numerous notebooks and wanted to check it out to see if it was indeed one of her quotes.  According to cyberspace.....it is.  So, I'm sharing it.  I agree with it.

If you were to stick your head into my home today....you'd see that the charm of my home is in need of some thinning out of messes and getting better organized.  My home truly is reflecting my personality these days.  Scattered brained and in need of a vacation.  I will be thankful when the messes are rightfully taken care of and my home mirrors a Lady that finally got caught up!

Pleasant thoughts and God bless,
~d~

home haven happy meal

~Taco Salad~

Smiles...we're happy.
Our Taco Salad lays on a bed of salad greens like mixed spring greens,
lettuce or spinach leaves topped with browned seasoned ground beef or ground turkey,
black beans, salsa, shredded cheese and taco chips.

Some corn in this would work.
Grins,

Maytag On Wheels

Eldest of 10 children to German immigrants, Frederick Louis Maytag I (Maitag) came into this world on July 14, 1857 in Newton, Iowa.  Traveling in covered wagon with his family at 10, they settled near Laurel, Iowa.  Attended North Central College in Naperville, Illinois 1872-73.  Married Dena Bergman and had 4 children together.  Frederick died from heart ailments leaving $10 million behind.

Also known as FL Maytag he founded Maytag Company, which eventaully became the Maytag Corporation that was aquired by Whirlpool Corporation 2005.

I use to always do my laundry on Mondays.....now I do it as needed or have to.  Might be a load a day or eight.

Doesn't the Lady look LOVELY in her high heels and apron?  Where are her pearls?

Don't you always do the laundry wearing your pearls?  I don't.
Gosh...why not?

Have a pleasant day and
may the wash be with you!

GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS

GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS has long been one of my favorite songs.

Sunday afternoon May 27, 2012 while I was surfin' I read that this song was composed by William Runyan who graduated from Marion High School in Marion, Kansas where my father grew up, met my mom, I got married there and two of my children graduated from Marion High School.

Great Is Thy Faithfulness is a popular Christian hymn written by Thomas Chisholm (1866–1960) with music composed by William M. Runyan (1870–1957) in Baldwin, Kansas, USA.

History

Thomas O. Chisolm wrote the poem in 1923 about God's faithfulness over his lifetime. Chisolm sent the song (POEM) to William Runyan in Kansas, who was affiliated with the Moody Bible Institute and Hope Publishing Company. Runyan set the poem to music, and it was published that same year by Hope Publishing Company and became popular among church groups.[1] The Biblical lyrics reference Lamentations 3:22. The song was exposed to wide audiences after becoming popular with Dr. William Henry Houghton of the Moody Bible Institute and Billy Graham who played the song frequently on his international crusades.[2]

Lyrics

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with thee,
Thou changest not, Thy compassions they fail not,
As thou has been, thou forever will be.

Refrain:
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see All I have needed Thy hand hath provided Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above;
Join with all nature in manifold witness,
To thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.

Refrain:
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see All I have needed Thy hand hath provided Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own great presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today, and bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside.

Refrain:
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see All I have needed Thy hand hath provided Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord unto me!

Do you know God's Faithfulness?
Have a pleasant day and know that you are loved and greatly valued.

DECORATING ON THE PRAIRIE: Cleaning

Hello from HOME HAVEN.
Thank you for stopping by for a visit.
I pray that you are well.
I am at HOME cleaning away.

Although these pics are from last Autumn,
I wanted to show how some of the windows in Home Haven
tilt for easier cleaning.  Sure do like this.

Today, I'm still a cleanin'....just in the Kitchen.
It needed it.
Homekeeping/Housekeeping on the Prairie is necessary
in order to make a home look her BEST.
Having my home in order and ooooh so clean,
makes me feel right at home..... truthfully my home isn't clean all the time.
I'd rather she be clean than dirty, but have to stay balanced and know that a home well lived in is well lived in.
That usually means messes.

