Last night I listened to opera with the help of you tube. There a few arias that I can recognize and really like. So many talented singers through the years. MARIA CALLAS was extremely popular in her day.
I was aware of her affair she had with Onassis and how broken hearted she was when he left her to marry Jackie Kennedy.
As a child, I remember when Jackie married Onassis and thought how odd it appeared. To me she would remain First Lady forever not Mrs. Onassis.
Listening to some recordings of Maria Callas, I've compared her to other singers that I like better, but then that's me. Recording has become more sophisticated over the years. Not so grainy sounding. I was stunned to find out she was once heavy. She denied using tape worms to reduce in size, but used low calorie meals of chicken and salads. She was a sensation.
