AS I LOOK OUT THE KITCHEN WINDOW, I can see the flowerbed where the orange Day Lilies are. They are fading as they have hit their zenith. Closing up shop as some would say. I really think I need to divide the bulbs and locate some of the lilies elsewhere in our small yard. Back behind the garage comes to mind. A few beside the front porch would be nice, but I'm not sure it's sunny enough for them. I'll give it a try anyways.
I need so badly to trim the Lilac Bush that's in the side yard. Dead branches hide amongst the greenery of leaves. Tomorrow, I WILL trim a few branches away. Just a few. The bush is developing into a tree which is fine with me. TODAY, I have other plans and won't be able to give it the attention needed. A well groomed and tended GARDEN is a beautiful thing to walk in.
First, we must get better settled before working diligently on shaping up the yard and flowerbeds. We are not in maintenance mode yet. The day shall come, surely.
YESTERDAY WENT WELL. I didn't go to town, but stayed in the neighborhood. Hubby drove me to the track and I walked a mile very slowly. It was a tad bit difficult this time as it has been a few weeks since I walked due to flu and being on the go. I was so slow. With a beet read face and sweaty body, after I finished I proudly said, "I did it." This time it felt like an accomplishment. As I walked around the track, I took the time to visit with God about LIFE. I thought about the young athletes that participate in track and field events. The runners are incredibly fast. Even those that come in last are athletes.
Cooled off by riding in the car with the window rolled down.
Before we went to the track, we picked up lots of oak leaves that had blown into the yard by the strong winds from a few days ago. Believe there was rotation in the clouds which means a tornado was in the sky above our community.
These oak leaves came from somewhere we did not know as there are no oak trees near by. The tree trash was picked up and bagged. We'd take it to the landfill later after I walked as well as to go to the storage unit to check on things, pick up the mail at the Post Office and go to the Dollar Store to buy a birthday card for a friend. As I picked up the leaves I was reminded that we need to work really hard at getting our lawn and yard beautified. It will go on the TO DO LIST in the FALL.
Right now, the storage units need emptied. I believe if I worked a week on one of the units, I could have it emptied in that week. It's just finding the time to do this that delays the project. First comes the interior of the COTTAGE. Looking about the unit was not so overwhelming this time. I could see with a clearer attitude that this is not the end of the world. I can manage to deal with it. If I trim some of the Lilac Bush's branches, load them in PETE, our PT Cruiser that we use like a truck, drive the tree trash to the landfill then buzz by the storage unit to work, I could get quite a bit done in a couple of hours and that would lift my spirits.
The Living room is looking great. PTL. I worked on it yesterday. I'll run the vacuum this morning and dust in the next few days. A DEEP CLEAN needs to happen.
We watched a DECENT movie last night. The 2016 movie RACE.
acknowledge him. It would be back in the STATES that Jesse was completely ignored by President Roosevelt who did not so much as send a telegram. All white athletes were acknowledged from the White House. The 18 Black Athletes were not acknowledged. PAUSE. No word of achievement for representing the United States of AMERICA. Makes me ill.
In a time when Hitler was headstrong about developing a superior race, Jesse Owens was a far superior athlete than what Hitler had to offer at the Olympic Games. Hitler believed Jews and Blacks were vermin that amounted to nothing. How could a Blackman possibly be superior to his Hitler's people? God made all people. Hitler didn't seem to believe this.
So, Owens was not completely snubbed by Hitler. However, Owens did feel that he had been snubbed by someone: U.S. Pres. Franklin D. Roosevelt. A month after the Olympic Games, Owens told a crowd, “Hitler didn’t snub me—it was [Roosevelt] who snubbed me. The president didn’t even send me a telegram.” Roosevelt never publicly acknowledged Owens’s triumphs—or the triumphs of any of the 18 African Americans who competed at the Berlin Olympics. Only white Olympians were invited to the White House in 1936. A number of explanations have been offered for the president’s actions. Most likely, Roosevelt did not want to risk losing the support of Southern Democrats by appearing overly soft on the race issue. The Black Olympians who competed in Berlin were not recognized by the White House until 2016, when Pres. Barack Obama invited the athletes’ relatives to an event in celebration of their lives and accomplishments.
Thinking about WHITE SUPREMACY. Aryan groups. KKK. There are Aryan groups to this day. When one begins to recognize the hand gestures given, it's disturbing to me what is really going on in our country. Our present day political figures should not be ignored.