Having my home orderly and clean
is the best way to decorate this
Old Stone House on the Prairie.

BUT having the right attitude sure does help the nerves
and sets a decent mood.
So clean away and still have time to play.

Window treatments came down.  A personal goal accomplished....Windows and the Window Treatments were washed.

This is the first time I tilted the windows all by myself and cleaned the Parlour windows by myself.  All went well.

No mishaps.

Mission imPOSSIBLE.
~d~

Working and praying with my hands
is part of my life.

CONFESSION

Have you ever been sippin' coffee and sittin'
and PHYSICALLY feel healing taking place in your soul?

Like a huge burden being lifted right off your shoulders and out of your body?
You physically feel a peace filling your body?

God is real and so is His healing
that He does in a majestic way.

Confession spoken to God in all honesty does a body good.

i will lean on you, Lord

i will lean on you, Lord
and when you tell me to lay something down
i will lean on you, Lord

you know my heart and you know what is on my mind
you know me so completely

my heart has ached for some time
you heard my cries

i will lean on you, Lord
i will honor what you told me
i will lay this burden down

flowers for me lady

Beloved, Welcome to Home Haven.
Are you a flower lover?

The older I get...the more I enjoy flowers.
They add so much more to life than without.

Giving flowers has been a long tradition.
Any idea how that started or where it began?

The language of flowers, Floriography, came in handy.
In mid-1700s, the signifigance increased when the French and English,
while visiting Turkey,
discovered an entire language of flowers which gave meaning to different flower types.

From this the Victorian culture created a meaning for every characteristic of a flower.
Victorians living in an era when people did not believe in expressing emotions,
found the language of flowers to be an acceptable form of expressions.

RED conveys passion and love.
PINK (perfect for any occasion) signifies grace and happiness.
ORANGE demonstrates excitement and enthusiasm.
YELLOW represents friendship and joy.
PURPLE shows pride and joy.
WHITE is for purity and innocence.
BLACK is for obsession.
GREEN for good luck, showing stability and harmony.
BLUE flowers represent confidence and security.

Birth months as well:
January carnations
February iris
March daffodil
April daisies
May lilies
June roses
July delphiniums
August gladiola
September asters
October marigolds
November chrysanthemums
December poinsettas

Sweet Blessings to you
and may you always have fresh flowers in the vase!

Home Haven

Home Haven
is our place to call our earthly home.
I'm glad we have her.

~d~

in what way

in what way should i walk
in what way shall i talk and think and believe?

how will i fill my mind?

it is rare these days that i get quiet time to myself
the spring weather seldom comes through an open window as i sit and think and pray and believe

awe but when it does the mood of my soul gets revived and i take a deep breath and sigh that life is good.

though the laundry is piled high, dust awaits me...i am drinking in the quiet of the afternoon today
birds are chirping and singing away
the sky is blue with clouds and the temps are lovely

God, I desire to feel this way all the time.

cheerios and crayons

Felt really great to be able to vaccuum up the yuck from under the sofa cushions.
Wondered what would be resting there when the cushions were lifted.
This time there were cheerios and crayons.

It is amazing how quickly this stuff grows in the dark.

Company came over Sunday evening and I wanted the Family room to look like humans lived here.
I have struggled to tidy the house.  I am praying that in mid August when Lil Miss goes to school that with my free time during the day that some of my old habits will return.

Praying for stamina and strength to get this 'ole house looking better.  Being better.  Dust grows here for sure.

Our friend Deb brought us irises that she had dug up.  Can't wait to get these in the ground and see what colors they will be next Spring!  When they bloom it will be like waking to Christmas morning to see what Santa brought.  As the buds form and open up.....i will take pictures.  We'll be planting them around the bases of some trees.  Excited in my old age.  It is so nice to be excited about something in life!!!  Looking forward to this treat.

Though she was wearing her crash helmet, Lil Miss took a spill and tore up her knee.  As she was crying, she said she was never going to ride her bike again.......she will.  Her first bad spill left her knee scraped and bloody.

We had brownies, the children played and we looked at the Sunday eclipse in a shoebox.

Last week I shopped Salvation Army and bought the nestest book for 40 cents.

MINIATURE ROOMS
THE THORNE ROOMS AT THE ART INSTITUTE OF CHICAGO.

Mrs. James Ward Thorne's miniature rooms are truly State of the Art.  Through photographs of these rooms, I admire their superb quality of displaying what an actual room may have looked like in days gone by.  I am amazed at how lovely these little rooms are. Amazed.

Mrs. Thorne had collected miniatures and eventually had miniature rooms created to put her collections in.  It was a team effort that would go on display for the world to see.  It's easy to be transformed into a different time era through these visual examples.

Gathering ideas on how to decorate my own home.  Making a room lovelier to live in and enjoy can be a labor of love....I know cleaning is a labor of love!  Taking the emotion out of cleaning makes me a happier person and when I actually get it done.....I do feel better.

It calms my nerves to see a room tidy.  It's like EYE CANDY to me.

I ended the night by watching Part One of Season Two: Downton Abbey.  Someday.....someday, I'd like to see in person actual castles and estates so large that it takes a crew to operate.  This will be a dream come true.

Do you still have dreams that you'd like to see come to fruition?

At times I  have been afraid to dream or think about these dreams for they seem like they will never happen.  So why bother.  I have been surprised before when God allows a dream to come true.  It's truly wonderful when it happens!  So I will dream and have thoughts of things to come.

Jeremiah 33:3 states in the old testament, Call unto me and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you know not.

Lord, I know this to be true.  You have so much you will show us if we call on you.  You have shown me wonderful things.  Things that are far more wonderful than eating brownies.

Jim Bakker PTL Club with Colonel Sanders 1979

Colonel Sanders asked, "CAN SOMEONE GET AN EXPERIENCE WITH GOD NOW THAT HE WILL KNOW THAT HE WOULD GO TO HEAVEN IF HE WERE TO DIE?"
The Pastor said, "Yes."

Colonel asked the Pastor, "CAN YOU GET AN EXPERIENCE WITH GOD THAT WOULD HELP YOU TO STOP CURSING?"  Pastor said, "Yes."

Hollyhocks

~Hollyhocks~

Hollyhocks are in bloom.....these are growing beside a business building.  Like the colors.
Ours are starting to bloom out, but not sure they will flower like these.  Shall see.
Will have to read about what to do to prevent the leaves from getting eaten alive by bugs.

Have a pleasant day,

home happenings with steam engine

~HOME HAPPENINGS~

Howdy from the Prairie!
As I type I'm sitting in my red and black plaid housecoat
with the window wide open
to where I can hear the bird's chirping
with the humming of the neighbor's lawn mower grooming his lawn.
Thinking about my mother's day I was blessed with.

Lil Miss isn't up yet and I'm sipping Folgers Coffee.
The best part of waking up is Folgers in your cup.......on somedays I would agree.

The past couple of weeks has been something else.
The Spring Weather has been about as perfect as can be
with mild temps in the low 70's,
blue skies and sunshine.
Breathing it all in and thinking this is our SPRING
before the heat wave strikes Kansas.

Watched a great 2000 family movie
"My Dog Skip" starring Frankie Muniz, Kevin Bacon, Diane Lane and of course the Jack Russell Terrior, Enzo.
Set in the 1940's and based on autobiographical book by Willie Morris, 9 year old Willie grows up in Yazoo, Mississippi as the son of a Spanish Civil War Veteran Jack and Homemaker Ellen.
Willie's adventures with Skip ends as Willie leaves for Oxford University
with Skip remaining behind with Willie's Parents.
Skip dies and is buried under the elm tree.
Closing line narrated by grown up Willie,
"That wasn't totally true.  For he really laid buried in my heart."
I liked this film and would watch again.
The costuming and interior decorating are true to the era.

Coming through our Prairie Town was
Union Pacific 844 Steam Engine.

Ticket Agent and Conductor, Wayne Hansen was kind enough to allow a picture with Lil Miss.
He looked well defined in his uniform and I knew he was a somebody with the clothing he was wearing.  He stood out.
Made for an interesting Day!

Onto buying a well deserved and needed new Spring handbag from Florence Adams in a 1882 Historical Building in Saint Marys, Kansas.  Came away a HaPpY Shopper.  Shopping at Florence Adams is a delight.  Something else for there to be such a stylish store in this part of the world on the prairie.

Saturday:  Shoppers Gone Wild at Wamego's  City Wide Garage Sale.  Bought some OLD dishes.
Sunday: A day of rest.  Hubby's Uncle Willie died in his sleep.  Shopped in Topeka.
Monday: Union Pacific 844 stops on the Prairie.  Back to Topeka.
Tuesday:  Wamego Library visit, Manhattan Lunch with Hubby and I took a tumble at the KSU Gardens.  Grass stained my best pair of blue jeans.  Tuesday night trip to Saint Marys, Kansas. Bought a fancy coffee, a new handbag and had a great time with Daughter and Grand.
Wednesday: Wore a denim skirt and felt like a LADY.
Health Assessment and sprained my ankle shopping.
Sound accident prone.
Topeka Time with Hubby.  Bought some apples.
Thursday: Wore my denim skirt again and felt like a Lady.
Up to my neck in Paperwork.
Friday: Getting rested up for the week-end.
On Laundry Duty.  Date with Hubby.
Saturday:  Checking out an Auction.
Sunday:  HAPPY MOTHER's DAY!
another week happened....time flies.
Will post about later.

A beautiful Kansas Sky.
Nothing like it.

After a busy week out and about, I like being in slow-mo on Friday mornings.
Sippin Coffee and Bloggin' Time helps to refresh me and gain strength for the week-end.

Ending today's post with this,
God keeps His promises.

People don't always, but God is faithful.
You can bank on it.
May you have a great day!

This is a rare pose from a very active little guy.
Love this child!

I would appreciate prayer concerning my family.
On March 1st, my son was asked for a separation from his wife.

DECORATING

I knew a very frugal Lady named Edith that shared with me a excellent guideline for decorating. She said with ease, "If your room has clean ceilings, floors, and walls, and the windows have nice curtains, you'll have an attractive room."

John 3:7

Marvel not that I said unto thee,

Ye must be born again.

I shall not die,
but live, and declare

PROVERBS 24:3-4

through
knowledge

its rooms are filled with rare

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS

FUN FACTS FOR CHANDYS
SELECTING THE CORRECT SIZE CHANDY TO USE IN A ROOM MADE EASY. FORMULA MEASUREMENTS: Measure the room's height and width. Add together the numbers. Example: 8' x 10' room is 8 plus 10= 18" Use a 18" wide chandy. OR Take width of room calculating 2" for every foot. Example: 15' wide room. Take 15 times 2 = 30. Room needs 30" wide chandy. Standard distance between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table is 30 inches. When hanging the chandelier, make sure to hang it at the proper height. The bottom of a chandelier over a dining table or kitchen island should hang 30 to 32 inches above the top of the table or island. Most rooms call for at least 7 feet of space between the bottom of the chandelier and the floor.

WISHES

NO MATTER HOW BADLY YOU WISH with all your might that the something devastating that happened in your life hadn't happened and want so badly to go back in time to prevent it from happening...it isn't humanly possible to do this. You can't change the fact that it happened. IT DID. But JESUS can change the MEANING of what happened to you and give you PEACE. He can show you the way in which you are to go. God richly BLESS you. ~Deanna
